With two national b-day's coming up, what does everyone have planned for this weekend? I ask both out of curiosity and beacuse I can't think of a single thing to do in B.C.

I'm thinking about going to some free concerts down at Toronto's harbourfront (Feist mainly). If not then I'm just going to catch up on some sleep.

I spent all my money in Montreal for Quebec's Nat'l holiday (la St-Jean-Baptiste), so I'll probably just go down to Lake Simcoe in Barrie and watch the fireworks.

I'm flying to Omaha, NE tonight to spend the 4th with my girlfriend's family. I haven't been to Nebraska in the summer before, should be interesting.

My buddy has this connection with some guy who has commercial grade fireworks, so we're going to make all the kids jealous. :D Lots of boozin', lots of grillin', just the usual. Best part is, Monday's an American holiday.

WTF...you work now?!?

I'm going to a tribute band concert tomorrow night, covering Rush's awesome 2112 album from start to finish. Friday I'll be watching my newly purchased copy of Jaws...might watch Jaws 2 and Open Water as well, depending on how I feel. Other then that I'll be tidying up my room and getting my laundry done, as the following weekend will be even busier (attending the Molson Indy Toronto all three days, then a free concert being done by my high school friend Shawn Hewitt).

I have to work all Independence day... big sidewalk sale going on at the mall so it's going to be super fucking busy. :(

We'll probably have a small family Canada Day barbecue. People looked at us weird when we broke out the sparklers at our place last year... "uh... you guys are a few days early!" :lol

Have any of you guys ever been to the Fourth of July concert + fireworks in Washington DC? It's the one they always broadcast on PBS. I might be going, but I'm not sure if I want to brave the crowds. Is it worth it?

Wow, this band must be good if they can cover Rush. Hell, the band could be considered good even if they could only capture 25% of what Rush is capabile of on stage, heh.

Can't say I can get into many Rush songs, but Neil Pert owns every single drummer out there. Quite literally, every single one.

FriendShip Fesitival I guess. July 1st-July 5th. 6 days of partying and music.

Edit: just checked the lineup. A Hip cover band, Loverboy, and Sloan. :lol The festival [/i]used[/i] to be good. :(

Going to the driving range with my girlfriend... come back and throw the football with her (she likes golf and football :D)...then I'm going to take her out to a restaurant. Finally, we'll go see some fireworks on Parliament Hill.

I leave for Hawaii the next day at 5 am :lol.

I'm working the morning shift on the 4th. 3-1130am! Then I'll probably sleep for a bit and maybe catch some fireworks in the evening.

Sleeping in, but perhaps only long enough to go buy an egg mcmuffin. Then cleaning my room and maybe watching fireworks, since they'll be done right in front of my house for the county.

Zach Hill says "I respectfully disagree." Listen to some Hella.

Anyway, in what I find to be a funny bit of irony, I'm spending Independence Day in Canada. Woot.

I'm really interested in seeing how close they can get. 2112 is an absolute bitch with all the different speeds and notes, so I imagine they'll have a bunch of screwups, or play a lot slower. No one's gonna mind though.

And you're damn right about Peart...being fortunate enough to see them twice, it's a privileage to see this guy perform on the skins. I really feel sorry for the drummer tonight. :lol

BBQ and fireworks are in order for this Canada Day - and enjoying the fact that I'll be getting paid for a full days worth of work :)

Looks like they'll be some BBQ action tonight...seen some hot dog and burger buns in the kitchen. Very cool. Jaws and burgers...how can you beat that?

And the performance by the tribute band last night was absolutely incredible. The U2/Joshua Tree performance I saw a couple months ago was outstanding, though there were a couple of small mistakes. The guys last night fucking nailed 2112 though...it was pretty close to flawless, and all done at full speed too. The drummer was absolutely insane...about the only thing he didn't do was twirl the sticks or flip 'em in the air.

I'm stunned they covered that album (along with other Rush songs) as well as they did...I can't imagine the hard work that went into it. One cool touch was that one of the guitarists (they had three on stage) used a couple of guitars loaned to them by Alex Lifesson himself. He must've felt like King Shit doing that awesome Spirit of Radio rift on Lifesson's strings. Fantastic show, and for 12 bucks Canadian it's an absolute steal in terms of entertainment value.

The next three albums they plan to cover are AC/DC's Back in Black, The Beatles' Abbey Road, and Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here (I might attend this one). My one regret is that I missed their performance for The Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed a few months ago, which based on the last two performances must've been incredible.
