White smoke emerges as a new pope is elected

People surprised by the Pope calling for unity and action on climate change? Taking action on climate change has been preached for over three decades by this point. That is basically business as usual.

He's not conservative. He was picked to keep Trump from having a monopoly on power in the US. That's why the voting happened so fast.
It might mean more people go Orthodox. That sect seems to be growing.
...

Yeah i was mesmerized by Orthodoxy for some time and seeing how progressive the Catholic branch of Christianity is becoming i might consider converting to the Polish Orthodox Church.

And orthodoxy is not a sect, it's a branch.

So I watched the new Popes speech, and unless I missed something the climate and social justice wasn't mentioned once. Unless somebody objects to calling for dialog amongst Christians, peace and justice on earth, caring for the sick, and other things of that nature.

Editorializing from the mainstream media!? Really!

Ugh… here we go. These "mental delusions" are a huge part of human history and were acknowledged by people much smarter than you.

they had the excuse of science not yet closing enough gaps in knowledge... you don't.
the god of the gaps is running out of gaps, and people are running out of excuses to believe clearly made up nonsense.

this isn't even about believing there could be something like a god, this is about specifically following 1 holy text among hundreds, that also has been debunked in many aspects. it's a delusional way to think

Wasn't. As I said, he is a moderate one. Actually, got a good amount of votes from conservatives cardials.

That would make most things in the human mind a mental delusion via perceptions more often than not. The fact that people act holier than thou and carry an air of superiority over what they label "cults," is a narcissistic one.

Then that would in turn translate to a crazy thing about all of this, is that the brain named itself. And the brain then came up with the psychology delusion to learn more about itself in attempt to "fill in the gaps."

You are not in as much control of your mind like you think you are, no matter the perceived focus.

I am fully aware of that... many are not. that doesn't change the fact that religion is just either delusion due to indoctrination or self-delusion, and there's no way to rationalize it.

it is in fact religious people that almost depend on personal experiences in order to rationalize their beliefs. I specifically don't rely on personal experiences to decide whar I believe in or not. there's a reason science discards personal accounts without repeatable evidence, specifically because you can not trust your own mind.

Newton knew more than you, so did Einstein. So did Adler and Jung. Yet they didn't dismiss the concept as delusion. There is a valid suggestion that our psychology craves for divine guidance, which is why EVERY single human civilisation in history had their version of it. You'd do well to show a bit more respect for it and not just repeat redundant phrases you heard from some idiots like Dawkins.

Disappointing and gay. I thought it would be white smoke blasting from a smoke machine for an awesome rock and roll intro and mystery walk in.

Like WWF style.

Trump: Thanks to me and my amazing trade deals, the best trade deals, I've got us an American Pope! How many other countries leaders can get you a Pope? None of them, but me, I've got you an American Pope.

What pisses me off young catholics never needed role models so much and they now have another woke pope. It's ridiculous.

Telling people to love each other and take care of the earth is woke?

I ain't pretty that's what the guy this guys supposed to answer to also wants. Maybe those young catholics could actually read his words and that can be their mentor too.

God doesn't care about your gaps. Never has. Gaps are for people unsatisfied with what knowledge they've already acquired.

I'm genuinely shocked they elected a native-born United States American as pope. I was certain that the Europeans (who still make up the bulk of the College of Cardinals) would try to regain power after having the "first Latin American Pope".

Alas, I'm content remaining a liturgical Missouri Synod Lutheran (though my current favorite Bible is a RSV-2nd Catholic Edition).

This event will trigger the End Times, I'm sure of it.
Just look at any book of prophecy.

I just thought of something. since the new Pope was born in Chicago, if he says that Chicago deep dish is the best pizza, how would the Italians react?

Seems like another activist moron like the last one. But whatever, I am not a catholic, so... it doesn't matter what I think. I sure as hell won't become one with their recent choices in popes.

Catholic social teaching is a pretty important part of the catholic ethical life for centuries (?), the idea that it's woke now to talk about labor rights, or the environment, etc. is so fucking stupid. Popes have spoken on these types of issues since the 1800's. But it's not surprising if this type of commentary is not coming from catholics.

They missed the opportunity to do an American Idol style reality show to choose the pope. "Vatican's Next Pope" or something.

Religion is perfectly rational. Death is scary and coming to terms with your own mortality is something that makes us uniquely human. You might disagree with whatever conclusions someone has, but that's the gist of it.

Personally, I find it very unappealing when people look down at religion like they're above it, but I'm no fan of hard core religious types either.

Sounds like the new pope might be same as the old one. Too bad

Loving the MAGA meltdowns over this. Caring for the poor and sick is woke!

Not to worry, though. They'll have moved on to being furious about something else in a couple days.

Caritas, unitas, veritas! A mathematician Pontiff from Chicago. Speaks 6 languages, by all accounts a good man. Viva el Papa!

Meh, i wanted that black super conservative guy to win just to see wokes crying in anguish, imagine the lulz :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

How conservative is the new dude?

His introduction at St. Peter's Basilica emphasized unity, social justice, and climate action.

The state of gaslighting in 2025.
This is the state of gaslighting in 2025 but not in the way I think you meant lol.

It was a joke about how overused and misused the term gaslighting has become. "The pope is gaslighting me" is inherently silly and yet we're going to have people say it.

Incorrectly reporting what he said isn't gaslighting either.
