Bundles of Awesome - The Official WiiWare Discussion Thread

Is there a Dr. Mario thread?

My friend code:

Nabs - 4098 6963 1262

I didn't buy it yet, so this is just the multiplayer demo.

FFCC questions:

I cannot behest a HOLIDAY the option is not listed when i click the town??

how to unlock Chime's Room?

second play through :D
1. Your realm needs to be level 3 (City) before you can behest holidays.

2. Chime's Room seems to be a DLC update that hasn't been released yet.

On a side note i'm waiting for the first Dev to have the balls to release at 200 points for the first level(s) of the game and then sell you the rest by DLC if you like it (the 800 to make it to a non squenix game price). Kind of like a Demo but with all the functions and multiplayer but a fraction of the content.
You could give each chapter titles, too! Like, you could call the first release, say, "Knee Deep in the Dead", and followup chapters called something like "The Shores of Hell" and "Inferno". Heck, you could even come back to it much later on and add a new bonus chapter called something like "Thy Flesh Consumed"!

I jest, somewhat, but I think you've got a fair point; Wiiware could potentially be a fertile ground to resurrect the shareware concept that's kinda been a bit dormant for a good few years now. Indeed, I wonder if it's possible to go the whole hog and release the 'base game' for 0 Wii Points and charge for DLC for all the subsequent content, going completely towards the shareware principle?

Hmm, how can you have so many games on one Wii?
Did you delete all your Virtual Console games or something?
Maybe some channels you didn't use?
Yes..and yes..hehehe.. :p
Have everything stored (7 WiiWare games, 17 VC games, plus saves for over 20 games, every channel that can be transfered/released so far, a few pictures and over 50 MP3s)..and still have 980MB free on the SD Card..

Make sure you all buy Toki Tori. The increase of 100 points is due to conversion, Two Tribes would get less money if it was still 900 due to the weak Dollar. The game is still fantastic and is in my opinion, the best title on the service.

Well Europe gets screwed on points prices anyways so it's not really an increase in actual money spend.

And even if it were so, at $10 this game is an absolute steal and a real gem.

I bought Dr. Mario and Star Soldier today because I got paid on Friday and only added twenty bucks so I could buy Metal Slug ( I only had 700 points left before that).

Star Soldier is awesome and probably the best pick up and play option for a quick game. Any tips from some pros on upping my score? I think I got 600,000 on the two minute my first time through.

After playing Dr. Mario, I'm reminded of two things: it might have the catchiest music in videogame history and I'v always sucked hard at Dr. Mario.

Definitely getting Toki Tori tomorrow. No doubt I'll be getting Shantae when that comes out too. Shantae has been held back for far too long.

Going to add my support to the Toki Tori cause. This is a wonderful little game, they don't make them like this anymore. The menu screen music is annoying as hell but all the other music is really quite nice, and there's loads of attention to detail, old school style, like how Toki will balance if he's standing on an edge, and another thing - when you press the opposite direction he spins around to face that way, and the devs clearly knew people were going to do that repeatedly as a sort of habbit thing, so if you do it enough he's gets all dizzy and has to shake his head out of it. You get loads of game for your money too, great value.

Buy this game!

I finished Lost Winds yesterday. It's quite nice for a short, simple, soothing and relaxing game but there's not much to go back to once you beat it the first time. Still, the overall quality of it is superior to many Wii disc-based third-party titles.

I'm still waiting for Gyrostarr,Plattchen and Gravitronix. Toki Tori does look like fun though so that may be another title to pick up.

I'm all over Gyrrostarr (I'm not sure which syllable the extra 'r' is in so I put it in both just in case) when it comes out.

hey, i've even cleaned the fridge for TT! check mii out had to go, but what is more important, sin & punishment too. TT better be good ; )

Can anyone send me Dr. Mario demo please?

