Brazil is making their own Grand Theft Auto - 171

Looks pretty good for a pre-alpha. Setting it in Brazil is reason enough to keep an eye on it since locale plays an outsized role in these kinds of games, as seen in GTA and Yakuza.

Why are brazilians so obsessed with trying to make the next GTA with 1/100000th of Rockstar's budget?

Wouldn't it be more sane to make a smaller 2D game or something? Like Val Hall A (or whatever the name is).

Serious question. I'm pretty sure that's not their first attempt at making a GTA clone.
2D games are literally a dime a dozen.

And Rockstar spends millions, but that also includes licensing expensive music or buying huge billboards for adverts.

If anything, we need more B-tier or A level productions in gaming so we can see more risks and innovation instead of the usual AAA giants dominating everything.

But how strong is the industry there to afford developing B-tier games? Where do they get money for all that? Their own pocket, patreon, investors?

Wouldn't it be more wise for them to make games that AAA companies just don't make anymore, instead of trying to face them head-on?
Indies already do that and look at where it gets them.

At least challenging a major AAA title is advertising in itself.

In terms of funding, I wouldn't be surprised if they're eligible for government grants.

There are so many criminals here that I wish the devs did a Punisher/Max Payne 3 based gane instead of GTA.

That said, considering its budget, it seems very well made. Props to the studio! It will sell like bread in Brazil.

We have other genres too. Some brazilian games:

I didn't know Blazing Chrome was made in Brazil. Great game. Horizon Chase is already a classic in my eyes. Many talented devs lately. Odallus looks really cool too.

The thing is that GTA is satirical for adults and "omg shoot that one, hit that other one lolololol" for kids.
This video looks like the second option.

Check Oniken also. It is from the same devs from Odallus and Blazing Chrome. Great NES style action platformer.

Yes, this is what I'm talking about. More of this, please.

Heh, will do. Give me 2 years and there will be at least one more Brazilian 2D beat em up for the list.

Looks great, although a little janky...

The final boss surely will be...
Two guys in a motorbike

Nah, it's...

Brazilian gamers will still complain about the price.

Doesn't look bad. Wishlisted it even though it currently doesn't support English.
