Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Ordered my 55" KS8000 on Saturday night. Just got delivered by OnTrac 20 minutes ago :o

I'm surprised it got here so fast. When I called Samsung on Monday it sure sounded like I'd be waiting for a while. Thought I was going to have 4K/HDR (PS4 Pro) content before I had the display. Turns out it's the opposite (until tomorrow).

Oh, also, I think I have all my invites to EPP if they still work. Thought I skimmed something saying they killed the program.

When did you order? And do you mind if I ask what state/region you live in?

I can't get over this gif lol

Just had my damaged Samsung KS8000 picked up by Fedex. Now the waiting game for the refund to kick in. Shouldn't be that long considering the place it is getting sent back to is also in CA. :/

What a ride this TV order has been.

Placed order.
Few days later, went drinking. Decided I didn't need a new TV.
Send cancellation email.
Sober up, realize my mistake. Send disregard cancellation email.
Call next business morning assuring order is wanted, rep tells me we're cool. Won't be cancelled.
Get email later that evening, order has been cancelled.
Call rep, nothing she can do.
Day later, get shipping confirmation.

Lol, wow.

Just received the 55KS8000 early this afternoon, about to unbox it now! I didnt expect it to come this fast considering I ordered at 2am Saturday. The odd thing is the money is back in my account so I thought they cancelled my order. Weird

Lmao Nah Jk. I'm glad TV's are starting to pop up. There's still hope that it will come this week!

I got my email confirmation at ~8 p.m. PDT (CA), so I think I submitted the order an hour or two prior. Just got standard shipping as well. Nice surprise. I honestly thought the order might get canceled as a price mistake or something :D

Product has yet to be tendered to OnTrac. This deal was a steal, but I would not really order from Samsung again. Several different shippers, zero consistent communication. Pathetic.

Don't worry though, they'll call me back in 1 to 5 business days.

Here's the side view, literally bent at a 5 degree angle. I lined the base of it up with my phones grid.

Edit: Been badgering them on the phone, sounds like the only thing that can happen from here is they send in a tech (god knows when) and they evaluate it.

Double Edit: Can't help but laugh and resist the urge to call them and tell them they sent me the curved model on accident.

My KS8000 came in today and so far so good. I only tried out my Xbox One and a few games. Haven't tried out my PS4 and I have nothing that is 4k until I get the PS4 Pro. The screen is a bit dark and I don't know what settings are best for the Xbone (and other consoles) but I'll figure that out later on.

Unfortunately, the tv is too big for my current tv stand so it looks like I'll have to get a new stand. ah well (I have no intention of wall mounting so that's not an option at the moment)

was the box damaged at all? even alittle bit.

man that's some buuuuuuuuuuuuuuullshit.

There is a big dent in the bottom (looks like someone tried to use a lift and didn't quite get under it). But the cracks are along the top not the bottom. You can see from the picture above, thing was just straight up bent, not dropped, cracked or punctured. Not even sure how that happens.

Whoa, I thought I had bad luck. My TV ended up coming damaged as well.
It got delivered yesterday and picked up today to be returned. Refund should take like 10
business days.

Called AGS and they didn't even have my phone number to schedule a delivery. I am filled with regret all of a sudden.

Well, even though I was told on the phone that my TV is not going to ship until Monday, I just got my shipping notice!! Shipped via AGS. Home stretch!!

Wow, are you not exchanging it? How did you go about getting them to come in so quickly? The deal is still too good to pass up; but I'm seriously considering going Brick & Mortar so I don't have to deal with shipping.

I'm just extremely bummed. Been rough at work, the election has had me in a daze, and now this when all I wanted was to chill out with the PS Pro this weekend. It might be worth the couple hundred extra to save the headache and have the instant gratification.

Okay I need a little help and I feel dumb because I can't figure this out. So there is a cover on the port for my power cord and it doesn't seem to want to move out of the way no matter what I do. Has anyone had this issue on the ks8000?

Jealous of you guys getting shipping notices. I emailed Samsung today and they said the sets were backordered until 11/13. I ordered Saturday.

Also just received my shipping info even though a guy today told me they were back ordered until the 13th. When I click the tracking number it takes me to a package delivered in 2009 so I guess I'll have to take the wait and see approach.

They told me the same thing. You could still get the email.

Im scared as fuck that my tv will be damaged now. I will be home in 1 hour. Guys please pray for me. Harambes blessings.

