Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Im looking to get a 70 inch 4k TV, under $2000.

I am looking at Samsung UN70KU6300 or Vizio M70-D3. The vizio is about $200 cheaper. Any suggestions on either of these, or a different model alltogether that fits my criteria?

Still too soon in the market to buy 4k TV's. Will get it when it settles down in a few years atleast 2018

That Samsung doesnt do HDR so I'd go with the Vizio.

2020 with the ps5, when 4K HDR tvs will be sub $1k for a 60", $2k or so for an 80" and the consoles can actually render 4K content, and that goes for both Neo and Scorpio.

Anything decent at the moment is overpriced IMO.

If you have to have one now, I'd say the new Vizios are the best bet for the price.

There will be 4K games on NEO, no doubt.

I have pre-ordered the upcoming Epson 9300 (5040 model in US) projector to replace my old model. It does Eshift type 4k, so not native 4k but looks close to it and does HDR. I watch movies just as much as I game. So having the PS4 Neo for both is perfect.
Nothing beats playing on a big 120" screen :D

I'm really curious how well that Epson handles 4K and HDR. It's not a bad price point either.

hm where do you see that? the amazon page says it does.
It accepts a HDR input but doesn't have the capability to actually display it ;) Don't stare yourself blind on the HDR logo. For example the Vizio can display HDR, but lacks the contrast and colour to show it properly.

I'd go with the Samsung.

@_@ what would be an example of a tv that actually displays it properly?

I was looking for reviews on the new Sony XD83 TV and I stumbled on a quote from this site that confused me but seems it's exactly what you were describing.

The new models all have 4K resolution and are ”HDR (high dynamic range) compatible” (XD75, XD70 and SD80 will receive a firmware update later). This means that the TVs can receive and process HDR content but do not have the hardware to reproduce HDR like Sony’s flagship TVs.

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1469022680&rss#iSIPV8orDl6U7S8R.99

So this means that they can accept the signal but you won't see any of the benefits?

Looking on Sony's site it says Wide colour gamut for the XD83 and XD80 but doesn't say the same for the XD70/75

Question, from a bewildered soon-to-be 4K HDR TV buyer.

On Facebook, there's a guy selling a Curved 65" Samsung SUHD TV.

The exact model # is UN65KS850DF. And he's selling it for $1200.

Should I lock this down for my PS4 Pro? Thanks in advance!

I can't speak to the reputability of the individual selling the set. Caveat emptor and all that. That specific model is pretty amazing, almost as good as OLED in most respects and better overall brightness (we have the KS800DF model which is the flat version of the same thing, both being the Costco model variants of the KS8500 and KS8000 models.) It's a great HDR set with amazing peak brightness and wonderful color reproduction.

The two issues this design is prone to that you might want to investigate are lack of uniformity and light bleed along the bottom edge. Both are at least somewhat inevitable in an edge-lit set like this but I haven't found either egregious on ours.

Thanks! But overall, this is a great option for the PS4 Pro?

Of course I can't comment from personal experience since I'm waiting for my PS4 Pro just like everyone else, and sadly even when it arrives it won't be at the same home as our SUHD Samsung. I presume others will be able to weigh in on the combination.

... but it should be a great fit. Low latency even in HDR mode, which is rare, and well reviewed across the board. The HDR content I've watched on the set has been absolutely stunning. The only potential caution is that related standards are still evolving, with HDMI 2.1 expected to bring "dynamic metadata" for HDR, which may simplify matching settings on the display for a given source. I haven't seen anything definitive on whether a firmware update will suffice or indeed whether the PS4 Pro will support the emerging standard. At worst, you might need to manually tweak a few settings from time to time.

I forgot I created this thread.

Anyways, I bought the 4K 43' LG Smart TV. I really like it. Also the magic control is awesome.

I recommend it. Not too much to watch in 4K outside of Netflix content in 4K. If I find a nice deal, I would definitely trade my PS4 OG for a Pro. Need that 4K content!!!

Thanks. You're the best. Think I'll pull the trigger tomorrow!

Is it this one?

This is one of the sets that I hope gets a good Black Friday deal. Any thoughts on how good it is in terms of picture quality and HDR quality. Especially when compared to other 4k TV's in its price range?

I know this was months ago but wondering if you got it? Wish I hadn't seen this, now I want it bad after seeing some reviews. I'd love to replace my old Epson with this.

The TV is good, but there's no reason to buy a second hand TV at over a $1000 when they'll be going for around that price on Black Friday. Don't buy a TV from anyone other than a Brick and Mortar store. It's not worth the hassle if things go wrong.

I just pulled the trigger on a Samsung UN49KS8000 - it arrives on Thursday, though I suppose I won't have much HDR content to run through it until the Pro hits.

I finally have the disposable income to afford a 65" LG OLED... question is, do I go for it? I am currently using a 1080p projector with crap input lag, and I have pre-ordered my PS4 Pro.

