Ubisoft has announced that its metroidvania game, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, has achieved well over two million players.

An exact number for the player base was not provided.

Fuck this game for bugging out and keeping me from a platinum trophy.

This game really tries to be a better Hollow Knight... and it achieves that, the controls are AMAZING, the moviment is SUBLIME.... and the story is one of the most disappointing things Ive witnessed. Setup is amazing, payoff is a wet fart.

well, that's par for the course for the series tbh.
I think it still had one of the better stories of the series.

and in a hilarious twist also a story that could be seen as anti-woke, then the game got tons of being woke allegations before launch... meanwhile it's about a queen that sucks at being a ruler and stole the throne from a way better male ruler and his son. and ends with you kicking her from the throne.

Good gameplay, good map overall. Design of main character is just rough, luckily you can make him wear leopard panties.

Didnt they close the studio that made this?

To my understanding they didn't close the studio per se. I think the more adequate term to it would be shuffling devs who were a part of The Lost Crown team to other projects, meaning they don't work on a solo project but they rather act as a support to multiple games that are in development

This.

The gameplay is fast and smooth as butter, vibration/haptics are well implemented, level design is good but...that Mickey mouse, abhorrent Marvel-like art direction and character design is just...fuck man, horrible, horrible stuff...

Also: story ? what story ?

It really is one of the best Metroidvanias out there but the Americanized cartoony art-direction bullshit and simple tech behind it doesn't suit it at all.

One of the best Metroidvanias in the last decade. Very high quality game and proof that Ubi can put out bangers if they just give a fuck.

That's so sad to see that number, even if it was sales, let alone players.
PoP: The Lost Crown was one of the best metroidvanias of my life and really loved it and think it deserved much better.

This was my first like this, what's next you recommend? I got Metroid dread ready for when switch 2 comes

Yeah I like Metroidvanias and I like PoP but the moment they revealed it with the Fortnite visuals and rap music it went into the "wait for Ps+" list.
Also $50, lol you aren't Nintendo. Most people won't pay $50 for a metroidvania.

After all the hype I finally tried it and it was just meh. The art style is not for me, the story was below average, I didn't like the music, and I just didn't think the abilities were anything amazing.

I tried it on Playstation, PC, and also there is also a cracked version available for free for Android floating around out there. As a mobile game, honestly it was the most fun I had with it. They nailed the modified touch controls ..

A game like this getting 2M should be a big success.

Problem is the budget was more, they expected way more sales and charged I think $60 or 70 cdn for it. I forget but it wasn't full priced but wasnt bargain priced either.

UBI got greedy and over budgeted the game. No wonder they shut down the studio who made it.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is great.
amazing artstyle, fun platforming, fun combat.
and it has a very good Switch port.

the first Ori is divisive due to the combat, so I'd say Will of the Wisps is a safer bet

Metroid Dread is an excellent game so you can't go wrong there. Otherwise I would recommend Ori and the Blind Forest & Will of the Wisps. Very high quality and looks and runs great on the Switch. Then you have Bloodstained Ritual of the Night if you want something akin to Castlevania and Symphony of the Night ( avoid the Switch-version if you can, it has performance issues). And if you want something a bit more difficult and hardcore I recommend Blasphemous 1 & 2. These are all excellent Metroidvanias.

I wanted to support this and buy instantly but that art direction, whole look and kind of dull atmosphere of the demo turned me off hard. Went in excited and was like eehhhhhhh...

I've come to realize I borderline hate 2.5D. It always lacks atmosphere and flair to me somehow.

"Players". Not sales. Which is unfortunate.
Why? They run a service that is 18 bucks per month. But I am betting this milestone was reached because of those who subbed for a month to play AC shadows and tried this game.

I would have thought that these are very disappointing numbers for a Ubi game. Bomba-tier, even.
I was very surprised when pretty much all the user comments I read about it were very positive, enthusiastic even. From the presentation, it looked like the most soulless nostalgia cashgrab even Ubi could come up with. I still have to play it, waiting for a good sale (we're not exactly starving for metroidvanias).
