Ok, so I was practising martial arts yesterday and a little bit of the front smalt of my front tooth is missing now. It really is barely noticeable. My question is, what do u do in this situation? (appart from going to the dentist, cause I just got to the us and my medical insurance kicks in a couple of weeks) Should it be filled? How quickly should it be done if so and how much could it cost?

"Hey! You guys are all dentists!"

Er, anyways... my front tooth has been chipped for a while now, and there have been no ill effects other than it being annoying. So there's your anecdotal evidence in favor of "it'll be okay for a while!"

I chipped one of my back teeth last year and my dentist said just leave it. It was sore at first (the gum was all swollen and bruised) but that went after a week or so. I think unless it's causing pain or other problems then a dentist would want to leave it alone

Its not even like its chipped all the way, its just a samall portin of the front. But what I dont want to happen is for the tooth to be weakened and eventually chip. I amsking someone who knows what is usually done in this situations impirius dude, I mean jeez.

I had the same problem. I did a faceplant playing hockey and knocked a small edge off my tooth. If it truley is minor, your dentist should be a nice guy (read as: for free) and just grind down the sharp edges so it doesn't look so noticeable.

Tooth contouring/reshaping is cheapest, though you may experience some sensitivity initially. I think you may be able to get it filled as well. Other options include costly alternatives like porcelain veneers which you don't really need to consider but are mentioned for reference.

Whuh? Did my post offend you?

I once chipped one of my front teeth trying to get the last swig out of a wine bottle. (Don't drink if you've been drinking.) Saw the dentist for my regular checkup a few weeks later and he was able to fix it in about 10 minutes. Whatever material they use to fill it in, they put a UV light on it which makes it set instantly and it was as good as new; the repair was indistinguishable from my real tooth.

Ah, sorry, just a bit of lame grammatical humor. :D Glad to see your tooth hasn't actually chipped yet, btw.
