Bundles of Awesome - The Official WiiWare Discussion Thread

I'm looking forward to MLE.

Online play, eating based weapons, I want to be Joey Chestnut breathing fire at Takeru Kobayashi.

I think its going to be good. And I like the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously.

The developer is Sensory Sweep, and everything they've touched has been complete shit. I'd avoid it.

No, I believe World of Goo was said to be a September or Fall title. Alien Crush Returns looks great, imo! I've wanted to download a pinball game and this looks like the one to get. :D

Whoever came up with the idea of using pinballs to beat aliens is a genius. :D

I just had an idea for a WiiWare game, not sure it deserves it's own thread though so I'll post it here.

Paperboy. You control your bike with the nunchuk and toss the paper using the Wii remote. You could use different tosses (lob, side-arm, underhand) to avoid obstacles in front of the house like bushes, gates, etc. If done right it could be fun.

I know that Paperboy is already on XBLA, any chance that it could be brought to WiiWare with some fun Wii-specific controls?

It looks like Europe will be getting Defend Your Castle this week as it's just appeared on the Nintendo Channel over here (although it has last Friday listed as the release date for some reason).

Checked out the Major League Eating video on the Nintendo Channel this morning. Judging by what I saw, I have a feeling if they sell 10 copies of this game they'll have recouped their development costs.

Is the game neat?

Hey GAF, so i have 3.200 Wii points and i want to use 'em for WiiWare.
Just remember i'm talking about European WiiWare.

What i already got:
Dr. Mario
LostWinds
Pokémon Ranch

What should i get?
Pop, maybe? [hey, it's like 600 points only]
FF: CC?

What i also really want to know is: are there new titles coming out? i don't want to say "should've waited, could've bought this instead" next week.

Thanks.

edit. I don't really want Defend your castle, even if it's coming out soon :P

toki tori and star soldier. pop is nice, but those two are much nicer.

I just watched a video of Toki Tori, it seems so complex :(
I don't know, i didn't like Mario vs. Donkey Kong a lot but i love N+, just to name two puzzle-platformers.

Complex? WTF it's super easy (the controls)

What i mean is there seem to be a lot of items, the levels are complex etc. etc.

But it looks fun, just... maybe not for me :(
Don't you worry about that.
There is a metric ton of levels, grouped into themed worlds. Each world one or two items are introduced. You're eased into using them. Many levels get by with just a very sparse collection of items. I think the most variety I have encountered so far is three or four different items.

The main games' levels are of fairly modest difficulty, although there are some nice challenges strewn about. The real fun starts when you unlock each worlds' hard mode. Expect to rip your hair out in delightful frustration.

The levels can be viewed from a distance to get a better overview, and they're pretty convoluted since that's one of the points of the game: It's a puzzler. You need to get from A to B while using your items in the most efficient manner.

So, don't be put off by the levels or items. Ask yourself: Do I want to sit on this level and try to map out the best/only way how to get all the eggs with x amount of y items? Do I want to feel elated that I finally cracked that tough nut, only to be stumped anew by the next one?

You only get one joker that allows you to skip one level. Use it wisely. :D

1000 for Pirates.
1000 for SPOGS.

SPOGS sucks but what about Pirates? Could be pretty cool in multiplayer. I want to hear more about it first.

Downloaded Toki Tori today. What a refreshing game. Love it.

I also have Lost Winds and Dr. Mario. So far Wii Ware has yet to disappoint me because all three are great.

You mean you still haven't played LostWinds, FFCC, and Toki Tori yet?

Those 3 are definitely the best titles in WiiWare so far.
I thought Lost Winds was pretty much to wiiware what mario world was to the snes...almost everyone should have it.

Speaking of wiiware, (this being the thread and all)whats coming up this week?

Wii-kly Update

One WiiWare Game and Two Virtual Console Games Added to Wii Shop Channel
Which do you prefer: sailing the ocean or soaring through the sky? With the latest additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel, players can choose between seafaring action and high-flying thrills. Unleash your inner pirate with a new WiiWare™ adventure, or check out a pair of side-scrolling Sega Genesis classics making their Virtual Console™ debut. By air and by sea, big fun is on the way.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Pirates: The Key of Dreams (Oxygen Games, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Pirates: The Key of Dreams is a frantic nautical shoot-'em-up. Sail your way across the Caribbean, cannons blazing, looting booty, running blockades and ultimately battling Blackbeard himself. The player takes control of a navy captain sent deep undercover as a ruthless pirate in order to seek out and retrieve the Key of Dreams, a valuable and dangerous cursed artifact. Rescue castaways to bolster your ship's crew, gaining performance increases to your navigation, weaponry, structural integrity and cartography skills. Collect increasingly powerful weaponry including rockets, mines, chain shot, saw blades and a flamethrower to hurl destruction into the path of your enemies. Play against three of your scurvy friends or A.I. opponents in pitched multiplayer battles over 35 levels, set in seven themed environments. Choose from different ship types that reflect your play style. Play in turbo mode if you're pirate enough.

My nephew bought it and he prefers to watch me play than doing it himself (he's 4).

It isn't all that bad but there's not much to do and you will almost never die.

You are a little pretend pirat ship that wants to get some key so you travel to different locations. They all are pretty much the same: water, rocks, other enemies ships throwing cannons at you. There are a small number of weapons like cannons, bombs, etc. You can destroy every enemy ship or just go by but sometimes you'll have to destroy them all so that a door opens. They give you an objective for every mission.

The controls are kinda weird at first. You go forward with B and change direction with the pad so, actually the ship will just spin when you use the pad. It is easy to get stuck for a little while if you go too close to the shore.

There are some powerups, treasure chests and some mission-specific items you have to get.

I don't remember how many missions there are but I think I'm almost done with the game after one session.

Probably not worth the 1000 points. Maybe for younger gamers.

Hey, so, question. My wife is a big Dr. Mario player, and yesterday, somehow, the background while playing that is typically blue got turned yellow. Any ideas how? Are you able to switch between colors? I tried hitting buttons at a few different times, but couldn't figure anything out.
