Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Best Buy has a deal where you can get the Samsung 55inch UN55KU6300FXZA for $799 and you get an Xbox One S for $50 bucks basically. Save $250. Just Ebay off the Xbox for $250 ad the final TV cost would be $550 bucks.

Wait...Why would the 60" be the only size that uses a Sharp panel? Where'd you hear about this? Is there something that documents this?

It's true. Would you believe me if I told you except for the $30k BVM x300 OLED used for authoring home video transfers, there are NO Sony panels used in Sony TVS?

Even panel sources like LG and Samsung use 3rd party LCD panel from other makers like AOU, Sharp and others

In fact, NO TV maker produce all the LCD panels for all their products.

I know TV manufacturers uses panels from other companies but I'm asking about this particular size and model. I'm confused why this one size would use a Sharp panel and the other sizes use Samsung panels. I'm not calling anyone a liar but I need proof to go on...

Trying to pick that up this week. I sit about 6 feet from my TV and currently have a 47". I'm afraid 60" would be overkill but the difference between a 49" and 60", price-wise, is not much. The KS8000 seems to be the best way to go though.

No such thing as overkill, man. My only regret about picking up the KS8000 is that I got the 55" instead of splurging for the 65".

Well, if you get a massive TV and sit pretty close to it, your eyes have to move around a lot more simply because the screen's so big. It gets a little frustrating after a while, for me anyway.

It's because 60 inch doesnt sell as much as 55 and 65, so they make less of them overall, as a result samsung themselves don't actually manufacture any 60 inch panels

I don't have proof off hand, but anybody on avs forums who owns that model will tell you. The panel model number is on the box as well as the back of the tv, and you can trace that back to the manufacturer.

Edit: also not all of the other sizes are samsung panels, there are actually 3 different panels being used in the other sizes, and only the fa01 model I believr is a samsung panel.

Using different LCD manufacturers for different sizes within the same model type is pretty much a universal practice these days.

There are even cases where a single size and single model will have different panel manufacturers.....hence the term Panel Lottery

For instance :

Do a Google search for "LCD panel lottery" and prepare to have your mind blown

Thanks for the link. I guess I'll go with the other sizes then. To be fair though I was looking at the 60" KS8000 in person at Best Buy and I couldn't really tell any difference with the others side by side :-/

Considering to buy KD-43XD8305 ( X830D in US probably ) soon. Little more expensive than X800D, but considerably better.

It has IPS panel ( VA panel X800D ), 120 Hz refresh rate ( 60Hz X800D ), Frame Interpolation 800 Hz ( 200Hz X800D ) and so on.

I read that VA panels has better contrast than IPS panels, but how much better? Probably if you paid more for TV which has IPS panel, black would be the on the same level as VA panel or better?

The 60 inch has a Sharp panel and is not nearly as good as the Samsung panels in the 49, 55 and 65 inch models. Stick with one of those instead, trust me Shinobi :)

That's interesting. It used to be the other way around with Samsung panels not being as good as Kameyama ones. I've just ordered a Sony ZD9 to be delivered in a couple weeks, and the Sony rep assured me I'd be getting a Sharp Kameyama panel. I guess I'll have to confirm it with another rep.

How much better is the KS8000 though? That's a pretty damn good deal...

The KS8000 is significantly better in many respects due to the color purity and improved brightness of quantum dot technology, but everyone's budget is obviously different.

Yeah and I'll be happy with a pro.

Sticking with the KS8000! Picking it up next week before the costco sale is over.

I need to take down my old huge sony LCD (giving it to my dad), mount my LG LED where the Sony used to be, and the Samsung is going in the basement.

VA contrast is substantially better. An IPS without FALD can't display black really, so all blacks will be grey.

I had the IPS sony 850d and returned it after two weeks. Any dark scenes in movies were completely ruined. Same with games. And that was a 1500 dollar TV.

Edit: I have ks8000 now. Love it. Any minor light bleed on the top corners when viewed off center in a dark room is what the entire screen of the 850d looked like at all times.

Oh, yes! Lack of full array.

This is what I have. I wish I have the extra money for an OLED 4K.

So is this a good tv?

It's ok for its price, but personally i wouldn't get the KU6300 because it doesn't support wide color gamut.

From Rtings.com

Q: Can you go over the benefits of HDR when WCG, 10bit and Brightness is missing?

A: Basically, there will be no benefits to the picture quality over a SDR 4k signal as it will still display the image in the Rec 709 color space, in 8 bit, and with normal luminosity. The UHD Blu-ray player will convert the HDR gamma curve to a SDR gamma curve.

Edit: i would say the X800D is a better choice if you are looking at that price range.

I just bought a 65" Samsung KU6409. (European model for the german market, no idea what the model is called in the US or if its available at all)
Its not SUHD, but it supports HDR Pro and has 28ms input lag in Game Mode with HDR.
It cost 1300€, which was a little over my budget but still okay. Since size was very important to me I couldn't go SUHD, because 60"+ SUHD TVs(or comparable models by other manufacturers) aren't available for less than 2000€.

So far I'm very happy with the TV. BF1 looks great on it, the size is perfect. Now I have to wait for my Ps4 Pro.
At work I have a Samsung KS7090 (49") and so far I'm more impressed with my TV, but maybe its just the size.
Nice to hear.
Was also looking at that option due the KS8000 being expensive as fuck.
Only alternative would be B-stock where the price would be significantly cheaper.
However, they're still expensive and my student budget doesn't really leave alot of room.
Gonna keep an eye on that model and save some money.

European model numbers differ for some reason. As far as I can tell the display technology in the European KS7000 is the same as the US KS8000, though I've seen claims that the speakers and cosmetics differ. One claim listed as KS7005 that was identical to the American KS8000 which is the lowest-end SUHD model offered here.

