Can I have some Prince of Persia: Warrior Within impressions.

psycho_snake

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I've been very interesting, but none of my friends have it and I dont have any impressions of the game. The reviews seem pretty positive, so Im going to hope your impressions are positive too :D

I would consider it as a Ninja Gaiden entry level game, meaning that it's a lot of fun but it's very easy and not as polished as NG.

Ive never had the chance to play NG unfortunately. Ive heard its very difficult. Is it more or less difficult than the first prince of Persia. If it is, I could probably complete the game with my eyes closed again:P

The game is real slick. Superb graphics with really nice level design. The platforming that made Sands of Time so good is in here too! Only this time it's even more of the fun! The game is around 15h long, quite challenging (on Normal). The fighting is much better than in SoT, but it's really not more fighting just because of that. You fight some here and there, meet a boss, kicks her ass and move along. It's definitely more platforming than fighting, take my word for it!

I'm so bad at writing impressions... just ask and I'll try to answer :D

NG is AGES better than PoP: WW as an action game.

PoP: WW is a great game ONLY because of the fantastic platforming. The fighting engine is STILL crap.

As for NG being difficult, it's not really that difficult. It's a challenging game but the main deal with it is how steep the learning curve is. Once you get done with the first few chapters and get the fighting system down, it's really not hard.

For instance, I found VJ and DMC harder than NG.

Here are my impressions from the PoP: WW thread:

I finished the game last night and was surprised it had a pretty good length. It must've taken me around 16 hours.

Here's my take on the positives and negatives:

+ Graphics: Nice graphics, but the main deal is that the quality remained about the same, albeit, this version had more slowdown than the previous. That said, the level architecture/design was simply superb. Majestic seems to be a proper word to describe it.

+ Platforming: Fantastic. Better than the first one in this respect. Some platforming/trap levels were created by truly sadistic individuals. I'd end up laughing at how ridiculously hard a section would seem many times. Fun stuff.

+ Animation: Great, just as the first.

= Sound: Same ol'. Nothing changed much here.

- Art: The art designers seemed to have been locked in a room with only RED CURTAINS. A little variety please. The areas, while varied, in architecture, were not very diverse in terms of their 'decoration'. Most enemy designs were decent, with a few being quite excellent (e.g. Dahaka, Sand Wraith.) Overall, I just didn't get the revamping they made to the game to make it mature. It just felt out of place considering this is the sequel to the Sands of Time.

- Puzzles: Too few localized puzzles. I would've liked more 'smaller' puzzles rather than the usual switches. These people have very good level/architecture design concepts, and I'm sure they could've done much better/varied puzzles to spice up the game a bit more.

- Story: Clichéd and unsurprising. Not a bad story, but I saw the twists coming very early in the game. The dialogue was uninspired and seemed to have been written by angsty adolescents. Get Mechner to pen the next PoP UbiSoft.

- Combat: Dear UbiSoft: PoP is about platforming and figuring out ways to go from one point to another. Any combat should not be intrusive. KThxBye! Anyway... the combat was just an extension of the first game's combat system (albeit much deeper,) but at times feels unresponsive and buggy, and some other times, the Prince feels like he's being controlled by Satan and driven to suicide, by means of jumping off a cliff. I, frankly, didn't care much for the combat until it became the obstacle to get to the next platforming area. Then it was just annoying and bothersome. The bosses seemed nice, until the end boss, which was just cheap and annoying.

--- Music: AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. Did I mention it was AWFUL? One of the worst soundtracks this generation. I usually don't mind when the music is unnoticeable. I just continue playing and the music just does nothing... plays in the background with no effect whatsoever. This game's music was so very annoying. Figure this: You go into a room, see the wonderful architecture and the imaginative platforming, and suddenly, a few enemies spawn. A rock riff lasting all of 4 seconds plays, and repeats itself until you beat all the enemies. Not only you have to deal with the flaky buggy combat, but you have to stand the awful music. The first game's (PoP: SoT) music felt organic and fitting. The sequel's music feels uninspired, forced and incredibly repetitive.

Deepthroats impressions sound good, but Im not sure I can trust a chelsea fan :D . Thats what I expected the game to be like anyway. Im not upset that the way the story was told has gone, but is the stroy any better than the first one?

We're really nice once you get to know us ;D

The story is much better this time IMO. I could barely hear what the character was saying in Sands of Time but know it's perfect, with subtitles and all. The story has some nice twists too. And there is two endings as well. One short and one long. I recommend everyone to get that second ending. You can unlock videos, art of characters, weapons and environments and stuff too, so the last appeal is great.

Without hijacking the thread can some one tell me the best console to get it on, i am gessing ps2 is the "worst" as usual so Xbox or GC. I would rather the xbox controler but i would just like some small impressions!

IGN says:

Winner Ranking:
1. Xbox
2. PC
3. GameCube
4. PlayStation 2

For Xbox you have better graphics, better sound, widescreen support, xbox live enabled bonus mode -- with downloadable content.

Thanks Deepthroat, Xbox it is then.

Lovely graphics, improved gameplay, much lengthier, somewhat harder, trickier environments, less obvious solutions.

In every way that counts, it's better than the original.

The combat is still terrible, and prevalent (though broken up more), the art style isn't nearly as surreal, and the music is now g-d awful.

Disappointing in some ways, well done in others.
