I'd like to Spielberg take some chances, stop worrying so much about huge box office and using huge names and cute kiddies.

The guy with his face shot off in the beginning of Pvt Ryan and the guys on the tank wiped out by the 50 calibur near the end of the film disagree with you.

I'm getting confused...is this thread about X3, Brett Ratner, Batman, Tim Burton, Superman, Wonder Woman, or Steven Spielberg?....

Ah fuck.

Ratner is like the Hollywood equivalent of Leguna. Absolute middling talent, and still around for no good reason.

Oh well. At least the first X-Men movie was good. :/

Second X-Men movie can eat me.

All you Wolverine fetishists can go rub one out sitting in the dark. Weak villain. Weak battles. Weak all over the god damn place.

Ian McKellan > Guy Who played Hannibal Lecter in a shitty adaptation of Red Dragon, but is now just a washed up fatass.

You're too far gone. You cannot be saved. I will do what I must.

Just to add an opinion, I think Family Man is a really, really great movie. Yes, it's no miracle of modern film-making or anything, but the story is neat, has good solid morals, and fine performances all around. It's not entirely Ratner's doing, though...he really gets a lot of help from all sides, regarding his film crew.

Also, I really like that Asian guy and Don cheadle in all his films. They must be buddies or something.

I really wish they'd just re-release the Burton original and call it JOKER. He's the best part of that damn movie.
Bolded for BOLD TRUTH!!

Burton's Batman gets too much damn praise. Maybe it's because Joel Schumacher sucked so much, it made the first two look good by comparison. The best part of that whole movie was Joker pulling out a 6 foot gun and shooting down the batwing.

Uh, the reason I like X2 more was because of McKellan's role in it. His character was even more interesting the second time around. And anyway, the first flick has just as much Wolverine in it wrapped around a whole bunch of Rogue....and a not very exciting Rogue at that.

I disagree, but it stems from a long time familiarity with the shitty comic book source material. You'll have to pardon me if I have no tolerance for the lame-ass villain cum ally schtick they shoe horned into this movie.

I much prefer the bitter rivalry between Xavier and Magneto in the original, to McKellan playing nice with the good guys.

Weaksauce baby, WEAKSAUCE!

But that's just it, he wasn't an ally. Was eliminating one problem (Striker) by using the Xboys which in turned gained him access to Cerebro to help his other cause. Like I said, much more interesting than the millions of other superhero movies with the cut and dry "I'm the bad guy, come defeat me" scenario.

Yep, fuckin' weak.

Sorry man. I've just got a particularly low tolerance for this shit after enduring Marvel comics long past their usefulness. The first movie got in, nailed the characters, and got out. It reminded me of one of the good old X-Men annuals.

Let me ask you this - have you read the comics?

I can see someone who's never read X-Men being impressed with the second movie, but if you're a comic nerd. You know this shit happens all the fucking time. :p

Nope, think I've read maybe one X-men comic in my life. Always get all the knowledge I need from my comic nerd best friend though, he liked the second one more too. Anyway, speaking strictly in terms of film, the second one gels together much nicer than the first.

Yeah, that's the problem. You didn't see this coming.

I'll hazard the guess that your friend still reads X-Men comics?

I stopped over a decade ago because Marvel's hired talent only have so many ways to rehash the same god damned story before you the consumer catch on. It's largely due to the unchanging nature of these corporate owned properties, in plain English: The Characters.

So X2 really didn't thrill the shit out of me the way the first did due largely to it retreading the shit covered spots of familiar ground. The first movie was all bare feet and grass between my toes. :p

No, my friend hasn't read the comics in awhile now, I'd say since the mid to late 90s. He was married in 98, I think that's when most of his comic buying/reading ended, :lol .

For me, I did watch quite a bit of the cartoon of the early 90s. Although I don't know how incredibly faithful those were. The first flick also suffers from what many super hero flicks do, the need to awkwardly introduce everyone. That's another thing I like about the second, it sort of hits the ground running.

Everyone is also dismissing the possibility that Ratner loved the old Xmen comics and has a Gambit tattoo on his ankle with a pretty little Storm tattoo across his back and above his ass, haha.

ITS POSSIBLE!

Anyways. Most Xmen comic-readers I know loved the second one far more than the first. It's mostly based off the fact that they teased everyone with FEE-KNICKS but whatever. I liked the second one and thought it was solid, though it does drag a bit once they reach alkali lake. They focus so much on the cast as a whole that no character really ever develops, unless their player used to sing in musicals. I'll take the factual misses of the second one from the comics over the horrible scripting/directing gaffes of the first one any day of the week.

What's everyone worried about? Just as long as Snake is helping, it'll all be sheezy.

He's in it, right? Snake?! SNAAAAAAKKKEEE?!!?!*

Variety confirms Ratner directing X3:
20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment set Brett Ratner on Friday night to replace Matthew Vaughn as the director of X-Men 3, reports Variety. Shooting will start in August for a Memorial Day weekend 2006 opening date.

A comic book enthusiast, Ratner was among the helmers considered to direct the first X-Men. The job went to Bryan Singer instead. Ratner then spent a full year developing Superman Returns, the film that ultimately prompted Singer to drop out of directing "X3."

The trade adds that the "X3" budget is locked, and Fox and Marvel brass consider the script by Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg to be at least as strong as that of the first two installments. The original returning stars have been signed, and the cast is bolstered by Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut and Lost star Maggie Grace as Kitty Pryde (aka Shadowcat).

Fox's hiring of Ratner also means that Rush Hour 3 will most certainly miss New Line's projected fall start and summer 2006 release dates. Ratner directed the first two films in that series and seemed certain to make the third, but Chris Tucker's unwillingness to sign his $20 million deal in timely fashion scotched those plans.
