Capcom announces The Disney Afternoon Collection for PS, XB1 and PC [Port beg = ban]

It's clear what Capcom is going for with the games/IPs included. I know Aladdin had a show too but these 4 shows are much more closely tied together in that afternoon/afterschool block.

Those screenshots are gorgeous. With how they're bringing it forward in HD it looks more like a Shovel Knight "recreation" of the style vs. standard emulation.

I've never played any of these games so I'm excited to do so

Surprised, though pleased, they got the DuckTales sequel included. I've heard so much about the first game (and I own and love the WFT's Remastered version in particular), but I've hardly hear anything about the second.

Another game it will be delisted in 3 years.

If you're referring to the Castle of Illusion remake, that was published by Sega, not Capcom. For comparison's sake, Capcom and WFT's DuckTales Remastered is still available; so I presume they may have a longer / more permanent lifespan on digital avenues.

Switch port begging sure is going to make a lot of threads fun over the next few months.

lol yup, speaking of which...

Is there a Switch version of the Wii U in the rain image? If not someone needs to make one because it's going to get a lot of use.

I got you fam

Wow, when someone here wished for an NES Disney collection as Digital Eclipse's (I assume they're handling this?) next project, I never imagined it would come to pass.

Brilliant collection. I never owned DuckTales 2 but rented it enough that I probably should have found a way to buy it. Same with Rescue Rangers 2. Given the classic treatment of all the games I'm stoked. Bummed about no Switch release but I'll get enough use out of the PS4 version. I'm assuming it's a financial instead of a technical reason for no switch release. If that's true then it could come over at a later date if the Switch really takes off.

Confused by this:

All six games are new and improved HD versions of the originals and feature a number of filtering options that replicate a classic retro look and feel.

This sounds contradictory. The screenshots above look pretty much directly akin to the NES (okay, 4:3 borders aside). What am I missing?

Have you looked at the prices for some of these lately, particularly Chip & Dale 2 and Ducktales 2? It's unreasonable to expect the average customer to pay those prices. It's nice that Capcom managed to talk Disney into making a collection.

Yeah it's nice, but look at what Wayward forward done with Duck Tales Remastered, same game but effort put into it. Wouldn't you prefer that?

This is awesome! Blows my mind that it isn't coming to Switch as well. I'd take this on Switch over an overpriced and slightly tweaked SF game from forever ago. Weird as hell decisions by Capcom on that front.

Day f'ing 1 for this collection on PS4. So, being the original NES versions, are they straight ports or did Capcom make a NES emulator for PS4/X1?

I would assume they run at native 1080p (or higher?) but with options like scanlines for those who want the feel of CRT.

Of course, but beggars can't be choosers in this case. I'd rather the ability to play the game legitimately than not at all.

The goal they've set for themselves with these collections (Mega Man was first) is to provide the original games in HD, and make them look how they did in magazine screenshots. The original games in the cleanest/prettiest way possible

The filter options are just to take that image and add "retro" looks with scanlines and such. As an optional feature on top of the HD process

Because preservation is important and old licensed titles, even classics such as these, are rarely ported to modern platforms? I think that's a pretty good reason.

People expect too much for these older games to keep on being brought back when ever new tech arrives. Like I commented to someone else, I vastly prefer a Duck Tales Remastered level of effort put into these games coming back instead of their original states. Modern gamers would be much more interested in them if they had extra effort put into their return.

What's contradictory ? These are old games, now improved to render in HD (1080p according to the trailer).

Because it's not really *using* HD, unless those screenshots above are a filtered version and an unfiltered one has more significant upscaling (which might well be in the "what I'm missing" I alluded to earlier).

Huh, I guess they must've been able to negotiate for this during the process that led to MVC Infinite.

Never played any of Capcom's disney games but this is cool. I know Ducktales 2 is super rare and obscure compared to its predecessor.

I wonder if they'll ever release Goof Troop at some point. Shinji Mikami's first game!

There is no official NES version of Aladdin. Theres a pirated version that Capcom had nothing to do with.
you're telling me this is not an official game? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CqGfNci6Q4
It's amazing if pirates were able to port it just like that from SNES. I've completed it in the '90s on a NES clone where the game was available on cartridge. Funny considering that console had adverts on TV and back in the day no one knew it wasn't an offcial product (NES wasn't available in Poland).

Because they are fantastic games, specially Chip n' Dale.

Great NES games yes, but if you truly want these titles to return and be accepted by modern gamers, giving them a chance to come back as more modern updated titles or even preferably newer titles would be far more beneficial.
Nostalgia will be good for a few, but we need Disney games to come back for the masses, back when these games were at the top with other AAA titles.

So, is it safe to assume that this is the other HD collection that was hinted at in the Mega Man thread?

As awesome as this is... I would still rather see a MMX HD collection.

That's not a Capcom game though.

Yeah. Theres some pretty good unofficial NES pirates out there.

Yeah, DuckTales 2 and Rescue Rangers 2 are pretty expensive these days.

TaleSpin is by far the weakest of the lot, but still okay. Darkwing Duck in particular is pretty much Mega Man 5.5.

yes!
but to be perfect it should have also contained
aladdin (any version really)
lion king (any version really)
maui malard in cold shadow (any version)

but one can only dream..

It'd be pretty weird to have a new NES game in 1995 based on a '92 film.

If this sells well hopefully there's a chance we may get a second collection of:
Bonkers
Goof Troop
Aladdin
Lion King
Mickey's Magical Quest
Mickey's Magical Quest 2

I'd say Mickey Mania as well but I don't think that was Capcom, was it? What other Disney games were on the SNES? I know Magical Quest had a third Japam-only game.
