Uh-oh, negative Wii press clippings. 50GB hard drive inbound.

WiiWare™

Dr. Mario® Online Rx (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): The doctor is in! Mario™ takes a break from his adventuring ways and once again dons his stethoscope for a new generation of germ-battling mayhem. In addition to the classic mode of using vitamins to exterminate viruses, you'll find two battle modes and an online multiplayer mode where you can hone your skills against players from around the world. Feel like challenging a friend who doesn't have Dr. Mario Online Rx? Then the WiiWare-exclusive Friend Battle Demo is just what the doctor ordered. Or maybe you'd like some help taking on those nasty viruses? Try out Virus Buster, where four players can simultaneously move capsules simply by pointing at them with a Wii Remote™ controller. Any way you look at it, Dr. Mario Online Rx is a prescription for fun that everyone can enjoy.

.

"Hell, Its about time"

Fuck yeah getting this.

Just got Dr. Mario (thanks Nintendo!) and am waiting to but Family Table Tennis. If it actually controls well (like Wii Sports), I'm going to get it, esp. since it's only $5...

Someone mentioned earlier that Picross is coming to Japan WiiWare this week. Is that from Nintendo? And does anyone have pics?

I've been hoping for some 2D oldschool RPG's since the service was announced.
Yeah. While I wouldn't expect a massive full-length effort, that WiiWare games can use ten times the space of Chrono Trigger makes me sure something interesting could be pulled off.

EDIT: BTW, how big is Dr. Mario Rx?

I didn't see the demo available yet.
Demo is invisible on the WiiWare game list, you can only access it if someone invites you (Click a link in your inbox) or if you've downloaded it before by going to Games You've Downloaded. Pictures are up so I assume it's there:

Damn, I was hoping for some Toki Tori this week. It better come next week!

And if Nintendo doesn't announce a hard drive or full support for flash memory at E3, they will really be shooting themselves in the foot, especially when WiiWare downloads start to dwindle. I'm sure VC games have felt the effects. 512MB just isn't enough space.

The helix facebook group is pretty interesting:

Thanks for the feedback. Without getting overly technical, the reason we lack a 2 player mode is a performance issue. We're using a 3rd party engine to calculate the moves the player is performing (through this program we can tell if you're punching up, down, doing a circle, whatever). The problem is performing these calculations puts a HUGE performance hit on the Wii (the system is fun, but it's by no mean a processing powerhouse). As such, we have to create a balance between gameplay and performance. The performance cost of calculating 2 players v. 1 is larger than one would think. :)

I'm sure as you may or may not be aware, Nintendo isn't the best about downloadable content (DLC). Fellow game developer Neversoft has tried finding a good solution. And in the end decided to release an "add-on" pack for their game Guitar Hero III. The key problem lies with the amount of space we have available to work with. The Wii has about half a gig worth of storage on the system itself. There is support for SD cards and USB devices (i.e.- external hard drive), but without some work, these outlets cannot be easily used for additional storage. As this is the case (currently), we have to develop around these limitations. All this being said, we do have plans for a sequel in the future and any content not in this version may find its way into Helix 2.

The way WiiWare titles work is we have to ship a release candidate (RC) off to Nintendo's QA department. They'll playtest the game, check for bugs, etc... And if there is anything major to be fixed, they'll get back to us with notes. This process can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks after they start testing. As an example of a bug that we didn't catch until after Nintendo looked at our game. We sent off a test RC about a month ago. Lo and behold there was a major bug. If the player 3/4 Wii Remotes were used, the player would get all of the moves correct. This may seem obvious, but as we were only testing for 1 player, it just never occurred to us to see what would happen when the other two Wii Remotes were introduced into the game. Fortunately, we've fixed this bug now.

Personally I am a lot happier inputing my credit card number every time, I really don't want a credit card number stored on my Wii or somewhere on Nintendo's servers.
The waiting for downloads thing would be a good point if we had Gb ffile sizes, but given the current size of downloads you wait a couple of minutes at most.
Lack of storage solution - this is the big issue, hopefully a solution is being worked on as we speak

Dr. Mario is pretty cool. I'm not very good at it but it's got a ranking system that's exactly like Mario Kart. And there's a few pre-made messages you can send between matches. My first matchup was with someone who had only played once before and we were evenly matched so it seems like it'll keep things nice and fair.

