Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

ordered Sat. morning still no shipping confirmation...in fact the funds have been released back to my credit card

Called Samsung and they said my order is still intact

Called AGS today, they did not have my phone number(i know a shocker based upon all other reports), the west coast office opens in 40mins so I need to call them then to set up a delivery time.

Excited

My ks8000 is out for delivery !!!! We made it boys !

I ordered saturday morning. Got the shipping email last night but its coming from pa and i live in ny woowoooooooo

What did they say when you called yesterday?

They were able to look up what they called "snapshot" from when I ordered to see how many were in stock at that point.

They confirmed that when I ordered there were plenty of available units and that I should have a notice within 48hours, I got the shipment notice about 8hours later.

I tried calling that number after I got home from work but it was too late. Said normal business hours were something like 9AM to 6 PM eastern time. I am going to try calling back on my lunch hour. I called about 5:15PM central time yesterday.

I received my 65" KS8000 yesterday morning. I had taken the day off because the delivery window was 1-5 pm and they won't budge. I tested Gears 4 and Forza Horizon on the XBOX One S for HDR. The TV tells you when an HDR source is playing with a notification at the top of the screen. It does this for Forza, but does not do it for Gears. Despite that, Gears actually have a nifty feature which splits the screen in real time and shows you half hdr and half non hdr. So it's working, but for some reason the TV doesn't notify you.

I tried Netflix and Amazon Prime now thru the TV apps to test 4K hdr. Once again, Marco Polo triggers the HDR notification but Daredevil did not. Neither did chef's table. The image quality of these was phenomenal. Amazon looks just as good, but again I couldn't get the hdr notification.

Lastly I played Gears at 4K from my PC. This was a revelation, I was able to keep the framerate above 30 at 4k and I actually switched from the Xbox version to the PC to see all the differences. It's night and day, with everything high and texture stuff on ultra, it looks amazing on this tv. And even though the PC version doesn't do HDR, the colors still pop with dynamic mode via the picture menu.

I'm debating whether to keep that ps4 pro pre order now. I tested some pc games at 1440 and let the tv scale them, and there was alot of softness in the distance. I'm thinking that the games that aren't native on the pro (most of them) or checkerboarding, are still going to look soft on this tv. Games like titanfall at 1440 scaling up will definitely not look their best on this tv unfortunately. At this size, and with how the tv brings out the best or worst out of the source material, these ps4 pro games that are doing the basic scaling are gonna get exposed.

What's the solution for a receiver without HDR passthrough? A new receiver can't be my only option here.

Three choices - all compromises

1) Connect through receiver - don't get HDR
2) connect direct to TV and run optical out from TV to receiver. Lose PCM or lossless audio and limited to DD/DT5.1 compressed
3) same as (2) but use a HDMI to connect from the ARC socket on the TV back to the receiver. This can also be your main connection to the receiver for switching other sources. Also limited to compressed 5.1

I'm just going straight to the TV for now.

Might pick something new up at some point, or might pick up a bargain second hand.

I only have a Sony STR DH820 though so hardly top of the line stuff. I'd only replace it with something similar like the DN860 which is currently £329 at Richersounds or £370 at amazon. Oddly, Amazon are doing the 1060 for £350. Hmmmm. EDIt: Never mind, neither pass HDR.

Just seen that my DH820 amp is still selling used on ebaty for £125 to £150. Interesting.

Do they make smaller HDR 4K TVs?

Or is 40" the smallest? I want a 4K TV for the Bedroom since I already have a 60" in the living room.

I disagree completely, 1440p games on PC look incredible on this tv. There is a drastic difference in clarity and sharpness compared to 1080p.

Well of course, compared to 1080p there is a difference, but the drastic difference to me comes from 1440p to 4k. The foreground is fine, but detail was lost in the distance in all the games I tested. Nothing compares to native.

Called and they said the KS8000 55" was backordered until Nov 13th. (Ordered Saturday around noon)

I'm in no rush so I'm not even mad.

I just called and got the exact same thing. They said they are getting more in on the 13th and mine will ship on Monday. I also ordered Saturday morning. But at least I feel better now knowing that nothing is wrong with the order.

Lots of people ordering after me are getting theirs first, jealous! Mine has been 3 miles away for three days while they sit on it and constantly change third party shipping. Supposed to have it delivered today anytime now, but have not heard a peep from them.

Looks like I'm going to wait a bit longer for an HDR receiver. Not many around and none in my blissfully ignorant £350 ish price range.

Fortunately the only thing I have right now is the Pro to worry about.

I finally got shipping notification for my 60" KS8000...and by that I mean I kept checking the AGS and FedEx sites with my order number as reference. Yesterday I did a chat with Samsung customer service and they said my tv would be shipped in 7-10 days because it was backordered. It shipped yesterday with AGS but says I won't get it until Tuesday on their site. TV was ordered on Saturday about 1 PST.

Same thing here except their page hasn't updated with an estimated delivery date yet.

I called Samsung and was also told the 55" was back ordered and that more would be in stock on the 13th. He said it would then ship 3-5 business days later so it may be a couple of weeks before we get them.

Speaking of receivers, here's mine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007R8U5VM/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I'm going to have the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S connected directly to the TV, while the receiver (and any non-4K devices I decide to connect to it) will be directly connected to the TV for audio purposes.

Will I need a compliant HDMI cable for the receiver or anything? Or will it work just fine for proper audio?

So I know this is for 4k TVs, and I just got my KS8000 yesterday. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a not super expensive but decent soundbar I could use with it?

Ordered my 55" KS8000 on Saturday night. Just got delivered by OnTrac 20 minutes ago :o

I'm surprised it got here so fast. When I called Samsung on Monday it sure sounded like I'd be waiting for a while. Thought I was going to have 4K/HDR (PS4 Pro) content before I had the display. Turns out it's the opposite (until tomorrow).

Oh, also, I think I have all my invites to EPP if they still work. Thought I skimmed something saying they killed the program.
