Buffy Season 6: Normal Again - Thoughts?

So which side is real? This episode really bothered me the remaining run of Buffy. The lack of closure is neat mind bending crap, but it shakes my faith in the characters.

Then again I suppose the Angel spinoff solidifies the buffyverse as legitimate.

It's the writers fucking with us. The end.

Don't worry, the whole Buffyverse isn't just a dream, it's a TV show.

But if you want to have an actual convo on this, the fact that Angel exists in another part of the world without Buffy even knowing about it kinda tells you that it's not a dream.

It's all a psychotic fantasy. Angel is just an extension of it.
Alright I'll bite. If it was all a psychotic fantasy, then wouldn't Buffy know exactly what's going on to Angel, even if she isn't there, since it is her fantasy? And if that were the case, wouldn't she know Spike was back, etc etc, even if in her brain she was thousands of miles away?

Heh. Great episode. Wasn't Joss pissed with the director because it wasn't supposed to be as ambigious as closing scenes made it seem? Season 6 gets a bum deal...it has some great episodes...season 7 on the other hand...that was just plain shite.

No, she compartmentalizes everything. She would know it in the sense that it's somewhere in her head, but it would be at a primarily subconscious level.

If the fact that she doesn't know every single thing that's going to happen (or is happening) is a prerequisite then of course it can't be a delusion -- how would anyone ever be able to sneak up on her? I don't think it works like that though...

My penis is still intact.
I absolutely adore that episode. The very fact that it still has you questioning whether Buffy's universe is in her head or not just shows how great the writing is. I mean, when they discuss Buffy's death and resurrection as her recovering and then relapsing, and Dawn's sudden appearance and rewriting of her entire past as a need to create a familial bond, you start to think, "Well...that actually...that actually makes a lot of sense" and get worried.

I like the ambiguity of it personally. Leave the door open and believe what you want to believe. Personally I like to believe Buffy's world isn't just part of some mental breakdown, so I don't.

I don't know if that's true. I did prefer S6 to S7, that's for sure, but S7 had some great episodes too. Namely Conversations With Dead People, Selfless, Lies My Parents Told Me and Chosen. And a few others are pretty good. As for the rest...ermm...*hugs Angel S4 DVD*

Season 5! Feb!

I dunno, I used to hate Season 4 buffy but in a re-watch I enjoyed it a lot more. Season 7 would have rocked if they got rid of Real World Sunnydale.
