On April 12, 2005 the North Carolina Attorney General's Office contacted Buy-Rite Video Games, Inc. requesting that the company ensure that they will take no more orders, inform customers of their business status and they must provide a working telephone number for customers to contact concerning the resolution of their complaints.

As of April 26, 2005 the North Carolina Attorney General's Office reports that Buy-Rite Video is out of business.

Heck yeah. :D

They're only 20 or so min away from me, so maybe I'll drive by just to bask in their out-of-business-ness

Good. I've been rippped off from them, like most people have. Even though I'm still out my money, it's good to see that they won't be robbing anyone else. :D

I hadn't even heard Buyrite's name mentioned in at least 3-4 years. I assumed they'd gone under a long time ago. Honestly this shutdown news is so late coming that it's not even satisfying. They already had 9+ years to rape customers in the ass-- probably made lots of money in the process.

If anything this is a testament to how shitty and slow the system is for lancing scum like this off the skin of humanity.

The big question is, now that they're gone, what store of skankyness will IGN endorse? It's absolutely disturbing that every time IGN recommended an import shop, Buyrite was on the list.

Yeah, I actually think I remember certain editors even going out of their way to mention how they personally used them, even threw in their url on occasion.

Bout fucking time. I've only had to deal with them once, and it was one of t he worst experiences I've ever had.

When you drop the IGN card when you make orders, I'm sure ANYONE would scramble and do whatever it took to get that order on-time. Perhaps it IGN that you should thank for screwing you out of your precious order. :)

Ugh, that's messed up.

I'm glad to see them finally get shut down. Took long enough. :-/

I'm really surprised this scam site asted this long.

How may reports were filed against them anyway? More than I can recall for sure.

I don't think i've EVER heard a positive experience from them.

From never shipping orders and then hiding, or taking your money and claiming to have never receiving it... even though you have a receipt.

Bunch of crooks whom I hope end up litigated against.

I only dealt with them once, by accident (Ebay auction ended up being from these jackasses) so I'm glad they're gone. Hey, no more spam coming either, woo!

Same thing happened to me, am still waiting for my copy of RE2 GC. Paid and never got my game

I got my game, but it was completely opened and the manual was a bit messed up. Got my $4 shipping back at least.

In Osaka, I met a guy who was their used game supplier. Buyrite told him what to get from second-hand shops and he would buy them in bulk, used, and ship them to Buy-Rite. He said, "Please don't tell anyone!" Ha ha ha.

So now that they are closed, does that mean that copy of Otogi i ordered back in November will never arrive at my house or will I be refunded?

FUCK YES. I ordered an SP and about 6 Megaman Bandai model kits right when the SP came out. A month later my mother had to bitch to them everyday to get them to send the SP.

My first order long ago, PSO and a keyboard, came. My second, SA2B, Sonic Adv and a GBA/GCN cable came.
But third time for me was the charm.

Oh hell yes! I haven't used them in several years, but back when I did it was like pulling teeth. Shit shipped late, orders lost, terrible customer service. I'm glad the Karma Police put the smack down.

Looks like they pissed off a lot of other people here too :(

I took a chance with an Ebay order from them, for a decently priced Neo-Geo cart. It was in great condition, but was shipped in an empty cardboard box. I was damn lucky it survived intact.

Anyway, no tears cried over them. Now, if The Rage could go the same way... still an E-reader short from those guys.

Oh, and Lan-Kwei? Are they still around? Took me six months to finally get my stuff + a consolation game for my wait.

I dunno. I ordered some games from them earlier and those arrived with no problems. Then I ordered an E-Reader with a few games, and they claimed they were lost in the mail. Later I heard from another person (here in Sweden) with a similar problem, he ordered once or twice without problems and then was screwed.

This has really helped to cheer me up after the shitty experience I just had at work this afternoon.

Warning VENTING

(they took $100 out of my paycheck, which is illegal I might add, because I came up $100 short a few weeks ago when I closed. I wasn't the only one working that day either, but rather than bitch about it, let's just say that I was about to walk out the door after almost 9 years here but will stick it out a few months longer until I find out about the JET teaching job I applied for)

/END VENTING

I ordered from Buyrite myself once or twice in the past and actually never had a problem, but I've seen their "work" first hand from customers and had to deal with their shitty service when we briefly used them to get import games from "wholesale." (:lol)

Never used the Rage since I didn't like how it seemed impossible to contact them directly. NCS and Tronix (too bad he isn't carrying imports anymore) are the best.

Hmm, I might just have to take a trip by. It's outta the way, but might be good for a laugh.

In addition to enjoying the chance to make fun of Buy-Rite in person one last time, there's a good Edward McKay's Used Books (and CDs, DVDs, games, and god-knows what) right next to 'em, as well as a pretty decent Indian restaurant, Taj Mahal, in the shopping center next door. Does anyone know if their storefront location has officially closed up shop yet or if they'll be trying to rip off a few last people before shuffling off this mortal coil?

I had the misfortune of placing an order with buyrite during the Dreamcast era.
Guess what?
They botched my order.

I ordered a Total Control 3 adapter to play Saturn Controllers on Dreamcast.
They botched it and sent me a Total Control 1 adapter instead wich was for Ps2 Dualshocks!

It took them a month and a half for them to fix my order after i sent them the wrong item back

Na na na na! Hey ey ey! Good Bye- Buyrite or should i say Buywrong

I love Buy Rite hate threads. I got over on them once, posted here, and basically got crucified. I sold them my GC that would shut off after about 10 min of play. People here cried "What if someone here gets stuck with your broken Cube?"

My answer: "Don't shop at Buy Rite."

I worked there for two days, worst experience of my life. I can't see how they ship any orders correctly with their "filing" system. The red hed guy/owner is a duche, he is literally so slimy I don't understand how he isn't in prison, much less owner of a gameshop.

People on here that have shopped there (Raleigh NC) might remember the hippy troll. He was literally about 4 feet tall with hair down to his ass, named John. I feel sorry for him, he was a decent guy actually. I'm sure he knew how shady the situation was though.

The boss literally hired me to watch the other employees. He had a $100 bounty on anyone producing evidence of another employee stealing from him. I hope no one took that seriously and he got robbed blind. God, what a shitty store.

Please drive by and take pics 2&2. I used to live in the area but now I'm 3 hours away, otherwise I'd do it myself.

:lol @ the bounty

I ordered a Super Game Boy 2 and a Tri-Star from them, about 6 years ago... and I had no problems with receiving either of them.

Tronix is out of import game business? Wow... When did that happen?
Anyway, good riddance to Buywrong. :D

I want to say a year ago, maybe more. Joe, the owner of Tronix, said that he had some problems with the people he was getting imports from and was looking for another source, but I guess he never found one or decided to just sell domestic games.
