Brother in arms 360 :eek!!:

Apparently they have demoed a SSS shader previously using UE3. I'm not sure myself.

I'm not sure about present games using it, but I think it's something that'll get used quite a lot going forward.

as I know, they never have done this with UE3

Ati and nvidia have done fake-SSS in their tech demos using Blur-Maps shaders, but if you look at the results, we are talking of something different here

the faked SSS results in some 'plastic' look, and look well in translucency

the subsurface scattering can be obtained in different ways, in the standard pc gpu style, it's better to go with Blur-Maps, but with a dedicated architecture as xenos we can go beyond, ATI in his docs says that memexport can be used to calc some ray-tracing (I think they means "ray tracing - like" effects) in rendering

this is why we really don't know what they are doing in this game, if they are using standard pc-ps3 approach, than 360 version will have a shader frag to calc SSS, if they are using xenos deeply, I think they can use memexport features to have something better

at this point anyone that came with an authority statement, is wrong
we have to wait till developer talks deeply of their game

And why is that? Most assuredly Rev will bring us games which would make PS3 and X360 cry thanks to it's controller interface. This is not about crying, it's about two different approaches to market.

Yeah and I think you should stop being so damn confident until we actually see something from Nintendo that amounts to a little more than sand scratching.

Oh and we've all read the Nintendo press releases, please stop repeating them.

looks really good, but i starting to wonder, if there will be any other genres on next gen beside 1st person shooters.

Well, jap dev. need to show some stuff. Capcom seems to put some efforts in their next-gen games but for the rest...
We're still waiting for Namco, Squeenix, Konami etc etc...
But yeah, with the power of these next-gen machines, It was obvious we would see a lot more FPS coming on consoles now.

well if this is actually representative of what BIA 360 will look like when playing or even transistioning perspectives, then holy shit. looks next-gen to me. GRAW eat your heart out :D

I think we're talking on Beyond3d :lol I'll restrict my discussion of this to there. Suffice to say, though, any realtime implementations you see of SSS in games are "simulated", approximations of techniques used offline. They're all "fake" from that perspective, and for now at least, I see no reason to believe that this implementation differs from those already seen implemented in the PC space (via demos or whatever) when it comes to this.

That lighting is unbelievable, as in I'm really having trouble believing its realtime, even in-game cutscene. Blows everything else miles out of the water.

However I note scans can be deceptive re: quality.

That's why I'm going to wait to see the game in motion, because It looks really really good!

This is sort of OT, but does anyone know the story on Brothers in Arms PSP? It's on release lists for April, but I haven't heard a thing about it. Is it an FPS?

I went to look at these images and they were gone...

this was at the bottom of the article...

EDIT : Menacés de poursuites par l'OXM Américain (...), nous avons dû retirer ces quelques images.

Loosely translated it means...

EDIT: Threatened pursuits by the American oxm (...), we had to withdraw these some pictures.

shitty.

Uh...the pictures were just cropped images of the pic TTP just posted.

OMG that looks awesome. It's incredible that UBI will be giving us games that blow away GRAW by the end of the year with this title and Rainbow Six Vegas. Noone should be surprised, though. Ubi totally led the charge this gen while doing things that were hard to believe on the Xbox (see: SC: CT)

I cannot find any BIA images on that site and I can't nav to the screens from the links in this thread. :-(

NM - just read "legal" warning above.

I am such a facking tard. I spent 15 minutes looking on GAF for these "pics" and then found the actual OXM issue on my desk, under some muffin crumbs.

Anyone got any guesses about what the "R" on the helmet means?

Damn damn damn!!!!

The 360 is just shaping up so well. This is going to be a killer year for next gen gamers!!! :D :D

Very nice. Graphics this next gen will be about the same as they were this past...ie: not much different between consoles, but miles between developers who have skills and those who don't.

Agreed.

Question:

is there something wrong with me when I say that I am not completely awe inspired by the BiA 360 shots?

They look good, but I honestly do not see anything significantly better than what we've seen already from stuff like GoW or several other game previews already.

I feel like all the games next gen are beginning to look like the same damn thing. -_-
