Data Design Interactive flags down a Taxi in London, England.

Stourbridge, England November 2004 - Data Design Interactive wholly owned subsidiary of Green Solutions Ltd announced today that they have secured the licence to create a driving game based on the Official FX4 London Black Cab. London Taxi will be set in London England, complete with landmarks such as: Trafalgar square, Big Ben, Hyde Park

This is a great arcade title, that you can just pick up and play, smashing fun, weaving between the traffic, racing against the clock, chase, smash, and crash, the emphasis is on great fun. As developers we have come up with a great playable game, and then chosen the classic Black cab as the ideal vehicle and London as the best environment to race in. It is great to have the chance to write games for gamers, rather than just another film license

The London Taxi game will be based on what Black cabs do best; collecting customers and taking them to famous London destinations within the time limit to get paid. There will be different routes, obstacles and busy traffic to transverse before picking up one of the many paying customers waiting for a lift. London Taxi will feature a realistic map of central London for players to race around.

The Official FX4 London Black cab itself is perfectly rendered, and features environment mapping to bring out the high-polished look of the famous London Black Cabs.

Sounds like someone in the UK played Crazy Taxi a few times and thought "We should do a game like this... but set it in the UK! Our Taxis are better! This will be huge!""YEAH!"

gawd, I remember waiting for Crazy taxi on DC sooo much! and then when I booted in for the first time I was filled with anticipation on a level rarely seen, and what's more, the game didn't dissapoint, I played and I played until my thumbs were raw, and then I played some more, always with the sound pumping loud.

I think the original CT was one of the great games of the Dreamcast era...

ut ubsequent attempts to duplicate it have failed miserably... so this game leaves me cold.

But subsequent attempts to duplicate it have failed miserably... so this game leaves me cold.

When I first played it in the arcade after people on IRC raved about it in Japan, (Sega test location so we had it a month or so before other arcades) I immediately fell in love with the game, played like 15-20 games that night in a row. Hit all the Japanese CT sites and ended up whipping up my own english site over the next few days.

I've taken down all the links to my site now (since I haven't updated it in 4 years), but still left the pages up... all these people still e-mail me about it.

Naturally, I have all the Crazy Taxi sequels. It's cool that the third one has the first one redone with some extras, but it's still different...

I think Chris Tang said it best - "Hitmaker needs to change it's name to 'One Hit Wonder' as the first game they come out with in a series is cool, but the sequels suck. Just look at Crazy Taxi and Top Skater."

Possible invisible taxi driver = bad

Starbucks = not subliminal advertising, probably quite accurate. Bloody everywhere.

London, and screenshots with lack of red buses and tea shops = good start!

One step closer to Grand Theft Auto Birkenhead / Moss Side / Southwark / <insert place with high crime rate and orrible yobs-a-plenty>
