I want a rule against posting needless pictures of game boxes. It'll never happen, but a man can dream.

yeah, there was talk about not taking pics of stuff worth less than $10 or crazy plentiful ("HERE'S GTA IV PICS I TOOK"), i wanna say. some guys thumbnail it, some just hyperlink to pics, both groups are better people.

I think a lot of the ire around the constant reposts is for the posts with a bunch of pictures. It's just annoying to see the same pictures... every day... on every page... for months.

A picture of a gamebox is 100% useless to me, unless it's a rare game. If you list the name of the game, why do you need to post a picture of the box? Some might say, "well, it proves you own the game", but it's so easy to get a picture of a game box on the internet. Doesn't prove anything.

Also have have to bring up my suggestions again.

-6-12 hours wait rather than waiting every 150 post. Not everyone uses the 100 post per page view. Mine is on default. 6-12 hours before you can repost your items though you can edit the original. Also, once reposted the previous post should be edited if was heavy on images and text.

-Image amount and size limit along with maybe a text limit. Something basic like 3-5 images no bigger than 640x420. The less images the bigger they can be but no bigger than 1024x768. Also no wall of text which could maybe better enforced by may limiting the amount of items you can have for sale at given time to maybe 1-10 items.

-Adopt Heatware and and abandon the Google document so we can cleary check and leave feedback rather than cluttering the thread. I doubt any of is really checks it. We can also link Heatware right under our posts for easy view. We can get NeoGaf added to the system there.

I will be in favor of all the suggestions though but it should have been more open with suggestions before the two of you made them so concrete.

... Hell, I don't know what question a picture of a game box answers, ever, unless it's a special edition or something rare. Just imagine if everyone posted a picture for every item they ever wanted to sell. It'd just be annoying to have to scroll through the same pictures every day. If you really think a picture answers all these questions, then just include a link to a picture.

Okay, you don't like game boxes. Wonderful. You've established that clearly and it's on the record for all of B/S/T to know about. I'm sure there are people that like to see what they're purchasing as well.

___________

Moving on, what is the solution? We are no closer to one than now than when all of this started.

There is no solution. Nobody wants to buy your game. Deal with it.

I've bought plenty of games from people who posted no pics. Why? Because I wanted that game. I know they clearly own it.

I meant overall. Do we ban pics altogether? Text links only?

6-12 hour wait? That would make things far, far worse. 4 times a day, posting a wall of pictures of game boxes that someone is selling for $5 just seems like a bad idea.

Pics should be links!

Pics for unique items (i.e. "rare games; special editions", "electronics").

If anyone is interested they can try to find more info via google.

IMO, of course.

Well maybe 24 hours. I'm just against that 150 post think as I'm on default and dont want to change it.

I dont agree at all about pictures. Many I think would rather see whats for sale than read a wall of text. I think it does get out of hand and maybe grouping things together should be suggested or limiting the amount but to get rid of them? No way, not even for cheap items. And I dont want to receive of send emails for pictures.

Size of the pics needs to be agreed upon.
It has to be small thumbnails that can be clicked.

I hate scrolling through big and medium sized pictures.

Guys, let's just vote on these guidelines first so we can go ahead, establish them and have them enforced or not. If we keep adding things onto it, we'll never get done.

We could revisit picture sizes in, say, three months or so. It'd also give us an opportunity to evaluate what's happened and review it should these guidelines be established.

Everyone has a voice and some good ideas are coming out. We shouldn't vote based solely on your ideas for the thread.

While I understand people not having an issue with things like eBay links I feel it cheapens the point of the B/S/T thread in the sense that none of the non ebay posts are are saying "Hey dudes I've got X game for same, start making some offers and whoever offered the most by X time gets it! Just an example but I feel like the point still stands.

Also on the issue of "make me an offer", you know what your game is worth, what is so hard about listing a price and then on top of that saying something like "but feel free to shoot me an offer worst I can say is no". I'm one of the people that just skips over posts without prices, I feel like it's wasting my time.

Lastly I don't have a problem with long posts or posts with pictures (provided they're of appropriate size), what I do have a problem with is lazy list posts that don't remove sold items. I mean really what is the point of taking the effort to slash through or bold an item just to tell people it's no longer available... instead of doing that just I dunno, edit it out? Guess that's too hard for some.

You know, I'm getting beyond sick of your fucking bullshit in this thread and the other thread. That's not what I was getting at and you know it. The only reason you want to keep doing this is to add more and more things to vote on to prevent this from being finished so it doesn't affect you. That's it. We all know you don't want this to go through. You need to quit trying to take shots at me every fucking chance you get.

And we're not voting solely on my ideas. If we were, we wouldn't have people suggesting 100 posts instead of 150.

Yes to all 3 except a modification to #1. feel like the reposting of ones shop would be better set at either 100 or 200 instead of 150.

EDIT: so who is going to run the new B/S/T thread if crisis is out?

Okay, I'm just going to help put the foot down on this and clarify a few things.

A. NeoGAF is not responsible or liable for fraud, misunderstandings, fuck-ups, or whatever that arises from a transaction between individuals made in a buy/sell/trade thread. We can sanction moderation guidelines on how the thread should proceeed, but do not take that as a sign that we are endorsing or insuring against something going wrong with a sale. Buy at your own risk, if you have a bad experience share it so others will know about it. If someone is a serious problem seller or a scumbag who's deliberately ripping people off, contact a mod to deal with the issue. How we can deal with such a person is also limited, so keep that in mind.

B. With regards to the first point in this thread, it seems that most people are okay with the idea of someone not spamming a sale over and over again in short periods of time. Hence if someone does spam a bit too often, tell him to stop. If he doesn't stop, PM a mod, and it will be handled as a case of spamming.

C. The Buy/Sell/Trade thread is meant for the community on this forum to buy/sell/trade within the community. It is not a thread for people to promote off-site sales or auctions. If you choose to sell or auction your stuff on a public site elsewhere, that's your decision. Do not spam those things back into this thread. There's a specific function for the thread and linking to your auctions is not that function.

D. Unless goods are stolen/pirated/whatever or otherwise illegal in nature, do not bitch about how much someone is asking for a product. Don't like it? Don't buy it. It's pretty simple. If someone is overcharging, and everyone knows it, odds are it won't sell. No need to pile on someone for a transaction you disagree with based solely on the price tag.

I think that wraps things up. Hope I didn't miss anything.

You all do whatever the fuck you want. I'm not dealing with you all anymore.

Crisis, I didn't want to bring this up in the b/s/t thread but you're a real asshole for deleting the feedback list. I understand not wanting to deal with it anymore but there are lots of people who spent a long time trying to build a rep in that thread and it's not right of you to undermine what they've done. You chose to shepherd the list. It was your responsibility to let someone take over in your stead. You've betrayed everyone who has made transactions in that thread and done nothing to hurt xaosslug.

No one needs to 'run' it. That's the whole point. Crisis thinks we're in such big trouble because he isn't 'running' it anymore.

All we do is just B/S/T as usual. That's all. Who cares what tirade he is on?

I don't think you're in trouble at all, nor did I think or say that I was running it. God damn, some of you are really fucking stupid. All I did was take my list offline and told all of you to fuck yourselves. This is the kind of shit I was talking about. Apparently, none of you want quote things I've actually said versus things you want everyone to think I said.

All the time, baby.

You did say that through your actions. You did a service for the NeoGaf community when you made the list. You destroyed the list and tried to prevent it from being used again which means you think it's YOUR list. You think you're running it. You were MAINTAINING it. It's not your list. You made it for the community and now it belongs to the community. If you choose to leave then get the fuck out. We keep the list.
