The motion blur looks AWFUL in those screenshots, but maybe it works in motion.

Criterion knows how to push systems to the limit. Is this the best 3D the DS can offer?

I take it that blankish blue bit at the bottom is the second touchscreen, if so oh my, what a clusterfuck! - Maps I can understand, but 4 arrows and an icon, thats some newage refreshing gaming shit right there folks.

(Digs out a piece of blue card with arrows scrawled on it to pretend he too is enjoying the new, revolutionized gaming landscape).

:lol

I don't think Criterion is handling the DS version.

Yes, these screenshots look bad.

That's the Aftertouch mode. In the console/PSP version the four arrows appear as a small icon on the screen.

its not top tier, but I thin the grpahics are decent. As long as its fun i dont care.

Its certainly not crappy looking, like say, lunar.

I still havent picked up Legends on PSP yet. I'm more interested in Revenge on the home consoles than that version of the game or this one to be honest, but looking at this objectively I'm quite impressed so far. You can tell they've got some kind of motion blur going on, and after-touch quite aptly utilising the touch-pad.

Already though I can tell we're going to fall into the same "it looks good" vs "it looks crap" vs "looks good for ds", DS VS PSP kinda stuff aren't we?

Few things to consider:

1) Not everyone who owns a DS owns a PSP
2) Said people might not want or have the means to buy a PSP
3) Yes it looks worse than a PSP game, it looks good for a DS game.
4) Lack of texture filtering does not preclude people from having fun with it.
5) Obviously the game content is different, if only aesthetically. But the game might also have different or additional track/crash/whatever content when compared with Legends PSP

Its not impossible that people might wanna own it. I wanna see more..

<Zeo> FUCK GUYS WE GET IT, DS is not a PSP! Everyone shut the fuck up and accept incredibly atrocious 3D visuals because of the limitations of the hardware! Looks attractive for the platform, pixels the size of your head, lack of texture filtering, terrible image quality aside! I for one can't wait to see what INNOVATIVE™ uses the Burnout crew can make for DS! I mean, Aftertouch! It has TOUCH in it! It was practically made with DS in mind!

And thats all they need, I mean come on, you cant defend that shit, it's indefensible, can you imagine Nintendos reaction when they saw it, I can.

EA: Here you go, Burnout Legends DS, Teh Awesomeness!
Nin: I take it you added 2nd screen support, and made a newage refreshing gaming experience for us?
EA: Ooooh yes... *looks for exit*
Nin: Lets see...
*Nin exec plays for 5 mins*
Nin: What the motherfucking motherfuck do you call THAT kind of utilisation? They'll LAUGH damn it!
Nin: Huh? Where'd he go?
Sony: Pwned!

I think the atrocious and uninspired use of the second screen made more of a negative impact than any sort of graphical deficiency. That's the definition of "mailing it in."

I love the Burnout series:
1) I'm in this category
2) I'm not getting a PSP yet.
3) It looks alright
4) That is true
5) That is also true

Bottom line, I wouldn't touch this game with a six foot pole. I'll stick to the console versions for now :)

I think there IS a map on the second screen during the gameplay but it switches to aftertouch screen when it's in crash mode. The worst use of a second screen goes to Marvel Nemesis DS. You should see it.

I don't so much mind when DS games have poor graphics (in comparison to PSP versions), what I hate is unimaginative or clumsy use of the touch screen. The DS has shoulder buttons which would work far better for Aftertouch control.

So the next obvious question is what do you think they should use the second screen for? What innovative way does Mario Kart use the screen? What about other racers?

If DS was more powerful, I think it'd be awesome if the bottom screen could provide a 'behind your car' view like if you were looking in your mirror. But I suspect that might be difficult to pull off with a stable framerate and anywhere near workable 3D on the current hardware.

Needs to be online for my Purchase... Another vanilla DS Racer *sigh*

Um, am I missing something or wouldn't just using the d-pad work far better, considering that every other version basically does it this way (perfectly effectively, I might add)

For this kind of game it doesnt really matter WHAT is on the second screen. Why would it matter? Why should it even have to use the touch interface in an interesting/unique fashion? Do you feel the same way about the DS' microphone?

The use of the touch-pad for aftertouch totally makes sense in the context of this game. It isnt actually a bad idea compared to say Nitros in NFSU DS. I'm betting the D-pad controls it as well anyway if you dont want to use it.

One thing I think would have been good for this franchise though is additions to the crash mode that use the touch screen:

The game gives you empty track(s) completely devoid of cars. A normal race track. You use a sort of level editor to choose an area of the track to use as a crash site, you place a player-starting-point, and then you go about setting cars and trucks in strategic locations. You set a target score for players to shoot for and then you trade this new track data as a level wirelessly with friends (or you could even try it out online).

Or what if you could play those kind of modes with other players at the same time? The level starts up and each of you are given different objectives. Avoid being taken out vs Cause as much carnage as possible. One drives dangerously, the other is in a repeated assault on both the player and surrounding traffic to take them out... once they've done it, the roles swap over. Player(s) with the best stats win.

I know I saw that! I was like holy shit! Then I thought about it and felt I'll sort of miss his hilarious thinly-veiled fanboy posts for the duration of the ban :(
