Capcom kind of screws GC RE fans (NOT RE4 related)

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
Finally saw the PURE EVIL pack at Gamestop today. It's hawt. Seriously, that's some tempting packaging to people and a good price to boot ($30 for RE0 and REmake). But...this is somewhat geared to people who want to play or own the whole RE series in relation to the upcoming release of RE4. Why the f*ck wouldn't you put the other two games that have been released on the console and charge say $50 for the whole package?

Granted, the other two ports are criminal. Zero enhancements. But their also unreasonably rare at this point for someone who would simply like to have the whole collection on their GC. If you find the other two at the store, you'll be paying 30-40 each for a game that hasn't been optimized for the system in the least. Perhaps that's the rationale for not including them in some sort of Biohazard Complete package for GC gamers in the US, but it seems awful shitty to whatever fanbase exists for the games or is about to be created by the newest sequel.

Booo Capcom.

Are teh boxes tainted with that stupid Player's Choice label?

I don't know. But here's the thing...the hardcore collector probably bought the bad ports when they were released and the originals (so no labels). The new player just wants to play all 5 games.

Yea, exactly my point. Get gouged on eBay or get lucky in retail. Would it have cost them that much to reprint the two?

Yes.

The whole reason the games were $40 instead of $20 is because Nintendo still ass-rapes publishers with royalty fees. Sure, you can get them lowered - if you add GBA connectivity to your title.

Jesus, that's dumb. I didn't know that was still such an issue in cases like that.

Tell me about it. I finally tracked them down earlier in the year and I had to fight tooth and nail with the manager of a Gamestop to get them.

I kept checking Gamestop's website at least once a week for a year trying to see when a particular store got them in stock (if ever). They finally did. Long story short, I showed up, grabbed the cases off the shelf, stood in line and asked to buy them. The manager waited on me, confiscated the boxes and said "We had these? Sorry, I can't sell them to you I'm buying them!" Needless to say I was downright outraged. I called the district manager a few days later and it turns out the guy still hadn't bought them. He was waiting for his paycheck. The DM gave him quite a talking to. Then when I showed up to buy them the manager acted like "how dare you call the DM"....as if I was the one who had done something wrong!!! Meanwhile when he refused to sell them to me days earlier I told him that I was going to call the DM and that he should just sell them to me now to avoid getting in trouble and he refused.

Do you really think Capcom released ports of five year old games for $40 because they were greedy? IIRC the original idea was to release them for $29, but since they didn't qualify as a "compilation" (like the Mega Man release) they were slapped with higher royalty fees, which caused Capcom to have to release them (and Code Veronica) at $40.

Manabyte: Why didn't they release RE2, RE3, and Code: Veronica all in one set then? I bet that would have "qualified" as a compilation. :P

Booo Capcom.

Other THREE you mean. Don't forget about Code: Veronica X. :)

But yeah, it's really stupid that all three titles were released at $40 each and that RE2 and RE3 are already "rare." I got them both for $40 total when they came out; Gamestop had a trade-in deal and I took some games I got from work for a few dollars each and got full credit from them to get both RE2 and RE3, but those were ridiculous prices for unenhanced PORTS.

I just wish I could get rid of Biohazard and Biohazard Code: Veronica X now so I could have all the RE games on the GC in English. The Japanese text doesn't bother me in the slightest; I just don't like having a collection of games between two region formats. ^_^;

There was a pack like that in Japan though. CAPCOM USA never wanted RE on GCN and it's evident in thier pricing of RE2 & RE3 (there WAS a budget GCN game pricing model, but they chose full price instead and then complained on poor sales and therefore didn't lower the price or re-issue them making them harder to find), bad advertising of RE and sending mixed signals by bringing over the lame RE Gun Survivor game just to re-assure PS2 owners that RE would eventually end on PS2...and look what happened...Outbreak, a sequal to Outbreak AND RE4. All that and they purposly tried to sabotoge GCN sales & GCN RE4 sales by announcing the PS2 version not only before the game released for GCN...but also before the holiday shopping season.

Got RE2 and RE3 in a lucky restock from The Rage - $29.99. Thought it'd be wise to pick up CV:X at the same time, but that set me back $39.99

I have never heard that...those are SCEA's rules...not Nintendo's rules. There was a budget pricing model well in place on GCN when those games released...it's just that CAPCOM USA *hated* the fact these games weren't on the the "home" system with the highest user-base and then they turn around and say Nintendo purposly charged them higher royalties just to make it seem like they had no choice. I remember there were games being released on GCN for $20 or $30 after RE Zero released and before RE2 & RE3 were.

What an asshole!!

Any pics of the Pure Evil pack? I don't have Remake or RE0, and this sounds temping.

