Capcom have finally climbed back up to the top this gen.

I don't think there's any other publisher or developer who has managed to create so many masterpieces in a such small timespan. This is yet another proof of how great Capcom are.

Who has expected RE2 to win Metacritic's highest rated new game of 2019 award?

Or that my boys Dante, Nero and V will finally get the respect they deserve:

Bonus points for Norman Reedus NTR-ing Koji-kun and going with Itsuno-sama. <3

Oh, and also Monster Hunter: World which served some nice crow to all of you naysayers in order to become CAPCOM's best selling game ever!

Let's not forget the awesomeness of the RE Engine, which without any bias or prejudice is the single best piece of technology ever forged by the hands of a human being:

All this in the course of less than 3 years. A true miracle that only the best of the best can provide.

CAPGODS indeed.

I was wishing for a Dragon's Dogma sequel... my favorite capcom game of late is just playing dragon's dogma all over again on new consoles.

Capcom has been amazing this gen. Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite was as mainstream as it goes though. It was basically a bunch of Hollywood movie characters in their roster. It didn't last very long in the tournament scene either.

They've fallen short when it comes to introducing new IPs (or reviving long-dead ones) but otherwise yeah they're doing great.

I want a Breath of Fire game but I understand why that almost definitely will never happen.

Given the climate though and what they've shown their strengths are, I'm a little surprised that something like Dino Crisis isn't being considered for a comeback. I... know next to nothing about it, but I've got a friend who's a big fan and it sounds like something up their alley right now.

This is the Capcom I grew up with and love!

And what warms my heart is that modern Capcom is exactly what I expected them to be when I was a kid. High end graphics and all, but the same focus on gameplay and that charming japanese take on western themes they always had.

Joke thread? They haven't launched a single new series this generation (last one was Dragon's Dogma in 2012) and most of the stuff they release this days are just collection of older games.
Their output last gen wasn't good but at least they tried do something new from time to time.

Capcom has always put out some of my favorite games each generation.

NES - Mega Man
SNES - Street Fighter II, Breath of Fire
GBA - Zelda Minish Cap
PS1 - Resident Evil 1, 2, 3
PS2/GameCube - RE4, REmake, Okami
PS3 - Dragon's Dogma
PS4 - RE2, RE7 VR, Street Fighter V, Monster Hunter World

Aside from not giving european switch players the retail versions of anything, everything else was cool

We'll keep pretending Umbrella Corps never existed

You do know that the 'engine' video you linked primarily showcases Houdini, right?
I would be interested in how they make use of it in-engine but just by skipping through I haven't found much about RE engine at all.

That being said, I agree OP. Capcom used to be great, then had several years of bad releases. Now they are back in full force, and it seems due to having established a great tools pipeline.

My holy grail capcom release would be a updated port of Street a fighter Alpha Anthology (ps2) with the psp alpha 3 double upper added.

The iron galaxy Darkstalkers collection ported to current gen consoles, and of course some sort of Marvel collections.

I'm glad Capcom bounced back though

I'm glad that Capcom is still around and thriving. There are so few major companies left from the early days of gaming. They maybe don't always make the best decision on how to repackage classics and at what price to sell them for, but hey, these days they're one of the few companies left that have classics to repackage at all!

Agreed.

So glad to see a proper DMC sequel especially. They're on a roll, with butter and a steak entree with a side of rice pilaf.

I hope we see more DMC games in the very near future.

I'm so glad Capcom is back to its top form! (at least to my liking) - now only if Konami can comeback to its former glory.... :(

Yep, they went from being called Crapcom to pretty much the opposite of that.
But I would like for them to chill out with remasters. I do like them, but come on Capcom, there's so much more franchises in your possesion that you could revive/make a sequel.
Some new IP's would be great too.

We only need Dino Crisis return, then Capcom will jump from Capgod to Capgodofthegods

Just imagine if every fallen good ol sh start rising again
Konami to Godnami with re2make and RE7, dmcv level games for MGS, castlevania, silent Hill

They nailed everything except Switch, there it is still Crapcom: to go from Capcom Five to this is a bit embarassing.

