I had no idea this movie would suck. I had heard so many good things about it, but god damn it's a bit ridiculous eh? First off, its a sad musical. So it starts off as an oxymoron and I don't know if it can ever get over that. And because of this oxymoron I can't be entertained by the song and dance bits, because I know something bad is about to happen.

Then there's the problem that half the actors act retarded, but I don't know if they are actually SUPPOSED to be retarded.

Worst of all, and this is where I just gave up:
She doesn't have to kill the guy! She doesn't even need to shoot him! All she has to do is explainwhy he's doing it and the bank records would back up her story. Am I supposed to believe she's afraid of him telling people she's blind? Well guess what, a murder investigation will figure that part out pretty quick! It's like a loony tunes cartoon, and daffy duck is about to be pointlessly stupid, it blows up in his face and then starts bugs bjork bunny singing and dancing.

Ugh. Why have you done me wrong Bjork?

Moulin Rouge is a sad musical, and it fucking rocks.

I enjoyed the music in Dancer in the Dark, and some other aspects of it, but overall the movie is too bleak for me (especially the ending) that I don't think I'll ever want to watch it again (I saw it twice).

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Bjork was amazing in that role.

Oh, I liked Bjork in the film. I think she did a good job in the movie, but the lack of common sense in the film gave me a headache. Plus, all the poorly shot dance scenes, documentary style camera and occasional blandness that all disconnected me emotionally from the movie.

So you didn't watch the rest of it?

I kept watching it, unfortunately.

Moulin Rouge is a sad musical, and it fucking rocks.

I never thought of Moulin Rouge as extremelyy sad. At least not as sad as this one is supposed to be.

Finally, somebody who agrees that Dancer in the Dark was about as crappy as they get.

I love the bit in court how she keeps that bullshit promise she made to the cop and doesn't explain the money situation, or her blindness, or anything, really. Does her lawyer even say anything? FFS, The whole court scene was insulting.

I liked it a lot. Different strokes for different folks. If you're focusing on it for how realistic it is, there's no chance you'll like it. It's not a fucking formulaic thriller or even drama for that matter; it plays fast with a lot of things, but imo that's what makes it great.

Dancer in the Dark is an extremely tragic film filled with characters that at every turn break you heart or make you so angry, especially Selma. But in the end you understand why, to help protect those that she loves and to maintain her sense of pride. Definetely one of the best movies ever made and one of the best stories ever told.
