Breathe Deep. Cold Train.

I saw that vid too. Your body adapts if you keep doing it, and eventually it's nothing to you, as it is for Wim Hof and DunDunDunpachi DunDunDunpachi :messenger_sunglasses:

I've mastered cold showers, but haven't invested in an ice maker or deep freeze yet so I still have hat next step to look forward too. Ice is probably worlds better too...But the benefits just from cold showers are amazing. Simply amazing how you feel and how your systems feel more revitalized and even more efficient just because of a few minutes or so spent in cold water
I mean it should help with my muscle regeneration as well, so yeah I have to do it. No other way around. Thank you guys for bringing it back to my attention.

If you freeze a few used 1-gallon milk jugs (full of water), or freeze a few pitchers of water, etc the day before and then dump into the tub when it is time, that's a good way to get at least one ice bath per week without having to buy 10 - 20lbs of ice. A deep freeze makes this easier, however. I am certain the ice bath wouldn't faze you a bit.

I haven’t read a lot but is the “cold resistance” improving with the breathing exercises? Where’s the connection? Started doing the guided breathing exercises for a week now and somehow it feels like easier to be under the cold shower or is it just my imagination?

I think you’re right man, cold showers could be another necessary means to prepare / condition the body to fight off the SARS-CoV-2 virus and more efficiently. I think I’ve come across two doctors now listening in to different videos. I’ll try to get the exact videos and link them here next time I visit this thread

I’ve been keeping up with the cold showers. At least 4-6 times a week I’d say. I think it helps the body’s entire vasculature. And I 100% belief it improves mood. Just wanted to bump this thread because I think cold therapy and contrast therapy [hot, then cold in cycles] can expedite healing, recovery, improve mood, and I’m willing to bet as time goes on we’ll have a lot more studies supporting partaking in cold therapy to increase health and wellness. Can’t say it’s for everyone, but I think a lot of people can benefit from just taking a cold shower

A combination of things is happening:

- your cardiovascular system improves its ability to intake oxygen and feed it to the body. Brown fat eats oxygen like mad.
- your brain is learning to handle stress better, whether it's the stress of "suffocating" or "freezing to death".
- your brown fat is increasing, gradually, meaning you can heat yourself up faster

Thanks for the bump! I saw you carpet-bombing the thread with likes and I figured I would bump if no one else did.

Check this out, from May 2020:

Lots of concrete evidence there, ranging from weight loss assistance to immunity boost to brain boost.

I’ve noticed that as the colder weather rolls in the cold showers seem to move away from relief from heat into territory closer to numbness than instant gratification, but more like reverse kettle where you hit that low point and it’s almost blissful.

A wise man once said to me, “He who takes half a breath, lives half a life”

Not sure if that was his own words or a teacher of his taught him that, but I believe it. Simply taking the time to relax and focus on your breathing, and doing it correctly, it never feels like time wasted even though you’re only focusing on breathing. I feel more grounded when giving time to practice the breath. Whether it be during a training session and focusing on breathing technique during sets performed, meditation, during a walk. I think its of the utmost importance, the breath. Unfortunately though, I don’t recall any studies that support any of my thinking except for the ones that Wim Hof participated in. I think he was injected with a powerful neurotoxin of some sort, did his breathing technique and managed to avoid any ill effects. If breathing / oxygenating the body can improve the immune system to that degree, there is at least some proof to how powerful breathing exercises can be for us