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

June 2, 2008

From family-friendly puzzles to crackling combat, this week's additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel offer a mix of downloadable delights. Fight fans can even choose between futuristic space missions and retro-styled martial arts battles. Take your pick and kick off the summer with an invigorating dose of Wii action.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare™

Protöthea™ (UbiSoft, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Protöthea is a top-down scrolling shooter game with free movement that puts players in complete control of a last-generation spaceship. The mission is to destroy the asteroid called Maqno 01 and finish with the plans of The Core. UbiSoft's Protöthea introduces new concepts to a beloved, classic game style while mixing genres and utilizing the full capabilities of the Wii console, from graphics to controls. Players of all ages and experience levels will enjoy taking command of their ship, blasting through four different worlds in 10 challenging missions. Use your weapons arsenal and the special bonus items to help you accomplish your mission, and don't forget to slow down time and take an edge over the enemy.

Toki Tori (Two Tribes, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Toki Tori is his name, and collecting eggs is his game. In this puzzle/platform game, players use a variety of items such as the Telewarp, InstantRock™ and Slug Sucker. Clever use and combination of these items are needed to solve all the game's levels, of which there are more than 70. Levels range from easy to brain-teasingly hard, resulting in dozens of hours of puzzle play time. Toki Tori makes the most of what Wii has to offer. It uses the Wii Remote™ for a unique control scheme, which offers players a new and more relaxing play style. A second player can help you out by drawing hints while you are playing. The game even uses the Wii Message Board in a unique way.

Virtual Console™

Ninja Combat (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E 10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Mild Suggestive Themes, Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1990, Ninja Combat is a side-scrolling combat-action game. Take control of the ninjas Joe (one player) and Hayabusa (two players), and enter into battle against a group of evil ninjas called the Kage Ichizoku. Make your way into their home fortress, Ninja Tower, which dominates a big city of the near future. Fight using normal attacks, jumps, special movements and ninja materials that deliver damaging blows to all enemies on the screen. In addition, you'll find weapons and items to aid you along the way. Even better, as you progress in the game, reliable allies such as Musashi, Kagerow and Gembu will emerge to fight alongside you, allowing you to choose a new character in each stage. Ninja Combat also supports simultaneous play with two players, so you can grab a friend and defeat the Kage Ichizoku together.

for the record, I bought Dr Mario and..... complete buyers' remorse. I have to admit, I hated the game back in the NES days. Thought it was the worst out of all the puzzle games I played around that time (even worse than Columns). Figured maybe it was one of those things I jsut didn't get back then, and with all the hype and the online mode figured I would give it a shot...

uggh... I wish I could give this game to someone now... Dr. Mario is OBVIOUSLY not the puzzle game for me. :( Worst part is, because I blew my 1000 points on it, I don't have any left for Toki Tori which actually looks like I game I would enjoy considerably.

This is what's kept me from downloading, even though the hype has been tempting me. I never liked Dr. Mario nearly as well as Tetris, and that should be coming at some point. I just wish we knew when.

wait, aiming with your mote in a sidescrolling shooter? Hrm, horrid decision if you ask me

"utilizing the full capabilities of the Wii console, from graphics"

ahaha, suuuuure. I always love when they say such crap, just like MOH2

Considering how slow Wiiware releases are in Japan, I am susprised at how dedicated NOA seems to be to it, even if they don't actively advertise it (although technically speaking, if you are theoretically able to download the games over your Wii, you will know about them due to WiiShop/Nintendo Channel).

Two games a week is more than we expected or hoped for beforehand - and I wonder when the releases will begin to slow down. In the coming weeks, we can still expect Pirates: Key of Dreams, Gyrostarr, Strong Bad Episode One, and Major League Eating - what else will be expected to show up in the next month? At least after that, we can be sure of an extra Strong Bad episode per month for half a year, but even with 100 games in development, how many will actually be finished for this summer?

Actually, there are a good number of other titles that have been ESRB rated for a potential release as well, including Home Sweet Home, Helix, Magnetica Twist, Spogs Racing, Cocoto Fishing Master, and Block Breaker Deluxe. We could be seeing 2 Wiiware game weeks for a while just based on those.

ok I'm scared now
I maxed out on MLAAK's DLC
played 414 days for S-rank on hard

cleared it - so sleepy

square enix = created wii-crack

Wow, Toki Tori looks awesome. Anyone know how big it is? I promised myself I wouldn't buy any Wii Points until a storage solution came out, but I have some in my account that I could use.

Hmm... I'll have to get Toki Tori too. I just finished My Life as a King, and I don't want to start playing it again just yet (150 days, A rank, normal).
