Yep, JetsGo (One of Canada's Budget Airlines) has officially gone under...stranding 17,000 passengers around the world.

The airline has advised passengers, including people in the middle of a trip, that their tickets are worthless and they should book with another airline.

Well, thanks for that, assholes. Real nice to inform people of that NOW

Competitor WestJet has offered stranded Jetsgo passengers and crew special fares, while both CanJet and Air Canada have warned space is low on their flight schedules.

This is half true. While Westjet is offering lower rates for stranded passengers, they are not doing so with people with existing JetsGo tickets.

I know this because myself and other students out here on the East Coast were flying out too Edmonton for the National Debating Championships, and were flying out JetsGo (Back Air Canada). So, we had to sink into our funding and reschedule tickets with Air Canada. Anyone else have family/travel plans affected by this? I know that they recently had a $1 seat sale, and with it being March Break a lot of people would be looking to go on vacation cheaply, so JetsGo are idiots for not warning people about this.

This would be a kickass marketing opportunity for other small airlines. Pay $50 and we'll fly you, etc. People would jump on them like hot cakes.

That's awful!
That's pretty irresponsible, just packing up and leaving.
At least they did it overnight, so any of the planes already in the air didn't have to give their passengers parachutes and wish them the best of luck as they pushed them off.

I can't say I'm surprised. We flew Jetsgo when we went to Cuba last month and it was HORRIBLE. You get what you pay for I guess.

I know someone who was set to fly across the country, leaving this morning. We saw the story and broke the news to them just before midnight. They were pissed.

I'd heard a lot of horror stories about them being crappy (and habitually late), so it's maybe not a big surprise. They were also about to be investigated for safety and operational concerns, and I think that maybe that made a major creditor a bit nervous and may have led to this. Other than their craptacular service and that investigation, there was little else to foreshadow this.

I would bang a hot farmer!
My brother is a fueler at Pearson International here in Toronto and he told me months ago that JetsGo wouldn't be around much longer because they were having problems paying their fuel bill.

Yeah...I was weary about JetsGo in the first place, but it was dirt cheap and allowed us to send more people out west. So, it was the only real option financially...although now we've gone ahead and spent a fortune to allow us to fly out anyways.

So, anyone in Edmonton who wants to strategically drop their life savings allowing us to find them and help fund our club next year, we'll be on the UofA campus all day Saturday!

so they aren't giving refunds or anything? Isn't that illegal? I thought that purchasing a ticket was a form of contract.

It's not illegal when a company folds and files for bankruptcy protection from their creditors. The only people who will see their money are those who bought their tickets through a travel agent and those who used a credit card to buy the tickets.

:lol :lol :lol

Shit like this has made me hate corporations all the more. The last few weeks they had no problem advertising their $1 specials all over radio, constantly moving up the deadline for these sweetheart deals. Even on Thursday afternoon I could still hear these ads. For these clowns to just shut shit down like that on the eve of the biggest travel period of the year is fucking evil. Someone's ass needs to fucking roast for this. But this being pussy ass Canada, I'm sure all those fucking suits will be handled with kid gloves. Fucking corrupt ass system.

Cheap airlines look like a great deal on the surface, but man can you suffer. Flew out to BC on Tango a couple years back and I was litterly 'twisted' for the first week of the trip. :/

They cram as many seats into those buggers as they can. I guess it's fine if you're a smaller/petite person...

My Grandmother was stranded in Florida yesterday because of this. She had to shell out another $600 to get a flight home on another airline. Luckily, she bought her JetsGo tickets through a travel agent so she has some kind of flight cancellation insurance.

So ridiculous.
And you just know that last week they knew they were going under when they put up those deals. That's just stealing. They should be put in jail. Seriously.

Anyone who ordered tickets with a credit card, even, are going to be reimbursed, since they paid for a service they didn't receive. The problem is more for those who are stranded, since they will not be getting that money back for quite some time. Also, even when they get the money back, the JetsGo tickets were likely dirt cheap and it would cost much more to fly with another airline.

EDIT: nvm.. It ain't that bad.

In response to these unfortunate events we would like to offer all affected Jetsgo passengers (no matter where they booked their original tickets) a $15 per person mail-in rebate if they rebook their roundtrip flights on this website.
