I started watching Buffy on F/X around last May. But, due to school I rarely see it. Anyway, I've probably seen anywhere between 15 and 30 episodes. Problem is, there are pretty much all out of order. Thus, I'm a bit confused with the Angel situation. As far as I know it goes like this...

Buffy and Angel meet. A while later she finds out he's a vampire and is all pissy about it. Somehow or another they get back together and have sex. He turns into a killer guy. She kills him to close a portal to hell. Then he comes back all psyco. But then he turns normal. But...I just saw an episode where they are in college. And he's nowhere to be found. What happened there? And if you could fill in a bit of the blanks in my little overview that'd be nice too.

Angel leaves at the end of Season 3, because he realises that Buffy and him just aren't meant to be since she's human and will age and eventually die, and he's immortal and will keep living.

As for the above, the reason he went psycho after they had sex is because he was cursed by gypsys, so that he could never experience true happiness, and if he ever did he'd turn back into Angelus (his evil form). Him having sex with Buffy was true happiness for him.

Just having sex won't turn Angel into Angelus. It has to be a "moment of perfect happiness". It happened with Buffy because they were deeply in love with each other, and I don't think he felt quite as strongly about Cordelia.
