CBO: New health bill reduces deficit even less. Just as many uninsured.

So they made it worse. Lol

The score by the Congressional Budget Office projects federal deficits would be lowered by $150 billion over 10 years but still projects that 24 million more Americans would be uninsured by 2026 than under the Affordable Care Act. The analysis comes as House Republicans continue making changes to try to line up enough votes to pass the bill.

The story is still being updated, but it is hilarious that they somehow made it worse.

According to the CBO’s projections, a set of amendments that House GOP leaders agreed to support Monday night would more than halve the amount by which the bill would reduce the federal deficit. The original version of the American Health Care Act, as the bill is called, would have curbed the deficit by an estimated $337 billion by 2026, while the latest changes would result in $150 billion in savings during that time.

The fresh analysis suggests that the amendments would not affect the number of Americans who would be uninsured if the bill were to become law. Nor would the amendments make much difference to the cost of health plans.

The new forecast does not take into account any of the ideas for tipping federal health-care policy even further in directions favored by conservatives — ideas being advanced by members of the House Freedom Caucus who are rebelling against the bill.

So they made it worse. Lol

Which is quite the accomplishment because the first was actually worse than a repeal with no replacement option. Going back to 2007 is better than either of these two versions of the AHCA.

What they're doing to the bill right now to get it through the HFC will somehow make it even worse and it won't even get a chance to be scored.

What a joke.

No Mandate, No Healthcare.

Get used to it Republicans. You can't save healthcare for 24 million people and cut taxes on the rich at the same time without a mandate.

You can. It's called single payer.

There's a reason why the US spends twice as much as any other developed country on healthcare, as a share of GDP

This is a remarkable fusion of malice and incompetence on display. Sums up the entire current administration and Congress, really.

I can't read the full article right now, but where did that ~$190 billion go if this revision isn't covering more people or lowering costs?

So the only thing Republicans are good at is removing regulations?. As far as I know that's all they've really done. Its like they can't come up with anything good and now they don't have the Dems that make laws to piggyback off of.

moved up tax cuts for the rich

The changes would be less helpful to the deficit because they would make it easier for Americans to deduct the cost of medical care from their income taxes and would move forward by a year the repeal of several taxes that help pay for the ACA, including taxes on insurers, hospitals, high-income adults and tanning beds.

Republicans want it both ways. They want to cover pre existing conditions which is incredible popular but significantly reduce premium credit help. You can't lower premiums by doing those two things.