So who's at fault here? Samsung sending out defective units or is AGS that terrible at shipping?

There is just no way this thing could have passed QA, it's certainly not a defect. But honestly it could have been damaged anywhere along the line from warehouse to AGS to the third party company that AGS paid to deliver it.

The whole thing has been a massive inconvenience, being home for a scheduled delivery, coordinating with AGS, and now I'll have to take time off work to meet a tech. I hope it works out for everyone, and myself in the end, but I'm just bummed.

Guess I'll play on my 222" VR screen for now :P

Ha, I did just get it!

AGS just called me and said they'd deliver it tomorrow. Just in time for the pro :)

Now I hope it's not damaged and there's no light bleed lol

Our 55" KS8000 showed up today as scheduled, and I've spent a few hours since doing basic calibration and comparing sample content with my 2012 Samsung 7500 series HD set.

So far, I'm perfectly pleased with how it represents HD content. Out of the box it was better calibrated than some sets with reasonable brightness and contrast in Movie mode. There were only three areas where it had obvious concessions to the typical showroom "torch mode" approach:

  • Sharpness was set to a moderate value, which is a sin in my books. Artificial sharpening is fundamentally wrong, and on this set anything above zero starts to add the usual sharpening artifacts.
  • Soap opera effect is engaged by default. While I understand how unpleasant judder can be, the video-like feel of smoothed content gives me the creeps. I can understand a preference either way, but it seems like a Custom setting with motion blur and judder reduction set to zero seems to allow three-two pulldown for 24-frame per second content while not adding artificial smoothing.
  • The out-of-the-box gamma curve was way off. I found a value of -2 worked well for me, but that may well be panel dependant. I haven't looked into how to determine what panel I wound up with as I didn't want to bias my perception of the set in advance.

Overall, though, black levels appear to be as good as anything edge-lit has a right to be, and pure saturated colors definitely have added impact. Reds in particular, and yellows as a byproduct, are more true even in HD's Rec.709 content. The 4K UHD sample reel content I have shows the difference more clearly still.

I'm really looking forward to the arrival of the PS4 Pro tomorrow to really put the set through its paces. So far I'd say it's a nice but modest improvement over my prior display for HD content. Still, for any who are wondering whether to make the leap it's subtle enough that it's hard to say for certain that it's worth the cost for that alone.

I was thinking about exchanging it, but didn't want to go through another return if the replacement came damaged as well. I didn't order off of Samsung's site, I got mine through Amazon for $997. It came out to $1077 I believe, but it was through a third party seller based out of Anaheim CA. Chatted with amazon customer service and they said they would contact the third party seller to get the return label and set up a pick up. Had to send a bunch of pictures of the damage + the shipping condition of box to them so they could evaluate the claim. They eventually emailed me back saying they would pick it up the very next day.

I have always been weary of ordering TVs online due to this kind of situation, but couldn't pass up that deal. As of right now, the 55" KS8000 is going for about $1197 at Best Buy and that is kind of a bummer. Might hold off and see if the price changes within the following weeks.

Are the EPP invites working again? There appears to be a buzz on Slickdeals about it currently.

If so.....anyone got one they could send my way?

Interesting, thank you for the response. I'm wary of Samsung's return/repair policy. I won't accept a repair, I bought a new TV and expect a new one, but I've read some horror stories online. I also didn't inspect before signing on the delivery so they could be difficult if they choose to. Just hope it's not a long drawn out process, really killing my buzz on the Pro.

Seems like most people in this thread are getting the KS8000. How do people feel about the KS9000? It looks like the better TV to me, curious why more people aren't talking about it?

They should just send you a new one. I don't even think your set can even be repaired. I don't know how good Samsung's customer service is, but I find it ridiculous that they are having you wait at all. I'm actually impressed with Amazon's customer service. I wasn't home when the TV was delivered. My roommate signed for it and didn't really pay attention to crease that was indented on the box. The TV being damaged plus the whole election really bummed me out and my enthusiasm for the the pro launch also took a hit. Hope you can get a new TV and its not a long drawn out process.

A little disheartened reading how many televisions are damaged. If you see obvious signs of damage on the box, no point sccepting delivery and opening to see damage to the screen. Refuse delivery and get the refund. Samsung seems to be absolute garbage at quality these days. You would think with the Note 7 issues, they would take quality control and customer service more seriously. Sony is much better.
