King's Field retro clone in development - Nox Mortalis

Developed by Gemezl, who seems to be a solo dev with a few previous indie horror games. Now he takes a stab at King's Field with PS1 style graphics.
With larger open world bits and crafting. The game had a playtest over the weekend.

Kinda mind-blowing to consider this is the work of one guy, FromSoftware had a team of 22 people for the original KF. Now the tools are so sophisticated & user-friendly a team of one can produce a convincing simulacrum.

A weird lil niche has formed for these games, I like it. Still, I would like to see one using modern tech, I feel like the time is ripe for From to do a new Kings Field.

Not sure about that combat, but I've added it to my wishlist and will check it out if they ever release an open demo.

Lunacid is also a solo developed indie game in the vein of King's Field.
Heard that one is kinda bad.

Wish these retro games would quite with the dogshit resolution - it was never a groovy aesthetic choice, it was a hardware limitation, now long surpassed. Crow Country last year was another one.

Could be sweet if these games would grow in popularity like Dark Souls. The atmosphere and exploration are great for example in Lunacid.

It feels more like a Dread Delusion with crafting and less like a Lunacid. Atleast the beginning of the playtest.

This isn't a good or bad thing necessarily. Would have to go into it some more.

The music is on point.

Nice, another one. Thank you for letting us know. I hope some of these will absolutely rock. Labyrinth of the demon king comes pretty close. Lunacid did not. And I forgot I already have dread delusion..

Get a look at the Steam Next Fest Trailer for Nox Mortalis, a retro-inspired open-world survival game developed by Gemezl. Players will explore the halls of dungeons to gather supplies, craft gear, and take on creatures from Hell in the ultimate fight for survival. Nox Mortalis is coming soon to PC (Steam), with a demo available now as part of Steam Next Fest.

Lunacid is great. So many weird secrets in it. It can be punishing till you learn one game play trick. I beat it earlier this year.

This new game looks great too. I'll play it.
Lunacid is awesome! Northern Journey is another gem in that style.
Just started Northern Journey too. So far, I like Lunacid much more but it's pretty good.
