The Legend of BorkBork: BorkBorkity Borking
This is going to get interesting...

Some fun Quotes

Bush told a news conference that Wolfowitz, now Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's top deputy, was "a compassionate, decent man who will do a fine job at the World Bank. That's why I put him up.

How do you F*ck up royally and get recommended for the HEAD of the WORLD BANK?!

My mind boggles..

nope, not joking, I didn't think much of him earlier, but now admire his zeal and being able to push his policies successfully even after all the trashing he gets...

I guess you missed the huge toga party in honor of what looks to be a failure for Bush and Co. on the SS front?

If it ends up dead, we're all in for failure. Even though we all know SS needs a change, let's just shit on Bush because he's a conservative. Anything to keep the AARP on board!

While we're at it, let's make sure school vouchers don't pass through so black kids have to go to horrible inner city schools! Anything to keep the teacher's associations on board!

Where are the so-called progressive thinkers on this one?

I'm all for coming up with a solution to the very far-off SS crisis... it's just that what little was known of Bush's plan sucked (guttin guaranteed benefits).

And how about we don't allow vouchers a pass because it's the inner city schools that need funding and improvement.

"Look everyone, public schools suck, we can't fix it, here's your ticket outta there!" Government should not be saying that.

First John Bolton for ambassador to the UN, now this? Interesting tactics... putting the idealogically driven cronies in these strategic positions of power. Scary stuff.

Fair enough, but what are we supposed to do? Throw more money at it? We spend more than ever on education and it hasn't paid off. Vouchers is just, IMHO, the only idea we can't seem to even test, since the NEA is so deadfast against it...

I figure I've done my part in bringing a little conservatism to this thread... that was really my only intention... the liberal love fest gets a little too thick sometimes... just see the ANWR thread! yeesh...

It sounds like the short definition of "echo chamber" to me.

Yeah, he was real good. Especially the line of thought after 9/11 that the US should invade Iraq before Afghanistan because "We need a successful model." How did Wolfowitz propose to topple Iraq?

About 10,000 troops. "Once we secure the oil fields and borders, the people will rise up. We won't have to do anything."

Top notch material right there. But hey, at least his policies aren't met with much friction from his ideologically like-minded counterparts.

Aww, this isn't nearly as funny or apt as putting someone like Bolton in as the UN ambassador...but even though I disagree with Wolfowitz's beliefs he doesn't strike me as being as, well, sinister (hyperbole) as a Richard Perle, say.

He does have that unfortunate resemblance to a velociraptor, however...and I'm sure certain quarters will use this to bolster their theories of a nefarious Jewish-Israeli hand behind all U.S. foreign policy. After all, Wolfowitz is a banker now! I can't wait to see what the likes of Adbusters make of this.

Hmmm, interesting theory. So I guess it doesn't matter what the policies are, or how much of failures they end up being, all that matters is that the person got his way through dedication and hard work.

I also, for this reason, admire Kim Jong Il, Sadaam, and hell, even Hitler. I really didn't like them when they were lowly dictatorial wannabies, but they pushed them policies hard *even* when everyone was trashing them, and succeeded. My hat goes off to them.

I don't think we'll be able to fully measure the results of his policies for many years to come, but so far I like the world more now and feel there has been progress in what I'd consider a more or less 50-year haul towards getting a settling peace between Western culture and parts of the Middle-East that threaten security and safety for the US and Europe...

Guys, guys... lay off Efralope. Sure he's so slackjawed he can barely remember to breathe sometimes, but this time he's right.

That's right! Wolfowitz will be great as the director of an organization that, in concert with the IMF, works to simultaneously saddle third world countries with unreasonable debt and open them up to nefarious corporations. Why, it's a job the creepy little fuck was practically born for!

It's funny how conservatives trot out negros when defending policy that adversely affects the black community. It's like a Saturday Night Live skit.

It's funny how the left spits in their faces and takes the black vote for granted... wait, no it's not, it's pathetic...

You're so right. The Right's tactic of systematically disenfranchising blacks is a far preferrable tactic.

FYI, Futami and I aren't your classic "leftists". We both find the Democratic party to be comprised of unctuous, apologistic toads that would sell their own mothers for a chance to be President... well, at least I do. I know ol' Futami isn't real fond of the majority of Democrats either. The point is, that hardly excuses the vile nature of the Neo-Conservative Hegemony that has captured all levels of power in this country.

There's no denying that we won't be able to fully measure the results of the Bush administration's policies for some time, but we can certainly measure the short-term results of them, which have been anything but promising on the whole. Moreover, even if stability comes to the Middle East as a the long result of the actions begun by this administration, that doesn't justify what is widely viewed as an illegal and illegitimate war against Iraq nor the other laundry list of shortsighted ramifications of the administration's actions. Bush is an ambitious president to be sure, and I don't necessarily disagree with many of his long-term goals, but his methods in pursuing them are often narrow, shortsighted, and obstinate. I'm surprised you feel safer though, but then I can only imagine people that say such things don't travel much, particularly out of the country.

PotatoeMasher: As for the liberal bias of the forum, Bush is a particularly conservative president; factor in that younger people tend to be more liberal, and it makes sense. But I wouldn't go denouncing everyone who isn't a (neo)conservative as some giant wad dubbed the "left" where we all share the same policies and viewpoints either.
