Really liked it, haven't watched an anime in ages.

What is considered good lately? One Punch Man? Attack on Titan S2?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Season 2 of this show was in production long before Season 1 went up on Netflix. It was actually announced to come in two parts: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2017/02/08/netflix-announces-castlevania-animated-series

If this is a hit worth another renewal, I imagine they move on to Castlevania 1.

Yeah I figure Castlevania and Simon Belmont are then into Castlevania 2 as
Simon must gather the pieces of Dracula's body to stop the curse from killing him
. Then they follow it up with Richter and Rondo of Blood as
Shaft resurrects Dracula.
and of course follow it up with Symphony of the Night. Or at leas that's the dream.

Side note that the church construct annoyed me as it was like they tried to put a modern day idea of a French midieval Catholic church in the middle of 16th century Romania.

None of that shit made sense.

I thought it was great for what was pretty much a four episode introduction. Hyped to see what they can do with an expanded 2nd season. Spoke to a friend earlier tonight who had no previous knowledge or interaction with the Castlevania franchise, and he absolutely loved it.

Just watched it, its a really great show! hopefully season 2 comes soon enough.

Only scene that did not make much sense to me was on the episode 3, where
Trevor just make a pretty speech and suddenly everyone just kill the priest, that was a bit forced imo

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Looks like opinions are all over the place. So I'll syn mind up by saying that I was hanging with a couple friends and put this on having no idea what it was and expecting it to be terrible to passable. Then we didn't stop watching until the last credits rolled. Maybe it was all of our collective affection of Gothic stuff and complete lack of knowledge of Castlevania but we really enjoyed it even it was obviously basically a prologue.

I wish this show was better than it is. I found it to be really rough.

The last episode had a bit of promise but I don't know if I'd be interested in watching further.

Demon in the church totally should have been the grim reaper instead. Would have made the kiss line better.

Loved this show. The only bad thing about it for me is that it was only 4 episodes long. Hopefully the next line of episodes are longer as well. Netflix has been doing awesome for me. Blame!, Knights of Sidonia, and now this. Great stuff.

Same for the love of Gothic stuff. The aesthetic was fantastic and I really liked that the show didn't shy away from brutality. Looking forward to S2 and beyond, fingers crossed. Only thing that pissed me off was
no appearances from Dracula after E1 but that fits with the games pretty much too so I can't complain

For some reason I was envisioning a saturday morning cartoon when this was announced, not a dark and gritty anime.

Dark and gritty anime makes a lot more sense, and I like the first episode, but I still want to see what a saturday morning cartoon version would look like.

We literally got a Simon Belmont and a view of Castlevania's world in a literal Saturday morning cartoon 20 ears ago with Captain N. And it wasnt pretty.

It was ok, art isn't great. Animation. Is poor and the ugly shadows on teeth and such that looks like a quick photoshop.

Wish the scenery looked better, overall this needed to look better to draw me in a bit.

Is Netflix promoting this show for anyone of you? I had to type the name of the series to find it. My Netflix didnt show it as a Spotlight or under New Releases, Trending, etc.

Normally when a new original Netflix series is uploaded they always promote it! I didnt expect a big SPOTLIGHT (the first thing they show upon logging in) because Stranger Things this is not, but at least I didnt expect to have to type the name of the show in the ay of its release.

It was the first thing I saw when I booted up Netflix on Thursday night / Friday morning.

Just dove into this last night in one big go and I have to say I could not stop grinning. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the first season and cannot wait for more. I have limited exposure to Castlevania only beating Portrait of Ruin, though I bought Symphony of the Night recently, anyways this just pulled me right in and clicked within seconds.

From the animation, good voice acting (well except the forced Translyanian accent some actors eschewed), to the sheer brutality of the series from both a language and gore factor it's nice to see an adaption no hold back in that department, the characters and story were excellent.

Cannot wait from season two and if Adi Shankar is doing an AC anime next colour me very intrigued.

The scene with the priest in episode 3/4 and Trevor was confusing. Why would the priest call him over to exonerate him? What was the favor he wanted?

I think the favor was to stop helping the speakers and leave quietly, because he knew at that point that they couldn't stop him in an actual fight.

Having never played a castlevania, I found the show interesting. Great build up for the next season. I I shed the 4 episodes in one sitting. Good stuff Netflix.

This was a really pleasant surprise.

I'd totally play a Castlevania 3 remake where the characters are based on their counterparts in this show. Just saying.

I thought the backgrounds were well painted, don't see any problems there. Unless you mean they weren't interesting or creative enough, which is something more subjective so I can't argue.

Thought it was great but criminally short. Just when it was about to get going it ended.

A surprising lack of action as well, although what was there was pretty good especially the last bit of the final episode. This is a great foundation.

I still don't think 8 episodes is gonna be enough when they only clock in at like 22 minutes, but since it feels like this only just got announced a very short time ago maybe they'll put out more episodes in a reasonable time.

Konami (lol) is dropping the ball by not having a Castlevania /anything/ available in any modern console. Even a CV3 NES Port would be selling hotcakes.

Didn't realise that it had to be Japanese to be anime.

I thought it was more of a style/genre...there's no shame in calling it anime.

To be fair... Essentially all animation goes through South Korea and anyways, both Western and Eastern... So anyone picking a fight about "anime" from that stand point is mostly fighting a semantics battle.

Why do people keep calling this anime? This is completely not anime.

Because we never get adult oriented animation in this nature in the West and the aesthetic is close enough to a lot of anime to fool those who don't know any better.

Also they shouldn't skip straight to Rondo of Blood. After Trevor they should go to Simon and then to Richter.

Not entirely. Where is produced and conceived is pretty important creatively.

Great series, watched it last night. Only complaint is that is was over so quick.

Any word if the next season will have more episodes? Wasn't sure if the short season was on purpose or they were playing it safe to see how it performed.

I definitely enjoyed it. I am looking forward to more. This was really just an introduction.

I am surprised at some of the reactions though. I think It's one of the best videogame adaptations since SF2.

I thought Richard Armitage was fantastic as Trevor, really natural and charasmatic, and the way he reacts to situations makes him an oddly relatable vampire hunter.

"Never thought I would have to climb up a shit-pipe to get some breakfast..."

Also I appreciate the show keeping Dracula's dialogue every bit as flowery as the games.

lol, there's a production issue in episode 3, at 18:45. Trevor and a priest are talking, and there's a point when the priest is talking, but Trevor's mouth is being animated, lol.

So based on that screenplay that Ellis wrote about goat fucking from yesteryear, is this the same script all the way back then.

I actually think the length was alright, I mean sure I'd want more but it's pretty well paced, I'd say it could cut the bar fight a bit shorter in ep 2 but whatever
