WTF Toki Tori sends me emails. I feel important.

I'd like a really hard game to send me messages on my Wii calling me 'bitch' and mocking me for my mediocre skills as a gamer.

Nintendo, you better give us Toki Tori on Monday. I'm finding it extremely hard to keep 1200 points just waiting for this game to be released.

And this is probably exactly why they don't tell us the release dates. If you knew Toki Tori was releasing in two weeks, and then on Monday something that you were kind of interested in released, you would probably just wait, knowing that you would get Toki Tori in a week. But if you have no idea when Toki Tori is coming out, then maybe you decide to get that other game.

This is exactly how I ended up with Star Soldier. I had some points I was saving for Dr. Mario, but after it didn't release on the 19th, I decided to just go ahead and grab SS. (Glad I did, btw, super addictive.) If I had known it was coming this Monday, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

As for why they don't tell the developers, I guess it's because they're afraid the date would get leaked. They're probably right (this industry isn't really known for it's ability to keep secrets, outside of Nintendo) but it's still kind of a dick move.

Question: Is it considered cheap or unfair to use the "up" button when playing Dr. Mario against others on Wi-Fi? I had someone get real mad at me for doing that.
Dumb question: What happens when you press up?

Edit: Dumb question answered: It drops the piece down instantly. Why would people care about that? Tell them "LEARN2PLAY NUB."

If they're not willing to use it, they shouldn't be playing competitive Dr. Mario. If they don't know about it, then--er, tell them. :P

Serriously. I tend to not use it when playing a solo game, but in competitive play it's all about how fast you are.

Gotta love playing on the internets. :lol

Thanks. I figured the guy was just full of it, but wanted to make sure that there wasn't some unwritten rule or the like.

I love WiiWare. Purchases so far are My Life as a King, Dr. Mario, Lost Winds, and Star Soldier R. I'd buy everything if I had the space. Yeah, yeah, I know, I can delete some VC games, but I don't think I should have to do that.

Oh, and lol at the pic.

That's not a "strategy", and according to WiiWare-World.com even publishers are "clueless about when their games would be made available to the public". And another publisher was “completely in the dark” about their games release date.

I don't see how this could be an advantage to Nintendo, publishers, or gamers. I know that dates are always subject to change, but not telling the publishers or gamers until the day of the WiiWare release just seems stupid to me.
I've gotten the impression that all the console services are like that. The problem is that the platform-holder suddenly gains the power of the distributor and monopolistic retailer in addition to the massive amounts of power they have platform holder.

As long as there's only one online service per console, those sorts of troubles will always be around. Too much power in one place.

Ok, I spent 200 more points for some extra dungeons and buildings on FF:CC:MLAK. It wasn't that much, but I still feel like an idiot... I wasn't supposed to be supporting this pay-to-play crap.

The US will get Toki Tori Monday, but it'll be 1000 points, not 900.

Wha?! is this 100% confirmed? I'm happy about the fact that it's coming next week but it's not really fair that the US has to pay 1000 points while Europe gets it for 900 (Still well worth 1000 points though)

You should look at the euro/dollar conversion rate before telling something is unfair. We always pay more than you :lol

• Shantae WiiWare:

informally (and inadvertently) announced at GDC, this is an ongoing experiment in 2D on the Wii. As it currently stands, the game is very traditional as an action/platform game (no Wiimote Wagging) with its main draw being 480P 2D artwork. If the project gets legs, we’ll have more to say in the next newsletter. For now, it just looks cool!

EDIT:

Bolded because people are ignoring this awesome game and if it gets ignored it may not see the light of day!

I've imported my Wii from the US to the UK, believe me I am fully aware of how much us Brits get screwed over :lol

I'm not complaining though, about time UK got some decent treatment even though it isn't fair to the Americans (And besides, 100 points is chump change, especially for a game this good!)

Considering how you need to be much more exact in alignment when using instant-drop or risk screwing yourself, NO. Furthermore, if you're going to play against somebody good, it's absolutely necessary that you be able to constantly fast-drop and instant-drop pieces. Oh, and be able to chain in rapid succession to slow the other person down, but I guess sending garbage is cheap and unfair too!

