Burnout Legends preview at 1UP

So rather than make new tracks, they're just throwing the new gameplay onto the old games. I already own the old games and can get them for MUCH cheaper than $50.

Nice!

Haven't bought a Burnout game yet. This one looks like a good one to start with! :D

I can't wait to see all the new PSP wares at E3!

Don't buy it then. Trust me when I say there are plenty of people who haven't bought the Burnout games.

I doubt aoi tsuki would know, but would anyone know where I could get a soundtrack of the first two Burnout games? I have it complete for Takedown and I miss that low-time music from the first one.

From what I'm reading, it'll have Burnout 3 style gameplay with all the Burnout 1, 2, and 3 tracks included.

Pics look weird...distorted and filtered oddly. Not digging the need to play multiplayer in order to get all of the unlockable vehicles either. Other than that, its Burnout and I hope to see better media for it soon.

Wow, having not bought a PSP game at $50 yet, i'd be tempted to if it included all that.

What's with tacking Legends onto everything? At least Tombraider Legends could actually have legends involved. Also, when does PSP start getting games to set it apart from PS2? But yeah, this will be cool.

Do you guys read the linked preview at all? :P

I'll highlight some excerpts. This first part confuses me though:

h, your inner road rage maniac with that quick middle-finger and car horn addiction will squeal like a little girl because Criterion Games has announced updated versions for not only Burnout 3, but Burnout 1 & 2 as well. There'll be the same songs and tracks of the first two -- Burnout Legends won't be using the upcoming and much anticipated innovations from Burnout Revenge, but will be more like a "Greatest Hits,"

It says updated versions of 1, 2, 3. But in the next sentence talks about only the first two. Confused.

More preview highlights for the lazy. :D

And the best is what modes we'll get. Burnout Legends will have a heap of new racing modes unique to your PSP, such as Legends Face-off, Grand Prix, and "Pursuit Rage":

he developers haven't disclosed specifics about how many players it will support, but they're encouraging multiplayer pileups over WiFi. Channon says, "We are focusing a lot of time on the multiplayer features, using the PSP's very cool Game Sharing technology. Additionally, we will allow the user to create their own WiFi custom mini championships and have a car capture feature where the only way the user can collect all the cars for the game will be through WiFi challenges."

When you start playing Burnout Legends, you'll be hit with that new car smell because there'll be an estimated 25 new rides, including about six cop cars, for each Burnout version in Legends. There'll be roughly five unlockable in single-player; however, to get the other 20 or so vehicles, you'll only be given the keys to 'em through multiplayer with your friends/enemies on the road.

As anyone who's played Burnout can tell you," says Criterion creative director Alex Ward, "a quick 30 second crash junction can be just as satisfying as a two-hour multiplayer session -- and that's the hallmark of a perfect PSP game." And there'll be a helluva lot of crash junctions -- the count so far is up 70 to 80 crash junctions in the game.

You should know that most of us on GAF don't read :lol

The second sentence is about the music and the 1st two games had all originally composed music, while the 3rd game had licensed EA Trax music. So it almost sounds like they are haphazardly saying that Legends will return to originally composed music rather than EA Trax which, to me, is the best thing they could be doing, if true.

I shudder to think about what kind of graphics these guys could do if only Sony would let the PSP run at full speed.

MORE RACING GAMES! MORE! DON'T STOP! YES! HARDER, HARDER! AAAAAAAAGGH!!

Man...those sparks really get me. Sorry guys, didn't mean to make a mess. :p

I was impressed that Criterion pulled this one off in less than a year's time.

Renderware loves PSP, apparently. :)

looks very good

now i already own burnout 3 so I don't think that I'll buy the same game (or some kind of remix) twice

I have concerns.... about how playable BO:L at speed is going to be on the PSP... the article really made it seems like they were still early in the development stage, alot of the writeup was more towards...we'll try to do this, and we'll try to do that... Is this suppose to be shown at E3? IS there a release date?

Wow, those are some really impressive shots. I saw one of them in that NFSU2-DS thread and just assumed it was a re-sized console pic...but that doesn't seem to be the case (the console versions are even more detailed, for one thing). I wonder if they were allowed to use the full potential of the PSP yet? If they can pull off those visuals at 60 fps, I will stunned.

Hopefully E3 has some interesting PSP titles lined up for us. After seeing this, I'm very curious to see just what the PSP can REALLY do.

OPM said it looked amazing and was quite fast, although not yet quite as fast as the console versions. I bet they're trying to get it up to speed, we'll see...

Sad, but has to be asked. What's the battery life going to be like? Sony did mention that all games from now on will be allowed to run at full clock, but is a shorter playtime than ridge racer really acceptable? Hard push on graphics with a focus on wifi multiplayer == 2 hours of blood pumping action followed by however many tethered to a wall outlet? =/
