To be fair, there are PLENTY of barriers on the earth that limit humans and are not man-made. Rivers, mountains, deserts, and oceans all shaped humanity far more than folks give credit.

But the sentiment is just.

There’s work to simulate it in VR.

Oh you can do it right now in Google Earth VR. I've been there, in virtual low Earth orbit. It's at least 10% of the full experience. Hopefully the app gets to Quest 2 and standalone headsets become even cheaper.
