Borderlands 2: Gaige the Mechromancer release date confirmed for Oct 16

That'll be a third for me most likely. I'll either have the game beat twice as Axton (1 for NG+) or once with him and once with Zero.

Then again by Oct 16 I'll probably be in the middle of Dishonored and Xcom. This character better be worth the wait.

I think it's pre-order anywhere, IIRC the only retailer-specific thing is a gun and arena from Gamestop. Anyway, they were very public about how they didn't even start working on the character until AFTER the game went Gold, and if you don't want to pre-order the game you can buy it just like regular DLC.
 
That's much sooner that I was anticipating. I expected her to be my third maxed out character, but now it looks like she'll be #2. #3 if the game is as addictive as the first.

from what I understand she isn't in the game at all and they started making her after it went gold, now if that's actually the case I don't know but that's what we were told.
 
So hyped of Gaige.

When I saw her concept art + class name for the first time only last month as I passed by a GameStop, I was sold on the game even further (already wanted Borderlands 2, but didn't intend to pre-order it until that happened).
 
So, if preordered from NEWEGG do I get this? And what about GMG?

If yes, how would I go about knowing I get it? Do I get a code or something?
 
I pre-ordered for PC on their website which is in Steam form, but I don't remember seeing anything about getting free DLC.
 
I thought this was a launch thing?

Oh well, I am sure Borderlands 2 is more than substantial without her. Will provide a good reason to play through again.

in one of the videos they showed an early version of the character with no textures and a half completed skill tree. This leads me to believe that the character was not worked on until at least the majority of the game was completed.
 
Just preordered the game. I figured $10 Amazon credit, plus all of these pre-order bonuses, I might as well. I wasn't going to get the game, but I did really like the first Borderlands. It just doesn't seem like this one is different enough, but I have't followed it that much, so maybe I'm wrong.
 
I assume those are prosthetic limbs since earlier pics show her with mechanical arms and legs. Either way, I look forward to girlfriend mode co-op with my wife.

One of the videos with Randy Pitchford shows a really early build of her with three skilltrees (She had no textures outside of her head and most of the skills were blank or labeled "Test") and Randy was talking about how they were going in a newbie friendly route with one tree, a tree focused on experienced Borderlands players, and an elemental tree.

Sounded like even he was unsure what, exactly, would make it in the final build, but that should help give you an idea of where they're going.

What I've seen of her confirms she has a prosthetic arm, like Helena Pierce. Would be crazy if Gaige was Helena's daughter or sister.
 
I am incredibly disappointed about this news of it only being from 3 retailers in the US. I put in a preorder with the MS store because of the MS Points they're giving, but not getting access to her for free or a few of the other things it offers is absolute bullshit and completely unacceptable. It should be for every preorder.

Very tempted to just cancel my preorder now and rent this from Gamefly. The only reason I had to buy it at all was getting preorder stuff!

Is this accurate? If I buy the game at Target new on release day I don't get the Mechromancer?

I checked their site, and it doesn't say that. It simply lists those stores as options to get the game from. Randy said in one of the numerous videos that simply buying the game new will get you access to Premiere Club, which gets you the Mechromancer.

Read this: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=134551 -- the only non-digital retailers in the US are those 3 mentioned. I know there is a Gearbox rep who posts here so maybe he can clarify.. but if that is indeed the case, I will probably cancel my preorder as a way of voting with my wallet that I don't appreciate these tactics.

Edit: Here is the pic they tweeted earlier today that confirms that it is only if you preorder and only if you do it from participating retailers.
