Call of Duty: Black Ops III |OT| No Content For Old Gen

It's been a long time coming, but It feels like I can safely say that this is a CoD title very few latency related issues. Hit detection is good, few bullshit deaths, and things just feel,for lack of a better word,right. There hasn't been too many instances where something happened and I'm like "that shouldn't be possible and should never happen" like getting shot before you see a muzzle flash, or seemingly accruing lots of bullet damage at once, and dying instantly; things just sync up here.

With Ghosts being the exception, BO3 is the first title since MW2 that performs well on the network front, and performs waaaaay better than Advance Warfare for me( AW was borderline unplayable for me from the first match I played, and onward).
 
Has anybody else the same problem that he/she can't use the Gunsmith Station in the Campagne Savehouse? I can use the Armory and the Cyber Cores Station, but at the Gunsmith Station there isn't even a prompt showing to interact with. I had no problem using it until the Savehouse moved to the Plane
after you leave Singapore

Melee seems completely useless now considering it's not always a kill. What governs if it's a kill or not?

If enemy at full health and you hit from the front = 2 hit kill
If enemy at less than full health and you hit from front = 1 hit kill

If enemy at whatever health and is hit from the back/back-side = 1 hit kill

It's perfect.
 
Anyone else here think aw is a much much better game? From the customisation of your player and create a class. I also feel the guns felt better and more satisfying to shoot. I feel like the exo suit had much better mobility for a cod game, blops trying to copy titanfall just doesn't work for me at all.

It's a shame really because I was hearing great things about this one, so I decided to go in blind and so far everything has felt like a let down and made me want to play aw again. I'm going to give it another few hours though, hopefully it will click

The campaign in this game is really bad. Really, really really bad. I'm having a good time with the multiplayer though, although the cryptokeys thing feel very grindy. It was mostly a placebo effect but the supply drop thing from AW was a nice way of giving you a "one more match!" incentive to keep going.

Also speaking of AW, the whole Treyarch/other guys divide strikes again. I keep trying to use the thrusters the same way as in AW, which obviously doesn't work.

It might be slower than AW but I would never call this game "grounded and slow".

Oh I need a 1 hit kill shotgun! Which one is it? I only got one unlocked so far.

The KRM and Argus both 1HK. The KRM has really awful range without aiming until you get some attachments for it like long barrel, laser sights or rapid fire. It will take some work until then. Even when you aim, it isn't that good of range. I felt the Argus is better in that regard.

I had a ton of fun with AW and I loved the movement options, it was the most fun I had with CoD multiplayer since CoD4. However so far this game feels more grounded, and I mean that more with general rules, not pace, which overall I feel will make for a more compelling game. I'm having a ton of fun with it. It's got the raw sting of BLOPS2 which I loved, but some smart additions to movement and such.

But yeah, AW for me felt amazing in a purely fun way. Dual welding SMGS with gung-ho and running and boosting around constantly shooting everything fucking rocked. Damn near turned the game into Quake for me. It was probably the CoD I was the best at.

No other CoD made me tired faster than AW did, I guess the non-stop boosting and moving did a number on my brain or something haha
But yeah Blops3 is really balanced I feel like and will def keep having fun with it. I do miss the goomba stomp though :/

2 shot kill MG which most people camp with around flags on domination

1 shot kill easy to scope down and shoot sniper rifles that can be acog-like sight enabled

A huge range of guns, which is good, that are irrelevant, which is bad, due to the few extremely low TTK weapons it has to offer making the "meta" of this game rely solely on fast fire rate mods on higher TTK weapons to compete

The game feels absolutely flawless in movement, the map design is perfect and the specialists bring a whole new layer to competitive game modes but the guns bring this entire experience down on PC. This is another game which really should have balancing entirely separate from it's console counter part because everything gun balance wise probably feels better with sticks.

Also a few technical issues hurt the experience too but this isn't the thread for that,

Whats it like on ps4 in uk connection wise? People getting connected to any servers or is it usual p2p? Hows the lag comp? Are people gimping their connection to get an advantage?

Off to do weekly shop in a bit and not sure whether to get it or not. Missed AW and didn't like ghosts.