The budget model wasn't in place for GameCube when RE2 & 3 were released. Capcom could've bundled both games for $40 (they announced each would be $20 at E3) but it was their decision ultimately not to and charge $40 (blaming Nintendo instead for forcing the higher price tag). NOA's budget structure went into place in early 2003.... Capcom could release each game at $10 if they wanted to since then.

Sure would be nice. I always kind of wanted to have a complete GC RE collection. They should release all 6 games with a nice artbox ala dvds. That would be tooo sweet. ^_^

Don't have any photos but the packaging does have the fugly Player's Choice logo on them with the 2 cases in this high quality cardboard sheath similiar to what some SE DVDs are coming in these days. Also, each Pure Evil set comes with it's own coupon code and a URL for you enter the code and receive a free playable demo of RE4.

i'm sorry, but having played no RE game except remake for about 5 minutes, and having seen how good RE4 looks, if i saw a REmake/REO pack for $50-60ish AU i woul dbe veryy happy. i can't see this as capcom screwing gamecube fans?

So RE 2/3/CVX are rare huh? ^_^

fires up ebay with extra copies

If someone is getting screwed it's the PS2 RE fans. All RE's will be playable on the PS2 except RE Zero. Where da fuck is the port?

I was disappointed with RE0 anyway. Yes it has great pre-rendered graphics, but the gameplay was much worse than REmake. Typically this was the only exclusive RE game GC fans got. Remake on the other hand was a masterpiece.

Yes me too. It wasn't that good. Still finished it though. The cinematics was the best thing about the game :B

Still have REmake sealed.. I'm tempted to open and play it, but there is so many games to play. I can't even get myself to open Ninja Gaiden :P

Anyway, a RE0 port would be nice so both GC and PS2 owners can have the complete collection.

I got Resident Evil 2 and 3 on the Dreamcast way back when for $10 each.

The gamecube ports of Resident Evil 2 and 3 were just criminally expensive.

On an interesting tangent, I saw Marvel vs Capcom 2 for Xbox used today at the Microplay at Square One in Mississauga ON, selling for 80 bucks.

Talk about being gouged at retail. Sheesh.

The packaging is not hawt

"Heh, I feel lucky now that I got a used copy of RE2 N64, it feels like a relic now."

But not as rare. My Toys R Us has a huge stack of them and Perfect Dark for like $5 each.

The Japanese CV games were always better than their American counterparts any way you put it.

Wow... any chance you could net me one? :D

$60+ for CV!

FUCK! I couldve bought a dozen of these at the CC $5 sale! And the one I DID buy I sold off to a gamestop for like $12!

....

FUCK!.....FUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKK

The stores around me seem to have plenty of RE3 and REC:V on GC for $40, but no RE2, which, incidentally, is the only one I'm missing. I'd really like to have the whole series on my GC, but I'm not paying $80 for an aged game on eBay. I really doubt Capcom tried to sabotage the sales of GC versions though, as it just doesn't make any sense to sabotage your own product.

Yeah, someone's bid about $60 for RE3 GC. It's ridiculous.

Makes me kinda wish I had picked it up earlier, but I'll settle for a copy of RE2 for now.

I lucked out at the time that RE2 and RE3 came out on GC Gamestop was running a special of trade in any 2 or 3 Games that werent Sports or Wrestling and you got one of a list of games free, stupid GS though forgot to not include like way cheapo titles

so I think I bought like 4 or 6 5 dollar titles and got RE2 and RE3 was sweet

Okay I was wrong about the when...but the point still stands...CAPCOM U.S.A. had ways around full-priced un-enhanced ports.

It's only the inclusion of an easy mode. There isn't anything else is there? US gets the clean movies; that is no subtitles.

From the FAQs on GF, US RE2 & 3 are harder than the JP verisons. US RE2 has more zombies and placed closer to the player to make the difficulty harder. About the only main difference I know of.

The Dreamcast movies are full screen. So do these movies show more than the letterbox movies on the other systems or is it cropped? FAQs mention the the GC movies are the cleanest.

Looks like the Japanese counterpart to the Pure Evil pack is a much better package. Dot50Cal from The Horror Is Alive received his and posted some snaps:

Biohazard comes with a free memory card, as well as two Biohazard themed memory card stickers. It also has a watch poster.

Biohazard Zero also comes with a memory card and memory card stickers (Zero themed).

For the money its a damn fine deal!

Biohazard
Biohazard Zero
2X Memory Cards
Biohazard 4 Trial Edition

I think I'll get BioHazard Double Feature if not for the packaging itself. It's not that expensive. I still have the BioHazard Collector's Box which should have been priced a bit cheaper.

Is the GC version of CV a port of the DC or PS2 version? I read at least one review that claims it's a port of the PS2 version, making it a port of a port. Any truth to that?
