I'm looking to grab a book or two today so, obviously, I seek GAF's eternal wisdom in such matters.

GIMME YER RECOMMENDATIONS!

I'm thinking of heading to the bookstore today to buy Ray Kurzweil's new book, The Singularity is Near. His predictions concerning technological advancements seem crazy as hell, but he's a really smart guy, and I liked reading The Age of Spiritual Machines (even if, as I said, I thought the predictions were crazy as hell).

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

What are you looking for, exactly?

Fiction or non-fiction. Preferrably not 'unrealistic' fantasy. Even 'essay'-like discussions on certain themes would be welcomed.

For nonfiction you can't go wrong with Malcom Gladwell's "The Tipping Point," or "Blink."

Edit: I had this thread loaded hours ago, from before the above reply was posted, but I only just now replied. Anyway, yes they're both excellent, althoug Blink less so.

I've read about that book for quite a while, so I'll probably pick it up as well.

Actually I'm probably picking up 2 more of the recommendations in here.

I hope I like them. Thanks again.

I'll try them out then.

The last book I read was:

catch22.gif

and it was pretty much the best damn book I've ever read. Hilarious beyond hilarious, yet simultaneously dark and thought-provoking.

Right now I'm reading:

Thetindrum.jpg

and it's pretty good, despite being a fairly intimidating book (size, subject, etc.)