I've been using the units for a month now.
Great projector, but getting HDR and WCG can be a bit finicky because the bandwith is capped at 10.2 gbps.

Huh. I ordered a 4k set from B&H. Screen had a small hole poked into it.

They let me keep the TV while they delivered a replacement (that was perfect). Then they took the old one, boxed it back up and that was that.

Cost me nothing extra to do.

I can't imagine how i'd get it to and from a store (55") in my not-truck car.

I'm buying a 4k monitor for work, I currently use a previous model of this screen with my PS4 (The only issue is needing to output audio via the joypad).

Will I be able to get the PS4K's resolution benefits with this monitor?

http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/ea275uhd-bk

It's a 4K UHD screen with resolution 3840x2160.
Input Connectors HDMI 2.0
Synchronisation Range Vertical 30-75 Hz
Displayable Colors 1.07 billion out of 4.3 trillion

Assuming these claimed specs work together, you should get 3840x2160 60Hz output from PS4 Pro on that display. And 10-bit per channel colour, dependant on the content being played.

You'd need to confirm HDCP 2.2 (copy protection) support for UHD video playback from online services.
Wide colour gamut and high dynamic range don't appear to be supported. The latter isn't available on monitors just yet.

My Samsung ks8000 showed up today. Looks fantastic but it's way too big for my tv stand. PS4 thread but I bought an xbox one s with it for uhd blu ray and it work's great with that. Even netflix with it's lower bitrate looks fantastic in 4k. Having to turn game mode on and off between gaming and media watch is slightly annoying but oh well.

I bought a 50 inch Samsung JS7000 earlier this year in preparation for 4K + HDR content:

but during black friday i am eyeing a 60 inch Samsung KS8000 for my living room:

Do you notice any blooming in certain spots or light bleeding on the edges? I really want to get a new tv and the Samsung KS8000 has been praised as the go to 4k tv because of input lag with HDR on for gaming, but it's edge lit. The Vizio P-series is backlit and cheaper. The input lag with HDR on is crazy though.

I have a KS8000 and the only time I see the edge lighting issue is if the Smart LED (local dimming) function is on. I know several sites recommend using it but I found the color alterations in that mode to be bothersome. If the screen is mostly a dark image (take Bloodborne for example) the saturation of bright pixels changes. They desaturate by some margin. To others this may not be a big deal but it was distracting enough for me to turn the function off (Especially with really saturated colors). The downside to this is that now instead of the bright pixels only being affected, the whole screen dims by about 5% BUT the colors stay intact! <3
It comes down to what you're willing to live/deal with or care about.
Just my two cents though! That being said, I absolutely LOVE the TV (hdr content and 4k look INCREDIBLE, no joke) BUT, I feel like there are some minor "gotchas" with it that (I think) review sites just don't think are important enough to mention.

I was planning to wait for 2017 models...but ended up buying the X800D lol.

No regrets though, the picture quality is gorgeous. Can't wait for PS4 Pro and FFXV to launch.

I'm probably getting the LG OLED 65 inch B6D soon.
I know the input lag is not optimal, but I don't really play competitive (except DriveClub) so it should be fine.

I just hope I get to see the nice HDR benefits despite a lower maximum brightness of OLEDs

Hisense TVs always seem to be going down in price here in the UK. Anyone have one and has an opinion to share? I would be worried about the lag in HDR mode is all that would worry me so that's why I'm cautious.

Just bought an open box LG 65" and I love it. Game mode has very low input lag and the picture quality is gorgeous. We spend about 2 hours go back and forth between some TVs in the demo area of best buy, looking at what we wanted. I really love this TV, keep looking for good 4k HDR content to test out on it.

I just bought a 65" Samsung KU6409. (European model for the german market, no idea what the model is called in the US or if its available at all)
Its not SUHD, but it supports HDR Pro and has 28ms input lag in Game Mode with HDR.
It cost 1300€, which was a little over my budget but still okay. Since size was very important to me I couldn't go SUHD, because 60"+ SUHD TVs(or comparable models by other manufacturers) aren't available for less than 2000€.

So far I'm very happy with the TV. BF1 looks great on it, the size is perfect. Now I have to wait for my Ps4 Pro.
At work I have a Samsung KS7090 (49") and so far I'm more impressed with my TV, but maybe its just the size.

Still way too soon for me to jump into the 4K/HDR tv market.

That being said though, I'm in the market for a new monitor, seeing as my current one is going on 6 years now. Would a 28 inch 4K IPS monitor be worth the 400 bucks I'd be investing in it? I wouldn't be using the 4K yet for any PC gaming I'd be doing, so it would basically be a long term investment thing along with only using the 4K aspect for the PS4 Pro. But I'm wondering if the 4K would even be a significant upgrade at that screen size.

The 60 inch has a Sharp panel and is not nearly as good as the Samsung panels in the 49, 55 and 65 inch models. Stick with one of those instead, trust me Shinobi :)
Wait...Why would the 60" be the only size that uses a Sharp panel? Where'd you hear about this? Is there something that documents this?
