Can you record from MDs optical output into a PC/Mac, keeping the track names etc? Do MD walkmen output optically, and do they protect the outputs?

A colleague at work wants to get his MDs onto his PC so he can mp3 them and also make CDs for his car.

The best best is to save the output through Wave Editor and then compress it with lame... or the mp3 encoder of your choice.

MD Walkmen generally only input optically. Heck, most MD portables don't even do that nowadays and opted instead for just a USB input for NetMD. Maybe the top of the line portables or home units would output optically. But the one I have only has one output - the headphone jack.

Hi-MDs do allow upload via USB, AFAIK.
