By far my favorite live-action song!

A new one is in the process of being made, this time I'm doing it myself.

Awesome, can't wait :D

She's 46

So pretty!

When i was 13 (I am 27 now), My love for spicegirls and sailor moon was incredible.

The fact that I am male, and hyped as FUCK for this, scares me

I know nothing of the musicals so that will be left blank in the community thread, someone will have to contribute that information to me.

C'est la vie is autotuned.
I've been listening to the songs on YT and forget what I said about Ayaka having the worst voice. Miyuu takes the cake. Her songs are VILE. It's like listening to a chipmunk.

I had forgotten that they made a special Minako CD too. I used to love "I'm Here".

PGSM vocal songs really don't live up to the standard the anime set at all. Only Sakura Fubuki and Promise are really worth anything.

Even the BGM is pretty mediocre outside a handful of bright spots.

Speaking of music, if you haven't heard Sailor Moon R Symphonic Poem before, you should.

Half way done with my new community rewrite, it'll probably be made either late Saturday or early Sunday.
Topics to cover:
Manga, including Sailor V
Anime (all 200 eps)
PGSM
Drama albums
Musicals
Music
Games

Also, given how many people have already seen some of the dub but not much else, the focus should be on expanding exposure. SM has been an abused property for nearly two decades now. It doesn't deserve any more abuse.

Speaking of which, swipes at SMC are optional.

As long as they are scale, my SHFiguarts will make that happen.

Speaking of which...I've been thinking about buying those. I haven't bought a figure of any sort in...8 years or more? But I'm so tempted.

Is it worth it? I can get them cheaper than usual since I get a lot of Amazon gift cards.

SMC, Sailor Moon Channel? Just wondering what did they do that was bad?

My community thread is mostly revolved around the Japanese anime, but the adaptations (original manga, dubs, PGSM, etc.) will be mentioned. You'll have to cover the last 4 things listed, as I don't know much on them.

Depends of the figure but so far the Sailor Moon, AkibaRangers and MMPR figures have all been worth it.
The Figuarts Sailor Moon figures is the only Sailor Moon merchandise that wowed me enough to buy it though.

I have the Mercury one. It's pretty cool but not amazing.

Hmm...I see. Well, I can get one for like...$10~15 or so right now if I wanted. I've really wanted Sailor Moon action figures for years now. All of those dolls and stuff never looked good to me. I might go ahead and order one soon as a Christmas present to myself.

Does this have any promo art? I wanna see what the artstyle in this looks like.

Nothing's been released on the show at all yet...even though it's supposedly out next month. :/

I've played most, if not all, of the video games, so I might be able to help. I only managed to finish the arcade game and the MegaDrive one, though. I can't seem to beat the rest...and I suck at Another Story and the puzzle games.

The only ones I own at the moment are the first Super Famicom game and the MegaDrive game. I'm gonna try and get Sailor Moon R, S, and SuperS for the Super Famicom soon. I bid on R a few months ago, and I lost. I haven't found a decently priced auction since, at least when I actually had the money to bid on it, anyway.

definitely worth it then, I paid over $30 each for all of mine.

Took the R2 DVDs, squashed the video detail, ruined the color by pushing the saturation to 11, and put 3-line hardsub karaoke with effects on Moon Revenge during the film.

What is Elly?

By the way, the real tragedy is that SMC's hackjob is still the best an English speaker can do. Funimation or somebody legit needs to get the rights from Toei already.

The woman behind Miss Dream, seems to piss a lot of people off.
Oh, that. Yeah, way to wait until just before the Kodansha USA release only to catch that last bit of spotlight before it was yanked from you.

See what I mean? Abused, by both companies and fans of the worst sort. Pioneer excluded.

Surely somebody will get the rights if and when there is a Blu-ray release. :|

Yeah a lot of people seem to dislike the Kodansha USA release, but I'm just glad there is an official release. Not if only the anime got one...

At least its unflipped, I remember finding a flipped SM manga at a store years back.

