WTF?

Bonkers giant mechs. Astroboy. Dante from Devil May Cry. The Japanese obsession with cells (see Parasite Eve and countless others), Borg like lightning bolts.

Another GAF recomendation bomb. :p I've tried to watch it twice, first when it came out, then with friends. Didn't make it halfway through both times. :lol

Got halfway through and was totally lost, thing was almost unwatchable. However, one bottle of vodka later, problem solved. Finished it and don't remember a damn thing.

that 5 mins when Casshern went all Dynasty Warriors on that army of robots was cool. The rest of the movie was boring.

I saw this last week and didn't and still don't know whether or not I like it. It was cool, but the story could've been conveyed better. It was a confusing in it's attempts to have plot twists.

Considering it was the directors first project I think it turned out great. Cant wait to see what he does next...

It's really beautiful. Plot is...eh. But a gorgeous film. I'm a huge art slut.

My thoughts exactly. The film IS quite convoluted, and some of the action scenes are pretty confusing, but I think the art direction and the fighting barely equals it out.

From what I saw of Casshern it blew donkey balls. Crappy action with weird and stupid mech stuff (does everything in Japan have to be mech related?) and bad acting. If you want to see a decent recent Japanese movie check out Battle Royale.

I was told the trailer is massively misleading - it's supposed to be a a massive story/romance, with minimal action.

I ordered it anyway, so I'll get to love it/slag it off with the rest of you in a week or two.

Also, Fighter in the Wind (korean) is supposedly very good and action packed with some very creative fights, and for the few of you who have not seen it yet, Old Boy is shockingly, painfully awesome. Very dark, very funny, very twisted and clever.

I've heard great things about 2046. Any of you guys seen it?

I couldn't finish the whole movie in one sitting, either. I watched the first half and turned it off. A few days later I forced myself to finish the movie, but after a few minutes in, I decided it might be best to just fast-forward to the end. It wasn't getting any better and these people obviously played too much Final Fantasy.

"Mess" is the word I would use to describe it. A big disappointment since the promo art was very nice.

Eh, I think a Final Fantasy comparison is pretty stupid. The movie is based on the anime Casshan, but it mixes in a message that I think is relevant today with war. You could technically say any sci-fi movie borrows from Final Fantasy in this day and age, but in reality it's Final Fantasy that has borrowed heavily from sci-fi.

I loved the movie, it's slow and not what people expected, but I don't believe that makes it bad. The overall message is what is important in a movie like Casshern, I think it gets the job done. The acting is pretty damn good, especially for such a huge cast.

If this had been a pure action flick, then people would still complain. Honestly, I don't think Casshern would have worked as an action flick, because there is far too much story to tell. In reality, the movie is NOT long enough. It would have made a really good TV show if the budget was there, but it's not. This movie was made on 5 million dollars.

Casshern as an overall experience in great. I can't get over how fucking amazing the soundtrack is. Direction is superb and I can't wait for Kiriya's next project.

Yeah, the soundtrack is incredible. I always recomend that people go into Casshern expecting nothing but visuals and a great score, and to let anything else come as a surprise. I think the expectation of fast hitting heavy action scenes really hurts people's reception of the film. It's uber slow, like a large measure of japanese cinema in general. Personally, I dig that. If you can honestly list Casshern as one of the worst movies ever, you need to watch more movies.

Eh... I wasn't implying that the movie somehow ripped off FF. Basically, the movie at times reminded me of past FF titles with it’s visuals and drama. Nothing more, nothing less.