Holy shit this was terrible. Felt like it could have been Advanced Warfare 2 instead of Black Ops.Hell it felt more like Army of Two than Black Ops.
Lets completely remove player choices, add a few references to Black Ops 2 so we can market it as Black Ops, throw in some of the most forgettable characters in the series, have the game take place in only three locations, and use the trope of a rogue AI.
Some much potential wasted.

ACOG equipped Dragon sniper spamming is basically a recoilless death machine. Most of the really high KDR people I've seen have been using that because it's nearly or definitely 1hk at all ranges and you can shoot so fast.

Yeah but the 2nd one the semi auto is 1-2HK and can be spammed and has 12 bullets and better range. I don't even know what the tradeoff is on it consdiering how fast you can fire.

Yup. Shotguns being one hit is fine as you are at a severe disadvantage in range. Not to mention until you get dead silence all that running you'll be doing makes it easy for people with headsets to hear you coming.

This isn't anything new. Bulldog in ghosts and mw3 also had strong semi auto shottys. They have to be able to down you quick to make up for the range.

I'm playing the campaign on hardened, and I think it's great. Really great. The DNI mode mixed with cyber skills and open level design make every encounter feel like a puzzle that can be solved in many different ways to me, which I've never felt about any CoD before.

Sure, the dialogue is bad, but I'd rather they go overboard with it like they did here (
that fucking chocolate bar
) than something that takes itself way too seriously and is equally shitty (Yeah, let's not pretend like Soap was an interesting character in any way).

Also, I really love how trippy it becomes as it progresses, and how it sometimes verges on being a complete mindfuck.

Ok quick thoughts.

Campaign... hmmm.
- It feels like they added lots of things (more open areas, multiple routes, new abilities) but playing the game anyway than the usual COD style punishes you on harder difficulties to the point that you just play it like a shooting gallery.
- Story, could be interesting but as cool the as the future stuff makes gadgets & weapons it makes the stories way too over complicated. COD 4 was so simple in comparison and you could easily pick up what was going on. So far there is no context for any factions or what I am.
+ All the new stuff they have added. I am not very far in so will see if it picks up.

+ MP, I am having so much fun. The movement feels great but not so over the top that people are jumping and thrusting all over the place.
+ Maps feel really good so far. Most also remind me of past maps that I enjoyed, not so much in structure but in look and design.
+ I like the specialists idea. Also people seem to be mixing it up more, I was expecting to face teams completely of prophet/glitch players but has been a nice balance.
+&- The gorgon! Fark! This gun is fun to play with but once you get quick aiming and faster movement awhile aiming it feels almost unfair. I'm guessing this will be the first thing to get patched.

Overall the most fun MP experience I've had in awhile. I've actually been laughing out loud and realised how much I missed listening to kids talk gibberish or adults completely rage and loose it.

If you slide off of a ledge and boost, you keep your momentum while flying trough the air. There are a lot of places to do this.

This game doesn't have to be taken serious haha , someone was mad as fuck in a free for all earlier when I kept using the starter shotgun to mow everyone down

Especially in free for all cause that's just luck

Agreed, I haven't had stuttering lag or any of the other traditional COD problems in the mp, which is refreshing

And after days of suffering, I finally found a gun I'm good with (aka the gun that will help me adjust to aiming in this game, boost my confidence and allow me to finally use other guns more successfully)

Multi is fantastic but the people who bought this solely for campaign are going to be very disappointed.
Yeah, I'm getting that feeling. I got it for the campaign and zombies specifically, so zombies will likely save it for me. It is just doubly disappointing for me because AW had an amazing campaign, and I was hoping this would have been at least close to that.

Is anyone else getting some weird texture loading issues in the campaign?

I wish the game allowed you to go on top of a building, with the movement system you can wall run and make your way there quickly but no map allows you to be on top. But yes I guess this is to make the gameplay a bit more grounded compared to say Titanfall.
 
As a fellow old gamer (40 years old) who also knows without any doubt whatsoever I am not as good at MP games as I once was, just realize it is not only you.
I believe it is very simple as to why, at least in my situation...
I just do not have the time I once had to dedicate to playing the games. Less time = less familiarity with the maps, weapons, intricacies, best spots, the list goes on and on.
Sure, some people are just naturally gifted at FPS MP and they do not need time, but I believe that most people do.

