Even if it's good?
Yes. The lead from Criterion slammed Nintendo hard (somewhat deservedly), shits on any chance of a GC version of B3, but now there is a DS version? Whatever.

DS is selling. Ultimately, I'd imagine that's the motivator.
Yes it is in JP, but Criterions market for this game is definetly the NA market. I just think it's hypocritical, but then it's probably EA's doing. That said, I'm sure Criterion holds some sway as well. (Renderware)

Hey, Alex Ward rules. He is one of my favorite people in the industry, especially since he manage to get me into the Black showing at E3 simply because he remembered me from E3 '04. He didn't have to do that, but he went out of his way to help me out.

As for Criterion's games, I hope they always sell millions of copies. Wait until you all get to see Black, it's outstanding. I have faith that Burnout on the DS will be good, even though I know nothing about it as of now. Criterion just rocks.

Im sure he's a cool guy, but meh to anything he does on Nintendo platforms. It just seems out of place and dumb.

Huh? I thought Criterion were huge Nintendo fans, and that Burnout and Burnout 2 did pretty well on the Cube and I always thought it was pretty odd Burnout 3 never came out on it. Was there some big bust-up?

Where did he shited on any chance of a GC version of B3, most importantly did he specifically said anything why they didnt released a GC version?

They'd focused a lot on the online feature if I remember rightly. They didn't see a point in releasing a version of the game without it.
There was a similar interview with the Timesplitters guys at Free Radical who were equally disappointed.

I'm not expecting any DS game published by EA to be anything other than medicre crap, even if it is Burnout. Innovation is not something EA will force its developers to do nor is EA fond of making games that aren't multiplatform. Expect crap from EA on the DS. Expect crap from EA on the Revolution. Expect crap from EA in general.

Does Ward really hate Nintendo? It seemed like he was trying to make a point of not bringing Burnout 3 to the Gamecube, but has he ever spoken out publicly against them?

The first two Burnouts did quite well on Gamecube didn't they?

Burnout 3: Takedown development started under Acclaim IIRC. Before Acclaim went the way of the dodo, a parting gift to Nintendo was to cut down Gamecube development.

I'm damn near sure I can remember Alex Ward or somebody else referencing online as a reason for not bothering with the port though too.

It's pretty interesting that Alex Ward and Criterion didn't bring Burnout 3 to the GameCube because players wouldn't be able to play the game online. Why? Becaus Burnout 3's online modes are pretty dull. The game's single-player is a differnt story... one of the best arcade racers ever.

It will be interesting what they do with the hardware limitation.
Well, they've done a lot more than I expected them to do with the series on the current gen of systems, so here's hoping!

I talked to some of the Criterion guys at E3 2004 about why no Burnout 3 for the GameCube, and the impression I got from them is that EA didn't want to publish the a GameCube version if it wasn't going to be online. From what I heard Criterion wouldn't have had any problems putting B3 on the GC (and I don't doubt that), but EA wanted online. So no GC version.

It's a shame, really.