Bought the 55" KS8000. Seems great so far. If anyone has tips or calibration settings, I'd appreciate them. Using the rtings settings for now.

I've played some HDR content via Netflix but I'm not 100% sure if it's actually working. Going to mess with t a lot more tomorrow.

http://m.costco.ca/Vizio-M55-D0-55-...D-Home-Theater-Display.product.100301080.html
I've been looking at the vizio m55-d0 to get when I get a ps4 pro, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this model and is it 100% hdr10? It does say it use Dolby vision so I would assume so.

I returned this VIZIO for the only reason that my tablet and phone were not compatible with their app that is used as a controller to calibrate and do all things wth the TV.

Love Costcos extended return policy and I even got the 5 year extension. But that was a pretty big deal breaker. Also, the TV didn't have HDR. Ended up getting this one at Best Buy.

http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d

I am very happy with it, even if its not 55". But for everything that i need and use it its really surpassing my expectations. I also use this TV as my computer screen in the living room. I can even use the 12 bit panel mode on the PC, and i tend to use the apps on the TV to set the calibration to movie mode better instead of changing my desktop mode. Its awesome.

After a lot of deliberation. Ordered a Vizio P50-C1 today. I've been gaming on a 40+ms TV for a while now without noticing anything, don't really play multiplayer in my room, mainly single player console games. At the moment it has ~60ms of input lag in HDR, but they said in an update they'll be bringing it down to around 45ms.

But I hear there are some other issues as well (that I don't know whether I'll notice or not). If they do end up mattering, then I'll return the TV, deal with my current 8 year old TV's issues, and wait for next year's models that will hopefully address the shortcomings of this year's models.

Not sure if this is the right thread but I have a quick question. I bought a KS8000 in preparation for the pro but ran into a hitch. My Yamaha receiver has 4K pass through but no hdr pass through. Am I better off running the hdmi from the PS4 to the tv and an optical cable from the PS4 to the receiver or running an hdmi from the PS4 to the tv and running an optical from the tv to the receiver?

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Sony just released an update to fix latency issues when gaming in 4KHDR it seema they allow you to make a change in HDR mode now where you can turn off motionflow while gaming.

https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/75736/c/66/kw/75736

Im assuming this will bring the latency down to the same level as the regular game mode. I have no way to test but im sure that probably waa the cause of the high numbers tested by rtings and others.

Would be interesting to see what kind of improvement this gives. Could be convinced the Z series if the HDR doesn't kill the latency

Is the KS8000 something that might get some Black Friday love? Or is it too nice? I've never bought a tv on Black Friday no idea of the quality of the offerings.

Well neither are good because you'll lose lossless audio. If you have to choose one, I'd go ps4 to the receiver.

Anyone upgrade from a VT25 to a ks8000?

Was it a good call? Was there significant input lag in comparison?

input lag is lower on the samsung....

don't go from the tv to the receiver via optical, it can only do 2.1

either HDMI ARC from your TV to your receiver (assuming your receiver supports it), or optical from your ps4/pc/whatever straight to the receiver

Man I really want the 60inch ks8000 but these posts about different panels has me concerned. Can someone link to the exact post on avs? There are 515 pages to go through

That's a great deal. For those of us who do not want so spend 2K for a TV (8000 is that price in Canada), this is a great option.

I recently bought this, the 6290 BestBuy version which lacks Bluetooth but is the same TV otherwise. Its not a 10 bit panel but the HDR is still really good, and a lot better than a 4k TV without. It has almost inky blacks being a VA panel, and no bright spots or banding like alot of IPS seem to have. Very happy with it. Input lag in game mode is better than a lot of higher end sets also, its great for gaming.

P.S. Keep the Xbox One S for 4k blurays. :P

Cross post from another TV thread:

Can you daisy chain another switch with the one connect box that comes with the KS8000? If so, can you access everything with the one remote? any recommendations on an hdmi switch to go with it?

Currently typing this reply using this TV with my alienware alpha and it's great after the last update. Personally I love this TV and had minor issues only with streaming wirelessly which I fixed by going hardwired.

Yep.
The KS8000 US is called KS7090 here in Germany.
Problem is, that barely any shop has them and the price difference is just far to big.
A big chain and a few smaller shops on- and offline got the KS series, but that's about it.
Amazon doesn't have them and that goes for the majority of big shops.

The 65' KS8000 is $1,897 and the comparsion would be the big chain taking $ 2,722 here in Germany.
The price difference is there for every size, but it get's smaller with the price.
Hopefully prices will go down a bit and there will be more alternatives after the CES.

Cool.

TV should be here tomorrow or the next day.

Also, due to not having money for a soundbar or surround system, and having decent speakers for my PC already in the room, decided on buying a RCA to 3.5mm cable that I'll be using to connect the TV's audio out to the PC's line in.

Are OLED TVs worth the extra dough? I'm looking at the LG OLED55B6P which is $2500. Conversely I could get the Samsung UN55KS8000 for half that.

Typically, manufacturers put lower end models on heavy sales for Black Friday rather than relatively higher end models like the KS8000. I doubt it'll go on sale but regardless, I'm still waiting just in case.

Yeah I think I am too. I'm ready to take the plunge but I'll be hot if I buy it then it goes on sale. I can make it a few weeks. Maybe :)

Ordered my OLED55b6p! Here in Japan the 65" model is more than double the price, which I couldn't justify, but I guess I'll just sit a little closer when I game, haha!

Most TVs can passthrough 5.1 Dolby and DTS.

After reading about 4K and HDR pass through and now I'm concerned. I was thinking about getting a KS8000 for my pro but I have a HDMI switcher that my PS4 goes into which then plugs into my sony subwoofer/sound bar. Is this going to be a problem for 4K and HDR?
