Edit: turns out the story is partially BS? many are saying the arrest is for repeated trespassing on school property after being let go for refusing to call someone by their pronouns. So while yes, silly to be let go for such a thing the arrest is not actually because of that.

He said the court had not directed Mr Burke to refer to a pupil by a new pronoun or to do or say anything that might conflict with his religious beliefs.

The judge said Mr Burke had not been imprisoned or fined for his views on transgender issues, which he was perfectly entitled to have and to articulate. He said the court had simply directed that Mr Burke must not trespass on school premises as he had been dismissed from his position for gross misconduct.

The judge said this distinction was not difficult to understand and any of Mr Burke's students from Transition Year up would understand it.

The judge ruled Mr Burke's arguments that a Court of Appeal decision in a related matter had undermined the orders made against him to stay away from the school were utterly without merit. He said if Mr Burke had wanted to appeal the court's orders, he should have done so at the appropriate time.

He pointed out that the school had to hire security guards at a rate of €1,000 per week solely and exclusively to keep Mr Burke out. He said Mr Burke would rather this money was spent on keeping him out of the school rather than on the needs of pupils.

The judge described this as the "grotesque behaviour" of a teacher putting his own "ridiculous sense of himself" above the needs of his pupils. He said Mr Burke was willing to sacrifice the pupils of the school on the altar of his fanatical campaign against transgenderism.

The judge went on to describe Mr Burke's presence at the school as "deeply unsettling".

It does seem to be becoming more common for people to fall for and share this stuff. It seems like you get these pockets of political discussion with people who are whipping each other into a frenzy over this kind of thing. It's one of the reasons I avoid a lot of political discussions online these days.
 
Just an FYI this isn't the UK. Its in Ireland in a town a few miles from where I live.

And yes: our government is run by despotic idiots. He was fired from his job for expressing his religious beliefs. Which is constitutionally protected here, unless it involves a confused male child that thinks they're a girl ....apparently.

but the original "gross misconduct" that he was fired for was the refusal to use the they pronoun

puts the media spin on him being portrayed as just a nutter into question imo, plus who knows with judges, some of them are the biggest shitlibs out there

Many of them in The West are participating in activism or sabotage. You cannot make up how some of these judges let out career criminals. These people are supposed to be judges. If they are letting people out with multiple felony convictions and looking the other way, it's complacency and deliberate. These people need to take exams and have a great understanding of the laws both local and national. These people are not stupid and making bumbling mistakes. By. Design.

Well, I dont think that's all he was arrested for, as far as I can tell, he was abusive to staff members, probably related to the transgender thing but being aggressive to fellow co-workers can be grounds for dismissal. But if you look at how this guy has behaved since his dismissal I wouldn't say that's unlikely. Telling a high court judge to 'wipe that smirk off your face' isn't exactly normal behaviour.

A quick search says this man and his family are nutters being fined or arrested for repeated trespass/violating restraining orders, not their religious beliefs.

Don't just bring up social media posts like my Boomer dad who doesn't understand that the algorithm is specifically designed to provoke him and keep him enraged about nonsense.
 
Very religious the Burkes from Castlebar in Ireland, there have been many incident's over the years with them and many more to come, it's not their first time.

Also he was suspended for an altercation with the Principal about a transgender student that wasn't in any of his classes. So he is mainly protesting about other people not using his preferred pronouns for someone else.

It's true that the legal basis for his prison time is contempt of court. He wasn't jailed for his beliefs. But it's also true that the only reason the court order exists in the first place was his refusal to comply with the school's direction about pronouns. I don't think it's fair to reduce it to "his family are nutters" which dismisses the school policy that triggered the whole chain of events.

You give them a bit inch and you open the way for their evil twisted and insane ways to infect much more.

In slight defence of the officers, they are executing a warrant from the High Court, which isn't even a criminal court, so whatever he did it wasn't as a result of a police investigation. Nonetheless it's all ridiculous and doesn't need that many officers.

It's not unfair. He was dismissed from his work for multiple reasons, among which was the pronoun issue, and opted to trespass to the point of criminality. This man is from a family of religious nutters with questionable behaviours.

The court document doesn't identify unrelated issues as the cause of his dismissal as a teacher. It only specifies two grounds:

"(1) his refusal to
obey a direction of the school that a transgender pupil be addressed by the surname "they"
and (2) because of his gross misconduct at a school religious service (and other events) and
the manner in which he conducted his objection to transgenderism."

Even the "gross misconduct" cited isn't a separate issue, the misconduct was his objection to the same policy, specially the way he raised it during a school service. So yeah, he trespassed and ignored court orders, that's why he has been arrested. He absolutely could have handled his protest very differently. But the disciplinary and suspension started because of the school's pronoun policy. Both can be true: that he broke the law, and the dispute originated from a contested policy, rather than random 'nutter' behaviour.
 
He's free to start a private school protected from wokeism and transgender ideology. He is free to have his religious beliefs, but going after children because you take umbrage with certain cultural trends is not protected speech. It's even weirder because he hasn't been employed for 3 years now, and has continued to trespass for that entire time despite multiple warnings, hundreds of thousands of fines, and multiple trips to jail. That's really fucking weird behaviour. He also films all of this and posts it to his social media. It's obvious that he continues to do this either he's a deranged loon or because he realizes he can make more money being a social media rage farmer than being a productive member of society, possibly a combination of both.

But he can also have approached that dispute in a manner that was 'nutty'. The fact he has got to a point where the Westboro Baptist Church are saying to chill suggests that he probably didn't start out as sane and rational.

3 years? I'd heard about this but didn't realise it had been going on for so long. It makes me wonder how many of these people who are deeply into this stuff are just unemployed and without much to do other than sit around on social media.

I agree he pushed things too far, his behaviour was extreme and definitely counter productive. But the dispute didn't arise because he was mentally unstable, it started from a disagreement he had with the school pronoun policy. It escalated because he handled that disagreement badly. You can argue that he lacks judgement, but just calling him a nutter basically erases the underlying dispute that set everything in motion. He should be arrested for breaking the law, absolutely, but I think there is a reasonable discussion to be had about his dismissal from the school in the first place.

First off, the only issue at hand is the topic in question and it has been established that the purpose of his arrest is with respect to trespass. We need not go any further. His termination, for any reason, does not logically require his criminality. I'm not going to entertain the "intergenerational trauma" nonsense where somehow we need to consider the deterministic nature of this universe every time some shit head commits a crime.

Secondly, outside of those legally protected cases or otherwise defined by contract, an employer is entitled to terminate you for any reason. You are not entitled to like the values of your employer but you are compelled to follow the rules. They pay X, you do Y. Don't like it? Leave.

Whether it's a bunch of yuppies working for Microsoft or religious nutters at schools, it's not a familial relationship, it's about rendering goods and services.

Thirdly, the act of not following rules of conduct is insubordination, which is a violation independent of whatever issue it relates to. Objecting to a policy is one item, doing something about it is separate and gets exponentially worse each and every time you do something that someone above you specifically tells you not to do.

People who aren't nut jobs leave and/or file legal contests. They don't repeatedly commit insubordination and then trespass onto the property of their employer. This is the discussion you want to have, not the topic at hand. The question to discuss is whether repeat violations of lawful court orders and continued harassment of school staff and pupils should be tolerated from deranged nutters who relish the soap box they get from the attention. This problem has come to a head with the advent of social media and short form clickbait videos on platforms like X. The laws will have to be updated to deliver more stringent penalties to counter this scourge.
