Truth be told, Capcom did make my favorite 2D fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, which is perhaps the greatest 2D fighter of all time ..

BUT!

Pound-for-pound, between all of the games SNK has done and Capcom has done, from Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Art of fighting, every KOF iteration, and don't forget Garou Mark of the Wolves, Samurai Shodown Series, Last Blade 1 and 2 ...

And you can see that SNK is the easy winner.

Capcom has what, Street Fighter and Darkstalkers ?

Art of Fighting, huh?

SNK always had the experimental edge and the vision to keep the medium going forward in the golden age of fighting games. The design footprint from that era can still be seen on their recent releases.

AOF 2 had a great Versus, AOF 3 is a decent game with some of the best graphics of that era. But what can I say, some people don't vibe with the "juggle" system. 🤷

I played AOF1-2 a bunch in Korean arcades. They just aren't something I'd use on a list to counter legacy. Now I want to play some Blandia.

It's Capcom easily, but SNK has plenty of bangers. Samurai Shodown II and IV, Garou, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting III, some KOF titles, etc.

For me Vampire Savior, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Street Fighter III: Second Impact, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future are Capcom's greatest hits. (Capcom also made Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness and Mega Man: Power Battle.)

For me SNK's greatest hits are Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, The King of Fighters '98: Final Edition, The King of Fighters 2000, and The Last Blade. I prefer their rosters and their move sets.

P.S. It's a shame SNK can't do proper collections with filters and options like Capcom. The versus titles on both sides are very mid and dumb down a lot in my opinion.

Capcom had the cash to get decent licenses, their VS seires with Marvel and X-men really pushed them a head. As popular as Stree Fighter 2 was, Marvel games opened up their casual audience and just built on the SF2 success. Capcom VS Snk is one of the best 2D fighters as well.

I do consider Garou Mark of the Wolves to be one of the best 2D and impressive fighters on that hardware generation. SF3 is beaurtiful as well, but on better hardware.

CVS2 for the best of both worlds, but nothing satisfies like red parrying something in 3S.
10 frame standard parries made blindly fishing for them too viable though.

It'll always be SNK for me. Character designs, game play, music etc... Also they took more chances than Capcom with their fighting game systems (probably one of the reasons why they went out of business unfortunately). They were always way more innovative and their sprite work was incredible especially given the hardware they had to work with. Don't get me wrong I like capcom fighters as well but SNK was always my favorite at the end of the day.

I have much respect for Capcom's expansive catalog of quality 2D fighting games. However, SNK gets the nod for me mainly because of Samurai Shodown. This is still my favorite 2D vs. fighting game series.

Capcom. Voting otherwise is some Mexican arcade KOF fan or some shit.

Gotta be delusional to vote for SNK lol.

I want to say SNK for the cred.

I always wanted an SNK tattoo but I'm no good at kof and I don't speak spanish. It's pathetic.

I do have a soft spot for the KOF games, the sprites and backgrounds made SF look dated until SFIII, the Alpha games was an improvement though.

Capcom overall made the better games. they rarely made a bad or mediocre one.
SNK's track record is very mixed. from insanely good to pretty bad... it's highly variable.

SNK imo has the higher peaks, but also the lower lows compared to Capcom.

Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution is irredeemable

Vampire Savior is the best game out of either company but in retrospect id probably give the edge to SNK despite primarily being a Capcom guy growing up. SNK was just more advanced in terms of mechanics and had less crippling balance issues although they certainly had their share.

I like SNK, but their characters aren't as fun to play as. I always felt like iykyk. There's some players who know KOF gameplay and then there's those (like me), who try to utilize Capcom strategy inside an SNK game. I have to go back to KOF95 to really have fun with it. Those KOF advanced combos were way above my head.

Original Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter III: New Generation, Vampire Hunter 2, Red Earth, Marvel vs. Capcom, Slam Masters, and Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness are all crap.

What's wrong with MvC1? It has the best final boss and some fun combos. I liked the 6 button layout over the 4 button + 2 assist. I'm one of those people who prefer Alpha 2. They all had to start somewhere. SF had some iffy ports. I'd say there's a lot more KOF's to forget. Samurai Showdown is fun for a while, but it isn't something I'd play often. Fighting up to Bison is a lot more enjoyable imo. SNK has a fun layout, but it was never something I could memorize.
