Bubble Bobble Revolution (DS)?

Apparently gets released here in Australia next week, and it's been out in the UK/Europe (and Japan) for a while. But there's basically shit all information about it on the various internets.

So uh, anyone played it? =(

Also another excuse to post this disaster;

I played it. It's worth getting if you're a BB fan. The original is included with really good emulation. The remix mode is not super-attractive, but it still certainly feels like the original game. The biggest changes are that the screens scroll & that you have a 3 Heart Life bar. The music's exactly what you remember.

I have played it. It's pretty bad. If you're a diehard Bubble Bobble-maniac the game may be worth getting for the faithful port of the original (which only uses the bottom screen), but even that is compromised by the inability to gameshare for multiplayer (especially inexcusable after Mario Kart's 8-player single card option). Still, I prefer it slightly to Bubble Bobble Old & New (GBA), because there's very little scrolling and a clearer picture.

The remixed version is pretty much worthless. Main problem is that ol' scrolling thing again: the levels are too big, so you can't take in all the action at once, which is one of the original's strengths. Why they didn't just double the playing field vertically (which they also do, but they arguably screw up the jumping by not compensating for the room between the two screens) is beyond me. Graphics are drab and far less charming than those of the original, although the character design isn't nearly as bad as the cover artwork. Bonus points for some nifty if limited use of the microphone in some of the levels (blow to make a fan work), fun boss battles and a four player mode (good luck finding three other people who own this game, though), but they don't quite make up for the flaws.

All that said, I'm actually still somewhat interested in the developer's Rainbow Islands update, since that game's vertical gameplay could benefit more from the doubled height, and they seem to have implemented some interesting usage of the Touch Screen (draw your own rainbows, Kirby-style). But after this and Space Invaders Revolution (which I played at E3 and thought pretty bland), I'm not holding my breath...

Just coming into this thread made the song get stuck in my head :(

So its better than Old & New?

The original game on the cart definitely is, but whether or not the new version is better is certainly debatable.

I wish Taito would port or remake later BB games like Bubble Symphony.

Wow, this is one of the baddest Box I've seen since the NES era. Where there was so much difference between the characters ingame and on the box :]

Some bubbles are just rotated, completely disregarding where the light comes from. omg

This is sad. If Rainbow Islands is fucked up too, there's going to be blood.

That said, the box art for BBR is genius. Bloater-crackhead Bub and Bob is clearly designed to appeal to the younger generation. It's like Rising Star's answer to Shadow the Hedgehog.

Gritty! :lol

I have Old & New for the GBA. But it still can't live up to the PSX version which is pretty much the best BB I've played since the arcade. (Seeing as it IS the arcade game, level design and all.)

Does this one include the original arcade version? Because when they say it includes the original BB, that could mean anything. There have been like half a dozen different versions. I WANT THE ORIGINAL ARCADE VERSION ON A PORTABLE!

And please tell me this doesn't make the screens span. PLEASE. I hate that. I can't play Metroid Pinball because you have to follow the ball across the divider bar. It is a PEEVE and I HATE it! Damn DS. Why couldn't it be one big touch screen? :(

I'm a die-hard BB fan, but I did not buy the DS version.
The remix sucks ass, so even though the old version is pretty much perfect, I'm not paying 5040 yen for that alone. Loved the Saturn port of BB and RI, but nothing has come close since.

Er, the arcade version is on the GBA version, too, so I'm not sure what you mean, but yes, it's on the DS, and the sound is much closer to the original arcade version than other ports have been.

The remake version is on two screens. Sorry. :)

I loved Bubble Bobble and don't currently own any version of it, but that box art is the picture-perfect example of how much the cover can ruin a game. I'd be embarrassed to have that on my shelf, not because it's kiddy but because it's downright hideous.

Well, I can't seem to find a code for the GBA version that gives you extra lives. In the PSX version, enter a code to open a cheat menu (Acts like an arcade cabinet's option switches) and skip levels or add lives. It's the only way I can play. I haven't seen any cheat like this in the GBA version.

Damn. Then we'll never get a good portable version. No purchase for me. No spanning! No way!

Bub and Bob really let themselves go, didn't they? I suppose that's what happens when you've achieved so much success and didn't really have to do much else because you're at the top of your game. They need to go on the Subway/Jared diet...or get their stomachs stapled.
