Can't print black and white documents unless I have color print cartridges installed?

Alright here's the problem.

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820, and I need to print a document out right now. The only problem is that I'm all out of COLORED ink, but my BLACK ink cartridge is more than 75% full. The document is all text, so all I need is black ink, right? I guess not, because the printer will not print ANYTHING unless I have a full colored ink cartridge installed. Everytime I go to print a document, a screen pops up where it basically says "You're out of colored ink, so buy some from our website or you're not going to be printing shit until then."

Here's an image of this shitty occurence.

So... I'm not going to be able to print anything without colored ink, am I?

On the printer at work, we have an option to choose "Print black an White" only -- perhaps that'll work for you? Should be listed in the printer tab properties before you choose to print, check some of the tabs.

I had the exact same problem with my Epson printer and I even made a similar thread asking about it, I'm afraid you're out of luck :(

I tried that "Black and White" only thing, but it still gives me the same problem.

No shit? Well thanks for getting to me so quickly, now I don't have to waste any more time.

Oh well, I'll have to print this thing somewhere else.

Same problem here; it's a load of crap if you ask me, I will never buy another Epson product again because of this BS.

I've had that problem on my Canon printer, too. On both that printer and an old Epson we had, you could force the printer to print by hitting the form feed button when it displays the error on the screen.

I've dealt with some canon printers that you don't need both catridges. Too bad canon makes the shittiest printers on earth.

I would just get the refillable catridges. Fuck that, $50 for ink is bullshit.

I think all printers are like this. I have a HP and it does the same thing.

Yes, this shit is seriously wrong.

My epson printer, aside from using fucking gallons of ink i swear to god, decided to pull this shit on me once at 3:40 A.M.. "oh really!? not enough color ink to print a 10 page term paper due within' 5 hours!?" I had been working on the paper all day and i nearly had a mental breakdown at that point. After panicking for an hour or so, I eventually decided to throw it on a diskette and attempt sneak it onto one of the college library computers for printing the next day. Thankfully, it worked, but fuck inkjet printers, fuck 'em.

I think i fixed that once by deleting the drivers from my computer and reinstalling them, after that it would let me print in black and white again. ^^

Uninstall the driver and install the local windows drivers for an Epson 820, not the Epson ones and make sure it's defaulted to back and white. Also, don't have an empty colour cartridge in place.

my Canon won't let you print in black and white either. If you tell it you have a black and white cartridge, it will default to grayscale. Grayscale printing != black and white printing. So, when we want to print something we have to hit ignore on the "color cartridge not detected!" screen.

I get like 10 cartridges for $50 on ebay.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I never had this problem with the crappy lexmark printers that dell used to pack in. I have a Epson printer with those six individual ink cartridges... I thought it was not meant to be a problem on this printer either but I haven't had a chance to find out yet.
