I have a few files that I need to make backups of on CD/DVD

I have Four Unreal Engine 3.0 videos (quicktime format) from the Game Developers Conference saved on my hard drive..

I also have Photoshop 5.5 and Macromedia Fireworks

I have a DVD burner and blank CD and DVD discs

I have both Sonic MyDVD 4.5.2 and Nero 6

All the files are saved as "WinRAR Zip archive"...

When I want to play the vids or open the applications, I have to click on the file and it gives me that "40 days to register WinRar" thingy, extracts the video/apps and then it works from there...

So how do I make a DVD or CD backup of these files so I don't have to worry about registering WinRar??

Is this possible??

I need help ASAP...

Thank you

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Just download one of the many freeware ZIP clients out there. Decompress them before you plop them on DVD-R. Compressing a video which is using a compressed codec rarely saves much space anyways.

So how do I transfer these files to one of the freeware ones....and which ones should I use?
You can extract the files with winrar BEFORE you put it in the cd/dvd. Just right click > extract files > ok. That's it. You don't have to register anything.

1. You don't need to worry about registering WinRAR. You can use it as long as you want, you'll just get the nag screen everytime you use it.

2. You don't need to compress anything if you're burning to a DVD. ~4.3GB should be enough to hold it all. Just extract everything and sort them into different folders.

3. If you have Nero 6 just use the "StartSmart" program. It's insanely easy to use. Just go to Data->Make Data DVD. Nero Burning ROM opens up. From there just drag the files you want to burn into the left hand window. When you've dragged everything click the little button at the top that looks like a disc with a match in front of it to burn everything to DVD.

Thanks you guys :)

So with the UnrealEngine 3.0 video, I would like to create a DVD that can be played on a PS2

I went to Nero StartSmart and clicked on the "dvd" tab on the upper right hand corner but I dont know if I should make a "Data Disk" or perhaps a "Copy and Backup" disc...

Under Data Disc we have:

A)Make Data Disk

B)Format/Prepare Rewriteable Disk

And under Copy and Backup we have:

A)Copy Disk

B)Burn Image to Disk

For photoshop and Fireworks I would imagine I would just make a Data Disk and it should run on any computer with a DVD-ROM drive...

For the Unreal 3 Stuff, I specifically want it to be able to be played on a PS2, or better yet, any DVD player....

What do I do next?

You can make a watchable DVD under "Photo and Video". Click "Make Your Own DVD Video" and Nero Vison Express 3 pops up. Click "Add Video Files' and choose your files. Click Next when you're done and you'll go to a screen where you can setup the DVD menu. Click the menu area to change things. I suggest just changing the background to a solid color and changing the header text to something more applicable. Also if you click the "More" button at the bottom you can choose to start playback with the first video or the menu.

Click Next again when you're done and you'll get a menu that shows you how your remote will control the video, you don't need to alter anything here. Click Next again and you'll reach the burn options. Click the details button to see what settings the video will be encoded at. If you don't like them, click the More button at the bottom and then the "video options" button. If you're not in a hurry use 2-pass, if you don't want it to take forever just stick with one pass. My Athlon XP 2000 encodes at about realtime in 1 pass mode for reference.

Select the parameters for burning (destination, speed) on the right menus. Then click Burn at the bottom. The videos will be re-encoded first and then burned to DVD.

Dynamite Jim....you are a saint and a gentleman :)

So I went to nero express and I clicked on "advanced options"....lo and behold was the Photo and video option with "burn DVD video files" as a selection....now we are getting somewhere :D

So up pops Nero express, but when I press the "add" button and try to add the UnrealEngine3 Files, they dont show up in the folder!!!

So at the bottom is a drag down menu, it says" DVD-Video file types,[*.bup,*.vop,*.ifo]"

So then I select the other option in the drag down menu ("all files") and up pops"unreal3_demo1_Quicktime.mov"....but when I try to add it, a warning pops up and says "no compatible file found" :(

WTF?????

It it the fact its a quicktime .mov file the problem??

No, I tried using a QT file (used the Unreal 3 demos actually) and it added it just fine. You might need to update the programs. Open the StartSmart thing and click the fire icon in the bottom right. You can check to see if you have the latest versions of each program.

OK....checked it out, and I have an older version of nero 6....

I have:

Nero OEM version 6.3.0.3 (latest version is 6.6.0.8) and my InCD version is 4.1.0.1 (latest version is 4.3.11.1)

I am updating to Nero 6 Ultra Edition Major Update –Version 6.6 and hopefully that'll do the trick...

Thanks again.....wouldn't have know what the hell to do without ya :)