That'd be the old Mixx/Tokyopop release. That's been out of print since 2005. I occasionally try and find them at flea markets and thrift stores for collectors purposes, but no luck yet. The only thing I've found so far is a Sailor Saturn doll, but I never bought it. It's still probably there, though.

I don't know anything about Sailor Moon Center.

SMC is basically the source for Sailor Moon fansubs.
Anime version, not PGSM. PGSM is TV Nihon.

They seem like generally nice people, selfless and hardworking, and are well liked in the community. But they turned up the brightness and contrast in their releases, and shifted the color balance around with no frame of reference. They just went for what "felt better" on laptop screens and wanted to make the show resemble newer, more colorful anime. Also, they regarded film grain (as well as any detail beyond it) as "dirt" and cleaned it away. Neither one is what I would call a "major" problem, but it got them into some fights with purists. I don't know Japanese and have no opinion on their translations.

Ahh, what is your opinion on Elly? I was reading some stuff on tumblr, and seemed controversial.
Miss Dream is unfortunately the source for Sailor Moon scans and scanlations. Her arrival was hailed by all as one of the greatest things to happen to the Sailor Moon fandom, but one by one she has burned essentially all players in the fandom. She seemingly aspires to replace all those in the fandom who defy her with herself. Once someone pisses her off, she starts stepping on their turf, duplicating their work, even though she has plenty to do elsewhere.

Her credentials are allegedly false. She and her partner showed off Japanese degrees that allege that they're qualified even to teach classical Japanese literature to Japanese people, but their degrees are apparently photoshops. She can seemingly translate, but she says that (in her localization wisdom) it is correct to run her translations through a filter of "Americanization" that destroys any evidence of her translation ability. She is opposed to Kodansha USA's literal-leaning translation of the manga, even though that is Kodansha USA's preferred style, and even though it offers a unique differentiation for those of us who had to suffer through Mixx.

IIRC, she took offense with (as a random example) the line "I feel power flowing through me" (which by all accounts was a completely accurate and contextually appropriate line), and felt the need to change it to "I feel wet" (wet as in, sexually aroused, even though that is not accurate and has no basis in the scene). And that was a line she used to try and prove how right she is.

I know for a fact that at least one member of her team is a credit-stealer of other people's work.

She fansubbed the entire series after she quit (which was after she broke the previous scanslator's record by just one chapter), in a blatant attempt to steal Kodansha USA's thunder. She refused to take down her speedsubs when a legal option emerged. She engages in day-one piracy of Kodansha USA's work (although she tried and failed to hide that one). She hosts scans of the Mixx version in direct defiance of the Kodansha USA version. She has outright stated that she doesn't give a shit about Kodansha USA's rights.

Miss Dream was never the place for anything. Alternatives existed before as hers wasn't even half done until right before Kodansha as stated, and they exist now.

Kurozuki only did text translations, which was less convenient than scanlations, and he asked nicely for people not to attach his work to scans.

Aside from the Sailor V scanlation and the Mixx scans, that's all I ever knew about.

And the Black Dog stuff...

I mean, the Mixx versions were annoying with all the dub names and terminology, but they were serviceable. Miss Dream wasn't even a thing until she suddenly decided to finish after leaving it as a false start for ages.

Edit: Ok, found the passage mentioned earlier:

(PGSM release Vol 7, Act 32, Page 74)
ウラヌスは
男でもあり
女でもある
どちらの性も
どちらの強さも
あわせもつ
戦士なのです
[Uranus is male as well as female. She's a soldier that encompasses both natures and both strengths.]

Yeah, Michiru isn't really talking about Haruka's sex there, though, but her nature as a person.

As much as I like being thorough, isn't that overkill for a community thread? That's a lot of work, especially obscure stuff like the musical and the countless games SM's inspired.

Also, I still have my Mixx issues, from start to Tokyopop.

It's not overdoing it when you don't waste space on other stuff! It's not like you have to do that much, just go over enough to get people started.

Character profiles are best left to thread discussion not OP content, not to mention that you'd have to cover multiple versions of each character anyway. It's better to get people to actually watch/read/whatever then discuss.