Oh and fighting games also they have a lot to improve on that still.

Besides that yeah they produced some of the best games of this gen, it's good to see RE great again.

*Looks at Nintendo*

Only new IP they released this gen was Arms (?) and look what happened there. Capcom have made a massive comeback from the tail end of last generation and it's they are putting out much more quality than quantity right now. The only thing they haven't done much of is supporting the Switch but I can't blame them for that lol.

Aside from them not introducing any notable new IP's that I can think of I definitely agree.

They were the reverse Bioware for me. Entered this gen not too interested in capcom and very hyped to see what Bioware was going to make, and now I'm ending this gen with Bioware in a state of irrelevance while I'm very hyped to see what Capcom will do next gen.

Capcom recently removed their horseshit CPU eating cheat protection that didn't protect against jack shit from Monster Hunter World on PC.

Lesser companies would have stuck to their guns at the expense of consumers.

Who is counting SFV as a win? The release of the 60$ Early Access Version was one of the reasons it was called "Crapcom" in the first place this generation.

So they had 2 or 3 good sequels/remakes. Ok but I'm not going to suck capcom's dick just for that. They really didnt do a whole lot and none of it was anything new or original.

Personally I'd rather have seen a new asuras wrath than devil may cry.

Capcom's resurgence has been great. Resident Evil 3 remake looks phenomenal and Resident Evil 8 and Dino Crysis will probably be fantastic too

I like how you conveniently mention Nintendo but don't bother writing about all the other competing developers (in Japan and elsewhere) that unlike Capcom never stopped creating new IPs.
Capcom developing quality games for already existing series doesn't change the fact that they've completely ceased producing new franchises ripe with original concepts and ideas.

They also seem to be working on fixing the Street Fighter V netcode sync issue.

Once they fix it, with the upcoming Tournament Mode and having basically all its DLC content thank to Street Fighter V Champion Edition update (you can buy it as $30 a new game starting on mid Feb. or with an already existing $25 DLC upgrade) Street Fighter V is going to be the best fighting game of the generation, too.

Who is counting SFV as a win?
Me. Had a weak launch with different issues and lacked content, but now this netcode issue is the only remaining important issue in the game, everything else is great and now has a ton of features and content. They did an epic comeback with this game.

But even considering these issues, back at launch already was a super fun game with great visuals. It wasn't a bad game at all.

It's fun. I like Venom, but it doesn't feel like a wholesome Marvel vs Capcom game. I liked watching Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and there were awesome sounds, combos, and characters. It felt better than Street Fighter x Tekken, but as popular as that game got. FChamp, Jwong, ChrisG, PR Balrog, Yipes, more and more. It didn't give Marvel or MAHVEL fans a lot of excitement. It's awesome, but you also had to watch another Evo to get that. I had zero clue it was even being played. I love Japan's arcade scene or tournament scene because they give a lot of games attention. Hokuto No Ken and various other fighting games had tournaments. Of course there are more and more underground tournaments or tournaments that no one really knows about unless they're at the right place at the right time. I like Melty Blood and I figure a lot of tournaments happen every year. It just isn't exactly known. When MvC3 was the only vs fighter out there, you had all types of fights to watch (money matches, grudge matches, and of course weekly tournaments). I don't feel like Infinite brought that to the fighting game scene.

I don't even think having SonicFox playing it could have saved it. I feel like that's what happen to Injustice 2. He stopped playing it and it felt like the game wasn't that popular anymore. This is just my own opinion about it though.

You are right about the feel overall. Not having X-Men in a Marvel game really blows. I was just surprised how good and different it plays given how poorly it was received. A better cast of characters and visual style with this engine could have been awesome. I've really enjoyed their fighting games this gen but I miss the creativity, artistry, and volume of output they had in the 90's.

Not to mention he left out Labo and Ring Fit Adventure. Snipperclips and The Stretchers are also new IP published by Nintendo, though they aren't developed internally.
