..is he drunk?

He seems waaaaaaay drunk.

WOW. He went off on a tangent about Iran after being asked about Palestine.

He simply stopped talking now.

WOW.

Now he's grinning and he turned bright red.

Now Olmert is telling him that he's very brave and principled. Fawningly. Wow. What a trainwreck.

Basically, the press asked him: Why is there not three way meeting with you, Israel and the Palestinian leadership?

Bush: "Iran went crazy with their boats. The shouldn't have!" Interspersed with really long pauses."

I don't even put myself though the grief anymore, I haven't heard a sizable amount of a Bush speech for a while now.

I can feel my brain cells comitting suicide when I hear that guy talk. I haven't heard a Bush "speech" since his last inaugaration.

I don't know what's worse, Bush's speech or the staff at Columbia making a trip to iran to apologize to their president

I take some of that back. He had no idea what to say about Iran, but technically Olmert dodged the three way question, not Bush.

Thank you Tivo.

this is crazy!

I'm listening to a candid conversation streamed live from the room where bush was speaking.

mms://msnbc.wm.llnwd.net/msnbc_1_live_8824

They put up a "This Live Video Event Has Concluded" screen up, but the audio is still streaming! :D :D

that would be the degenerative brain condition I'm certain he has, giving him trouble.

It was a young girl and a guy, the girl was saying that somebody had a "typical face", and was mocking some recent speech. I didn't catch any names. Pretty neat though. They had no idea their voices for those minutes were accessible to anyone in the world. Anything so publicly candid like that is incredible to me.

I was wondering this too :lol

He was grinning at someone out the side of the podium, sort of like he was sharing a private joke with someone. Then Olmert started talking about "when you stand here" and lauding him, and he was just shrugging his shoulders like it was nothing - then Olmert starts talking about the position he was in putting his men and women in uniform into battle, and you could see it flash across Bush's face that maybe he should be a bit more serious about this, and not just shrugging it off..

Of all the things you can complain about Bush, why continue to focus on his human slips during speeches?

Cuz he's supposed to represent our country? And comes off as a smarmy idiot? Still, you have a point. We shouldn't really care what the fuck he's saying anymore.

My favorite thing to do is to watch Bush's press conferences on boring stuff like the housing industry and bank loans and stuff like that... and then imagine all of the people that call him an idiot also watching and having no idea what he's talking about. Because most of them wouldn't. The man runs an entire country and people think he's an idiot because he's not the best public speaker ever and because they read in an e-mail that he has the lowest IQ of any president (hint: don't believe everything you read in a forwarded email).

It wasn't really anything about what he was saying here, while I was watching him..Olmert was talking in the bit I saw. It was just how he was carrying himself, he just couldn't stand still and look serious at all...

..not that it really matters anymore. It'll all be over soon..!

But seriously, have we ever had a president in the modern day era who seemed more intellectually challenged than Bush Jr?

But not before Junior has his tussle with E-raq.

I agree with you that it's a minor thing in comparison, but why SHOULDN'T we expect to have an educated man represent us? It has nothing to do with policy, but just common sense. The person with the singular greatest power in the nation and maybe the world should be able to communicate effectively and have a better than average command of grammar, no?

Were you paying attention to the news conference or maybe you are the one drunk? It was a two part question.

First part, ask Bush about what his security adviser means by serious consequences if Iran does it again regarding recent boat incident.

Second part, was for Olmert about why there was no three way meeting.

I could see this. I saw some video of him when was Governor and I couldn't believe it was the same person. He was talking quickly and clearly with no stuttering and was just on the fucking ball. I was like "WTF?"

I would argue that Bill Clinton's conduct while in the White House was a much clearer example of someone being intellectually challenged. At least a lot clearer than Bush Junior not being a great public speaker.

And Bush Senior, having taken office in 1989, was not subjected to even a tenth the scrutiny that Bush Junior has had.

Welcome to the 21st century, where someone's every word, every sylllable can and will be criticized and held against them.

You know, it's funny: intelligent people have always been known for their poor communication skills, and yet, that fact has always been overlooked when it comes to Bush.

Get off yer high horses, folks; he's a bad public speaker, but he didn't become President of the United States twice by being an idiot.

When you're the president of the country, every word should be thoroughly examined and criticized. It's not our job as citizens to give the man in charge a free pass or to make it an easy and pleasant experience, and I don't understand the contempt from some when we don't.

Also, when much (if not all) of what a president says in a speech is highly scripted, that's even more of a reason for the public to scrutinize it.
You know, it's funny: intelligent people have always been known for their poor communication skills, and yet, that fact has always been overlooked when it comes to Bush.
The man's no Einstein, so let's not go there. He's been given given 8 years to exhibit this intelligence that you're claiming he possesses, and look where that's gotten us. He's a stubborn dolt.

Ummmm...what? Do you have a source for that claim?

No, he became President of the United States by the United States public being idiots and then the second time by the Democratic Party being idiots.

I agree completely that everything the President says should be examined and criticized. But the important part is what he's saying, the issues that he's speaking on, not the fact that he trips over words.

This man speaks the truth.

Don't forget Elmer Fudd either. I mean, sure, he never actually caught Bugs, but he always came mighty close. A for effort, I'd say.

Besides Steven Hawking, can you name one? I really don't agree with this statement.

No, he got elected twice by a broken form of democracy where the guy getting less votes can win and idiots voting for him.

Making fun of his poor communication skills is just a side bar . . . it generally just as easy to make fun of the stupid things he says.

Is this really our next big fear:

I think he's refering to socially inept people and those with disorders like Autism. Of course Bush clearly doesn't have either of these or he wouldn't have been able to go work in politics

Yes, autism is an example of the extreme end, but it's generally regarded that it's a gradual trade-off (not always or in every situation, of course).

that Middle East Peace summit, one of the Biggest Jokes of this administration