Since I have realized it is not that I suck, but I do not have the time needed to dedicate to get as good as the players who are better than me, well, it is what it is. I accept it, and still have fun.

Perhaps it has also helped me that I know my K/D ratio in a video game is truly irrelevant in the grand scheme of this thing we call life. It literally has no affect on me either way. It just does not matter.

So play and enjoy. If you do not enjoy it, find something you do. Life is to short.

Very wise words, thanks! Actually, have found the ideal way to get into the game and learn the maps at the same time: Gun Game. Less chaotic, piles of time to discover the maps... and it's fun too, and make you appreciate the maps, because they are very good.

I never saw it in old shooters like quake or unreal tournament i am just having fun a co worker who is obsessed with k/d in battlefield i said to him you don't know how to have fun your obsession to k/d doesn't make any sense. I am just playing for fun even after a match is over i just wait for the next match.

Most COD games for PC have a common downside to the weapons that makes them all on an equal level. You have to remember that when using a Mouse and Keyboard you can control the behavior of guns in a different way to a controller. This is the first COD game that I've played on PC that hasn't got anything to keep the weapons on an even playing field. The low TTK guns outshine the rest of the gun balance and then the one-two shot kill machines are incredibly easy to use an aim with. Much easier to do so with a mouse than with a controller. So no, not like most COD games.

Except for the fact that most players on PC have an easier time using it because of the amount of precision a mouse grants them. One shot kill CQC guns are a terrible idea for any game and if I were to follow your logic and apply it to PC the pump in between shots should be 3x slower.

Oh I need a 1 hit kill shotgun! Which one is it? I only got one unlocked so far.

The first shotgun is a one hit kill at CQC, I'm not sure if you can put a longer barrel on it but if you can then there you go. There's another one you unlock after it which can fire shots off incredibly fast and mostly kills in 1-2 hits. Both of these guns have no real downside.

you guys trashing the game are crazy, the multiplayer is pretty balanced already and even though the campaign's gunplay can get repetitive, its new features keep it varied enough.

Don't get me wrong,I am happy when my KD is high cause it means I did well that round, but I don't make my fun dependent on it.

After a 16 hour binge session.

I don't think much of the campaign in this one, even AW was better then this honestly but the multiplayer outside gun balance is great, just need to fix that powerslide shotgun bullshit. Having destiny flashbacks from that.
 
Just have to say it: I know killstreaks are with points, but to give me 100 points for a kill in SnD is not right, planting the bomb 0? Can't level up in this modus.

When did it change, was away since BO1?

What is you guys' go to weapon for SMG. I'm finding the Kuda really good (for hardcore), even with silencer.

Also, for XB1, is anyone getting randomly booted when in the waiting lobby in multiplayer? Loses connection a lot during that screen.

The MP is pretty fun but could have been even better. A couple of the maps are pretty poor design wise. And downright terrible for game types like domination. Good luck getting to the B flag on a few of these maps once another team has it.

The worst part of the MP are the specialist abilities in my opinion. I would have MUCH preferred it if they only included the "booster" abilities instead of the weapons. You can already die instantly to so many things in this game. Why in god's name would you need to add a half dozen more one hit kill weapons that you can earn multiple times per game? lol It's crazy. I'm a decent player and I die to those weapons all the time. Even if I don't get hit by one, I can still die. I've died from a tempest chain reaction at least five times already since the game launched. The game would be much more fun without that stuff. What happened to relying on gun skills and then getting fun kill streaks because you did well with those gun skills? It's like they're just trying to get more and more crazy with each game at this point, pushing things as far as they can.

The killstreaks are pretty underwhelming too. There are only a handful that are actually fun to use. They nerfed the hell out of the hellstorm and lightning strike. They just aren't very good. Those early/mid tier streaks were good in other CoD games. Not so much in this one which sucks. Luckily, I think the Cerberus is really cool so I'm able to roll with that one at least as a mid tier streak.

The game is still good and can be very fun to play, mainly with a group of friends. But it feels like it could easily be much better if they didn't include the special weapons. That and the boring killstreaks are the main issues that suck the fun out of the MP for me. It feels like they had a chance to make something really special but fell a little short due to design decisions. But these are just some of my main gripes. I'm still having fun and I still like a number of things about the MP. I just wish there was a remedy for the things I mentioned. But there isn't. Oh well.