Seriously though, it gets pretty ruthless higher in the rankings. Your buddy would get slaughtered.

Sucker.

I did the same thing :(

LostWinds was WAY too short. Character movement was way to slow if you ask me. I hope they introduce a way to dash around in the next one, as well as some more interesting upgrades. Locales were beautiful but a bit samey all-around. Took me 2 hours on my first play through to beat it.

kinda OT - but......

why there is no capcom wii ware support ? i thought they would be on the train day one...

You can use the wind to make yourself move faster.

I'm lost with Lost Winds. I'm half way through and suck at moving the guy, especially to reach and jump high using the wind :( THe first time, he goes up, but then most often the second brush put it back or in bad direction :(

If you can be more descriptive about your situation, I can help you.

When Wiiware launched Capcom officially said that they were still thinking about what to put on Wiiware. In other words they didn't really give a shit about it
(kinda how they feel about the Wii in general)

From Wayforward's site:

What Shantae needs (she talks in her sleep) are fans in great numbers to get loud. We’ve pitched sequels on all systems, and have had publishing deals on the table. What keeps this passionate lass tethered down are the low sales of original hardcore games in this age of mega-hitting dog petting, mama-cooking, brain training games. The question on the minds of our cash focused partners; how many Shantae fans are out there, ready to buy up a sequel? If we build it, will they come?
:lol

I don't know what they are expecting, but if they are looking for millions of gamers to profess their love for a game that in reality few people have even heard of they have another thing coming.

They just need to shut up and put it on Wiiware, but it sounds like they want a retail release which makes no sense.

I need some help how to use the basic wind to move the guy. For example, if I wand him to go up very high, I need to push him 3 times up, but even if the first push is ok, the second or third seem to be completely going in any direction. i think I am doing it wrong.

I don't feel like searching for it, but Sven specifically said on the BBS that they were just starting to think about what games to make for Wiiware if any.

And about mh3
Nintendo moneyhatted it so it doesn't count. :(

They probably need a publisher for the DS game they want to do.

Holy shit i just read this on Gamefaqs :lol

I asked a guy on a private board who had the full version to send me the demo. He did, and we played about 20 rounds. I've never played Dr. Mario before so he beat me 19-1.

So I go back to the private board, say I enjoyed it and thank him. Then he says "I might as well gift you the full thing, only fair after totally trouncing you."

O_O

Faith in humanity at all time high right now.

That said, how is Dr. Mario Wii called in the USA?
The European title is Dr. Mario & Germ Buster, but the board on GameFAQs is called another way, that got me a little confused.

Got today:
-Dr. Mario Online RX
-Family Table Tennis
-Pop

All great in their respective categories, extra points to Famility Table tennis for being so cheap ($5) aand looking so great and being fun and simple too).

So far, have for WiiWare:
-Lost Winds
-Defend your Castle
-My Life as a King: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
-Star Soldier R
-Dr. Mario Online RX
-Family Table Tennis
-Pop
Hmm, how can you have so many games on one Wii?
Did you delete all your Virtual Console games or something?
Maybe some channels you didn't use?

The reason Shantae didn't sell last time was because it came out on a dead handheld, I think there'd be a better sales this time.

Any impressions for Family Table Tennis?

Looks really simple but it could be a cool gave to play with friends once in a while. And I like the art-style although the characters look a little lame.

I have the GBC version (imported to the UK no less) and would buy the new WiiWare version.

Just post massive hand drawn pics of Shantae & Riskyboots and the crew on a site and generate a bit of the old 2D hype for the WiiWare version and release it sooner and 1,000 points or less and you'll do fine.

On a side note i'm waiting for the first Dev to have the balls to release at 200 points for the first level(s) of the game and then sell you the rest by DLC if you like it (the 800 to make it to a non squenix game price). Kind of like a Demo but with all the functions and multiplayer but a fraction of the content.

I'd also love a WiiWare MMO where like GuildWars you buy the extra areas instead of subscribing.