He has some valid points, although I disagree with re-entering the billing information. I like doing that, and it makes selling your system to anyone else less of a hassle, because your profile and credit card info isn't saved to the system. I think it's more secure too. Storage should have been at least 2 Gig flash memory.

Very good week for the Wii shop channel. Tons of people will be thrilled to see Metal Slug and Dr. Mario online, and the other two games are pretty good too.

I took one for the team and picked up Family table Tennis. The $5 price tag, the cell shaded graphics, and the pedigree with the brains behind Guilty Gear convinced me.
The graphics are bright and vibrant, while sold me on the game. I've never played Grand Theft Table tennis, so I don't have a yard stick to compare it to, but the controls are pretty decent. The only time I had trouble was one of the mini-games where fruit dropped at you from the middle; hitting it like a ball on the same side you hold the paddle was tough. It's also not a great game for 1P. Single player is limited to 3 battles against the computer, and it's over. The mini-games are fun and mix things up, especially the game where the # of rallys is your score. If you rallyed the ball 40 times and your opponent misses, you get 40 points. You play up to 99. There might be more to it as a 2PL game, but I haven't had the chance to play that yet.

I'd say give it a try. At $5 it's not a bad game.

Virus Buster alone was with my $10, Really like the new take on the game. Plus having a Wi-Fi enabled Dr. Mario is awesome!

I boght LostWinds and FFCC. The poeple who said that both are great and you should have them were right. So buy this two games.

I downloaded also Tori Toki and this game is awesome. It's every Wii point worth. It's a shame that the game is only place 5 (our of 6 in Europe) in die WiiWare charts. Buy this amazing game.

Bought Dr. Mario hours ago. oh my old memories~
love the MUSIC there :D

will try the online mode later.
the multiplayer virus mode = a little confuse, anyone can grab any capsule...

Do you see yourself deleting this game to make room for more goods in the near future..?

or would you say it is a wii console keeper?

...I understand everyone has different tastes I don't want do download it just cuz it's a good price.

5$, even if you delete afterwards is cheaper than the price of the mag you will buy for a review of this game.

huh? I get my reviews online my friend like a lot of people do i'm sure... why buy a mag when it's all online?

Sorry if it's obvious, been answered already, etc, but does Dr. Mario has a random multiplayer mode or is it only friend code based?

some people still buy mags.

5$ is very cheap, it is way below the impulse buy threshold.

How much cost a movie ticket in the US ??

It's got a random. Very similar to Tetris DS / Mario Kart DS

You guys aren't making the wait for this game very easy. Why don't we have it yet? :(

Well, it's a 1 player game.. :)

Indeed but you know why it's easy to still catch that bug? Each game must include the Home Menu and the guidelines are super clear and picky. At any time you can do connect/reconnect your Wiimotes in the menu. This means ALL games can and must be played with Remote 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Honestly, it's a basic bug. It means they didn't even read carefully the Home Menu guidelines.

Ign is one of the sites i'll take a look at to check out impressions but it's definately not the only point of view i'll get.

I understand it is cheap... but that won't justify a purchase from me. You the type of person who buys everything cuz it's cheap???

the blatant lack of Tori Toki this week pushed me over the SSR edge. you've done it now, NOA.

Does anyone know when more DLC is coming for this game? My GF just completed it, and she bought all the DLC already, and she's looking forward to more. Any ideas?

no cheap crap is still crap, but if it is good while it lasts, it will be worth it even if it is not a keeper.

I'm pretty sure that I saw an option to reset the Wii back to factory defaults but I could be wrong. But yeah, I prefer to enter my card info every time although there's really no reason I can think of for it to not save the other info somewhere. My name and address is hardly top secret information.

No, you have a Dr Mario channel, and a Dr Mario demo channel.

Or played SMB NES. Orange Mario! He further doesn't understand that each coin represents 1% downloaded. Still, he's right about the storage problem.

Wait, what? Each coin represents 1% download? No way. Or did you mean 10%?

And, I mean, how in the world is somebody supposed to know that the coins actually represented something? There's nothing I've ever seen stating this.

BIG FUCKING MEH, where the hell is Toki Tori NoA?
???

Toki Tori hasn't even been mentioned for a US release yet, technically. I don't understand why the blame falls on NoA? Also, the game has been out FOR A WEEK.

I can't believe how impatient you all are.
