The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
All bets are off about the new James Bond - it looks like Pierce Brosnan may be back as the suave super spy after all. According to Internet reports, Sony bosses want Brosnan to return as 007 in the next Bond film Casino Royale, and they're keen for him to star in one more movie after that. A source tells website Darkhorizons.Com, "All the stuff we heard about Brosnan being out is just a ploy from both camps. The negotiations between Brosnan and Eon (Bond production company) came to an end because, in the last year, things were up in the air, thanks to all the organizational changes taking place. Brosnan/Eon camps are still going through the motions of bluffing each other: an echo of the old poker game that Cubby Broccoli (former Bond boss) went through with Roger Moore - Moore frequently announced that he wouldn't be back. The mood around Sony is that Brosnan will be back. Hence, the reluctance of the filmmakers to come right out and announce that they have parted ways with Brosnan. Sony are not in a gambling mood. They could lose more with an unknown actor, or with an experienced but unpopular actor. They're well aware that you just can't place any actor in this role."

I hope so IMO ever since Remington Steele Pierce was destined to play Bond... and though I enjoyed Die Another Day, technology-wise it was just WAAAAAAY the hell over the top... but now I'm sitting here thinking... was it really over the top? OR is it just that with today's technology it just LOOKED more over the top? I mean come on.. Moonraker had a guy trying to kill everyone on the planet with poison flowers, tons of space shuttles, and a zero G laser space fight.... then of course there is For Your Eyes only with the huge underwater base... yeah thinking about it more now I think the advancements in special effects have more to do with it seemingly being more over the top that previous storylines...

I really hope that I'm not the only one who thinks Brosnan is a weaksauce Bond and we could use new blood. I would much rather someone like Clive Owen have at it.

After seeing Clive owen in closer, I have my doubts on him becoming a good Bond.

He didn't appear like a "cool"(relaxed, everything being fine) kind of individual in the three films I've seen with him: Closer, Sin City and King Arthur.

Brosnan's getting too old to play Bond, and films with older Bonds tend not to work--see Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever, or Roger Moore in A View To a Kill.

I'm not sold on him either. I just think Brosnan's so...wrong about the way he plays him that I'd like someone else to get a shot. As long as it isn't Orlando Bloom. I know they'd never take the chance with such a franchise but I wouldn't mind seeing a much lesser-known actor do it.

I haven't seen Closer or Sin City but Owen did look uncomfortable in Arthur, but it's hard to do much with such a shitty script.

Brosnan is an alpha Bond... so typically english and suave and a pretty good looking guy... in reality, the last Bond movie isn't all that bad if you go back and rewatch it... I quite enjoyed it the second time around.

makes sense. And Brosnan has always admired Casino Royale, so his will will be weak to resist it.

I wonder if this means that Quentin Tarantino will be directing Casino Royale. He said he would do it if Brosnan was Bond, I believe.

^^^ Yeah I believe there was a quote of him saying that..

Well, for me, this is great news.. I personally think Brosnan rocks, and I've really liked all the current Bond movies, soooo.. :D

I'd love to see Clive Owen get a chance at Bond. I'm not really sure who else could pull it off, anyways. I say if getting Brosnan gets you Tarantino, then you get Brosnan.

i want a new guy to play bond, brosnan just seems out of place in the bond series.

i would want to see a younger and diffrent bond, who said bond have to be this charming character all the time?

i want the new bond to be more "evil"

So basically you want to kick Ian Fleming in the nuts?

I think everyone is in agreement that what the Bond series needs now is a Bond who smoulders with generic rage. And they should replace Q (or R now) with X(zibit) and the guys from West Coast Custom. "We put a flip down guided-nuclear missile system in your caaar". Thanks MI6 for pimping my ride.

(not directed at you) If you want a younger, hipper Bond, go watch XXX and see how that turned out. *

* Not bad, but not good either. :)

I really hope this is true, considering Martin Campbell (Goldeneye director) is back and how he wants to tone down the special effects for the next Bond movie.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
I question the validity of this. I mean, they're going to have to get a new Bond soonish. How long can Brosnan continue the job? Besides, they're heading BACK in the timeline for this next movie. It just doesn't make sense. Brosnan returning to play Bond during his very first days as a 00 agent? Uh... and somehow I doubt they'll be reworking the concept and script yet again. I think Sony's itching to get this franchise going sooner rather than later.

Tenacious-V Redux
seems inevitable to bring Brosnan back. last thing Sony's new regime needs and movie-goers want is a botched "new" 007 ala Lazemby/Dalton. Now sign on Quentin, make this Brosnan's farewell (or one more) and that gives you 4+ years to find a credible replacmenet (ie. not jackman/owen/etc.)

Considering his present state, that would've been quite a trick.

I think there were other things that weakened his will...

Wasn't there talk at one time of Christian Bale doing Bond? Now that would be sweet.

Probably unlikely since he's donning the Batsuit...a character actor like him wouldn't wanna do two franchise characters (hell most actors in general probably wouldn't want that).
