Callisto Protocol Revisted

The best death scene of the game

Better than the Dead Space Remake which added absolutely nothing besides a new coat of graphical paint.
DSR added a lot of new things actually.
For starters, Issac is no longer a mute protagonist.
the combat got a slight overhaul to be streamlined and smoother like DS2 and 3.
The anti-gravity sections were completely redone to be zero G section just like DS2 (in the OG you had to pick a spot to 'jump' to in the zero g areas)
They changed a couple characters around to better fit the story.
They also mention a lot more characters and references to existing dead space media like dead space downfall and extraction.

And my personal favorite: you can backtrack now. In the og you were stuck with wherever the train had you at, now that the game was streamlined to be one massive map, you can go back to a previous area if you forgot a collectable or something so the game is less linear.

DSR was a love letter to dead space fans.

Man I really wanted to like this one, it looked the part.

But I absolutely hated the combat. It was so lame. Playing dance dance revolution mini-game with your left stick to dodge everything and then taking turns attacking back and forth.... it was just weird and not fun.

Yet none of you bought it. RIP Bozo.

I bought it twice. 100% the trophy list around launch and recently re-bought it on steam while it was on sale for $30

Granted I've also bought TCP. But only because I found it in a bargin bin at walmart for $4 and boy, I did not care for it. Stopped playing after the first two hours.

I went against the grain and bought the game at launch and had fun with it, the visuals were amazing to me. I'm holding on to another play through with DLC for my October Halloween game list. Sometimes the over hate kills a game before it comes to fruition.

Yeah I liked the game. It seems like they ran out of time though, the game was supposed to have more enemy variety for one.
I would have liked to see a sequel where they improved on all the things lacking from the first.

Playing this now. This game is sick as fuck. If you grew up watching 80s dystopian sci fi like Running Man and Robocop, this is for you.

3x? But yeah, I'm really enjoying it. Just cool vibes. Reminds me of lots of 80s movies. I was in the mood for a relatively easy linear game.
I bought it 3 times too and I hate the fucking thing with passion.
1x on ps5
1x on pro again because I sold the previous version
1x on steam for no fucking reason. I ain't installing it :P

This is the worst thing about the internet. If a new IP isn't an absolute banger, online nerds want to tear it down and bury it. Instead we should focus on what worked, what should improve, and if the world building is worth exploring in future sequels.

We need to support games that we see potential in. Death Stranding (polarizing) -> DS2 (universally loved). Assassins creed 2 and Uncharted 2, both miles ahead or their original titles.

I would have loved for games like Callisto Protocol and The Order 1886 to have sequels. Unfortunately, when titles like these don't get any wide recognition until they are dirt cheap or free on a gaming subscription plan, their potential will forever remain unrealized.

I enjoyed the game when it first came out. I get that some people were surprised that it was more melee focused.
But then everyone started piling on it and hating it, it was a litte crazy. I just shrugged and did a NG+ run and had a lot more fun cause I had all the guns and stuff from the beginning.

On chapter 5. Game is definitely underrated. Don't get me wrong, its not flawless. Probably would give it an 8 at this point. Story is barely there and it could use a bit more variety or puzzles. But there's so much high quality art design, lighting, graphics work. Gameplay is pretty fun for the most part. If you had told me in 2022 this was the sci fi game from Barlog I wouldn't be shocked. I'm sure he would flesh it out a little bit more but this is probably one of the closest things I've seen from a 3rd party to the Sony design style. Seeing it in sci fi feels fresh. Surprised a brand new studio managed to get this out as their first game.

I like cutscenes in games and this ranks as one of the best when it comes to the performances. So many small details and nuances. Joshua Dumah is awesome and friends with Glen, was great in Glen's COD too.
I hope they get to work together again.

chapter 5 nice. so you only crawled the vents 27 times. 50 more to go!

Did they ever patch it so the game has less shimmy sections?

I swear there was far more on launch. It never felt overly done this second play through.

You probably just went through the game much faster than you did the first time. That sorta feeling happens sometimes when you're on a roll curbstomping everything :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Had to bump because I'm in linear action mode with Mafia around the corner and this seemed like a good one to revisit. I never did a NG+ run either.

Fantastic looking game.
Everything else was awful. I went into th3 game knowing nothing about it other than one of the creators of Dead Space was behind it. Combat did not feel good. The dodging mehanic was not well thought out. The story did not go anywhere. It's a worse version of dead space in all aspects but graphics. It failed for good reason.
You cant market a game as AAAA and deliver such an absolute turd.

Sorry for the necrobump.

I'm replaying the game currently on hardcore and the game is basically unplayable due to poor design decisions that become clear when you play Callisto Protocol on higher difficulty.

Game is clearly not made to be played on hardcore mode.

I read that on those modes you don't even bother with weapons- it's strictly focused on melee.

Which is why on my second play through I stuck with normal mode because I wanted to use the guns.

Ammo is so scarce that you can't even shoot the tentacles…

When the game first launched, there was a bug where you could play the game entirely in easy and then change it to the highest difficulty on the final boss to get the trophy/achievement for beating it, which they patched so now you need to play from start to finish in the highest mode.

That's the only way I was even gonna try it, lol.

Don't get me wrong, I did get the platinum on PS5 and PS4. I really liked the game for what it was.

But man, playing on the highest difficulties shows how it's poorly designed.

Game is still a looker on par with Death Stranding 2.

I think it gave me PTSD, bought SH2R on PC and the physical edition on PS5 to make up for it.
Also bought Alan Wake 2 twice...
It's still hard for me to accept that the franchise is canned again, I was so hyped for DS2 remake after I finished it... I even hoped it would be successful enough to warrant Motive ditching Dead Space 3 and make their own continuation of 2...

Fucking EA man... Dead Space deserved better.

First playthrough is a melee game.

NG+ is basically Resident Evil 4 / Dead Space, game is a complete 3rd person shooter, no melee ever needs to be used.

The face mo-cap is silly good given how little story or character interactions there are. Also best? Nah. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a generation above for example.

it has the full ray tracing effects, no compromise vs quality ?
Think Chuck is thinking of at launch options. Game has way more options now.

I know there's a full ray tracing 4k 60fps mode now for ps5 pro.

This and Days Gone never got a fair shot

Shitty internet nerds just went with

"We HaVe DeAd SpACe at HoMe"

And

"We HaVe LaSt of Us at HoMe"

Everyone wants something new but then doesn't give something new a chance. Just comparisons and setting a bar they won't live up to

Same reason we won't get Guardians of the Galaxy 2

What other games do you like, that others hate?

I ask that way I can avoid said games.

I kinda feel sorry for devs of such games. Pretty much everyone did a good job, but the important people, did not ask themselves if anything in it will be actually fun or interesting. Gameplay people can't really praise the super repetitive melee mechanics, and I doubt story people can enjoy the dull convoluted plot and empty characters. Visuals were good, but the tech, especially level design, was hold back by PS4 gen.
Wasted time for everyone involved. Devs and players as well.

Striking Distance Studio seems do not have shutdown, Schofield's wiki says he left, so I hope they have another shot at a single player game with a then different direction. We have too few big studios left that do those.
