Bravely Second sold 700k copies worldwide (official series twitter account)

I bought it, but ended up quitting the first game fairly early on. I can't wrap my head around the Brave/Default system (well, I can, I guess I just don't like it or it feels half-baked to me?). Which stinks because everything else about the game is just screaming for me to love it (okay, so mostly the job system stuff).

Perhaps I should give it another chance at some point.

More sales than I thought it would get. I loved the first one until the gimmick/twist and that really soured me on it so much that I didn't care for the second one. Hope Octopath is a lot better and does something else fresh for the genre.

I don't like RPGs so I didn't bother checking out Barvely Default, but I loved the Bravely Second demo so much that I decided to take the plunge and buy it digitally instead of Fire Emblem Fates. The combat mechanics were so fun, I didn't mind grinding and experimenting with different strategies. Filling in the bestiary was fun, and the settings are breathtakingly beautiful. Too bad the story and characters are the worst I've ever played. When the sniping cowlady and the chef appeared, I bailed out. No amount of cool mechanics and Edea could make me continue with the braindead story and annoying characters.

I hope they don't stop with the franchise as the actual gameplay is solid. They need to step up with the writing if they want people to be interested in it again.

Enjoyed the first game a lot, though by the end I definitely was feeling burnt out. Got Second because it was on sale, but I have yet to even start it. I'll do it someday, but who knows when considering I have half a dozen unfinished 3DS JRPGs.

These numbers tell me that there is interest in the franchise, but if it continues it needs to be a noticeable improvement for the next installment. Like the trailers alone should convince people it's a big step up from Second. I suppose that wouldn't be too difficult assuming it's on something other than the 3DS.

I didn't really like the repetition towards the end of the first game, though I enjoyed it overall. The second game felt twice as long as it needed to be, and I found myself skipping all of the cutscenes in the last 10 hours or so just so I could finish it.

That being said, I like the direction they're taking in terms of style and I'm looking forward to their new IP.

I have had the full game for a year but I'm trying to get through the rather boring demo first. Should I just skip it and go to the full game?

Kind of surprised to see people saying Second is better, but I only played like half of it. BD was already a game that was heavily carried by it's gameplay and little else (soundtrack is basically the only other good part of the package). Second felt worse in basically every regard. Worse music, writing is a wash at best (worse, but also takes itself less seriously), heavily reuses assets, and the gameplay feels weaker.

It's probably "better balanced" but a whole lot less fun to mix and match abilities because so many feel gimped outside their primary job. And having a bunch of different item-based classes with different items isn't any fun. Chemist/Salvemaker works because it's mostly using items you already have, and it's basically accepted that it's broken as hell. Trying to fix that just ends up hurting it in the end.

I still don't know if those results are good or not.

I honestly believed the game was a commercial flop, because I kept seeing it at firesale prices.

I have interest in the game, because I really liked Bravely Default. The sequel just wasn't a day one for me, and I was so entrenched in Fire Emblem Fates plus a few others in my backlog.

Yes.

You don't get much more than a few consumables from the demo anyway. And nothing much storywise.

Thank god for that. I've been feeling bad for neglecting the game that my brother got me for my birthday last year. It's the collectors edition too. The problem now is that he got me Pokemon Sun this year!

The art is also fantastic in both games, especially the backgrounds.

i think there are some Media Create regulars here. XD

How those the Bravely performance compare to other Square Enix new IP's? It's interesting considering that the time and resources invested in this series is relative small and Square looked a bit luke warm about giving it a more "honest" push.

I'm one of those that soured on the first game after the asinine twist so I never gave it a chance. I still don't know what they were thinking with that.

Same here. That twist was for sure the difference between me being hooked on a new series and likely never playing it again.

With budget and reuse Second had I bet it was enough to profit. (It's still the better of the two games despite this though)
